I never looked at it like that. If you can get it put in to where it replaces your electric bill, and pay monthly, you may not be any worse off. I need to look into that.
Yes, it's worth it for the sake of health. I'd rather live completely off grid. But it's better than nothing.
Our house came with a microwave, but I haven't used it but maybe a dozen times (if that) since we moved here. I keep it unplugged. I have covers over electronics like the wifi router and cordless phone, etc, that block most of the radiation they give off. There are ways to cut down on the "dirty electricity" in your house as well. I have cooked with a microwave over as long as I can remember. I don't use it for everything, but will make microwave popcorn, scrambled eggs, a baked potato, tv dinners, and many other things. What is the danger if they are used properly?

Is the food cooked in a microwave dangerous? its a form of radiation that cooks it. i have never read anything conclusive that it is but there are some ways it can be for sure... like if you use plastic containers... you ever see them melt in the bottom in a microwave? plastic is a petroleum product. petroleum dont do so well in the human body when ingested. pretty sure it causes cancer.

That is something that never occurred to me, what you cook on in a microwave oven.

That is something that never occurred to me, what you cook on in a microwave oven. if i do use a microwave i use a stoneware plate or something labeled microwave safe. also try not to use something that says made in china as china likes to use lead in lots of stuff, including finishes and paint. they say they have stopped but they persecute christians so you know who their father is... the one who lies.

What is the official reason for going to the smart meter, and what kind of harm do these meters do to those that have them?

Their reason is convenience, not having to hire meter readers, so less cost for them (and people lose jobs, of course). But it is a means of spying on our energy usage... taking data on what appliances we use, and how much energy we consume. It is a health hazard as the radiation output is much much higher and that radiation is sent through all the wiring and outlets of your home. It sends thousands of power surges a day to collect data ... which is a fire hazard and causes damage to appliances. No one should be allowed to force this on anyone. Of course, they have the upper hand... they can just cut your power off if you refuse... that is, if you didn't succeed in getting some sort of exemption or opt-out. Still, they will most likely charge a fee every month if you choose to keep an analog meter.

Still, they will most likely charge a fee every month if you choose to keep an analog meter. If this creates a serious health risk, they shouldn't be able to force it on us, but I do understand the reason they are doing it and charging more for those who are able and choose to opt out. Clearly, this would cut their cost by eliminating jobs. You mentioned about them spying on energy usage. I have noticed we do get monthly statements telling us how our energy usage compares with that of our neighbors. I don't mean they say this house is using x amount and that house x amount. They just tell us how we are doing on average.
The thing is, we never had to sign anything for the meter, or give anyone permission to install it. the guy just showed up one day and said he works for the power company and they are changing all the meters to smart meters. He wanted to let me know he would be around the back of the house doing that. This was over a year ago at least. My only concern at the time is that I didn't want them to be including our home in one of those programs where they cut our power off during critical times of high usage. I would rather pay more not to be part of that program.

Makes one wonder about the sky rocketing cancer rates... radiation levels in everything we use, 5G towers .... bad water ... just saying....
