The Corinthian church was apparently unruly and badly behaved at that time, so they needed a word like that. Goes to show that God certainly does give a strong word in season when it is needed, but it doesn't necessarily mean every word is needed by everyone at all times. For example we wouldn't hammer down a word like that and direct it to a person or group who are not engaged in backbiting, debates and strifes, fornication and lasciviousness etc, otherwise it would disquiet and discourage those who are walking well after the Lord. As long as we are keeping things in balance and avoid overemphasizing one aspect of the word or character of God over another. Pendulums have a way of swinging first one way, then another in an equal and opposite direction...the hard part is keeping it steady and immoveable in the middle. He the Lord changeth not. I have mixed feelings about this. I do agree that one message after another that is nothing but judgment is not good, and I also believe that one message after another that is nothing but the love of Jesus is not good. I don't think it is wise to avoid preaching hard messages to a church that just happens to appear good at the time. You shouldn't wait till everyone falls into sin to preach against sin. In addition to that, there could be secret sins nobody is aware of. The best thing is to be in tune with God, and let him lead you in what to preach, but if you don't feel God has led you to a particular subject, we are told to preach the whole counsel of the Word of god.
READ you very last sentence . Its a long one , BUT ITS SPOT ON RIGHT . WE simply must do as the SPIRIT LEADS . I often am led to encourage to praise and to warn . YOU SPOT ON RIGHT and RIGHT ON THE MARK THAT ONE IS . I said the same In my statement . The one thing we cannot do , IS BEGIN to over think what we should do or say . JUST LET THE SPIRIT DO THE LEADING and feast often and daily ON that bible . NOW on that note , ITS TIME TO PRAISE THE LORD AGAIN .

Pendulums have a way of swinging first one way, then another in an equal and opposite direction...the hard part is keeping it steady and immoveable in the middle. He the Lord changeth not. Remebrance of day one . OH what a beauty . It don't matter how much I hear encouragement or grave warnings , I Just love it all . It just continuously keeps me sharp . OH let us rejoice in the LORD and in the LORD let us rejoice . For it is not grievous for me to write these things to you , it is needful to you . OH paul knew what was best for the church . Continual reminders both grave and encouraging always beholding both the severity and goodness of GOD . Put those hands up watchful . PUT THEM UP . AND PRAISE the HOLY LORD .
One thing I have noticed is few people are perfectly balanced. Some tend to spend more time on messages of warning and judgment, while others spend more time on messages about the love of God and grace. That is another reason why we need each other. I feel like God designed it that way, depending on our individual calling.

For the most part, whenever I was preaching on a regular basis anywhere, I would feel led to a certain message each week. A lot of the time, I would intend to be on one subject, and then would feel like I needed to change it. I believe the Lord will give us the message to speak.

Its just a matter of balance....the whole counsel of God as Butero said, amen. We always endeavour to be led by the Spirit, but there are times when we just may not know what spirit we are of, hence we need to test ourselves and each other. The Lord does more than just going around rebuking people.....He rebukes when it is needed, not when it is not. He corrects when it is needed, not when it is not. I'm sure He wouldn't lead anyone to speak that way (2 Cor. 12-13) to those who are running well and are even suffering for His sake....the Lord is a God of comfort, encouragement and edification as well as rebuking, correcting, admonishing, etc. We do need to be careful we don't tarnish His image by overemphasizing any one aspect over another. That's all I'm trying to say, and wasn't anticipating disagreement over that. We can consider it an exhortation or reminder if that is appropriate. I am not sure how everyone thinks of the word exhort in the bible, not sure if what we are thinking is only according to today's more limited usage, since biblically it involves a range of things, and not only exhorting per se. www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexicon/lexicon.cfm?Strongs=G3870&t=NIV Looking at one source, today's dictionary definition is this: "an address or communication emphatically urging someone to do something"....whereas biblically it is the Greek word parakaleo and involves coming alongside in order to entreat, beseech, comfort, encourage, as well as to actually exhort. In other words, for example where it says in the bible to exhort one another daily is talking about the whole range of how God would speak to His children, it is not only exhorting by today's definition. Thanks be to God, because I never used to know that. To me, understanding that brings it into better balance, as well as putting a bit of a kinder face on things, if that's the right word. The Lord is not a harsh taskmaster, but neither is He some kind of toothless teddy bear that winks at sin...He is a lot of things wrapped up in one, so that is why I wanted to mention the need for balance. Praise His wonderful name for leading us into all truth.

When it comes to preachers, this is what they are told.
I CHARGE thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom: Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of and evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. 2 Timothy 4:1-5

Amen. And even then you wouldn't be aware most of the time how the Lord is ministering to each soul individually. The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps, or words in the case of preaching.

It’s important to encourage each other in the Lord and not just give compliments. The English word encourage is actually supposed to mean to fill with courage. That was the original idea of the word. It was to motivate someone to build up their courage.
