Coffee is undoubtedly the best drink ever but it is addictive and against the Law at LEV.10:9. Fortunately, at ACTS.15:19-29, God has liberated Gentile Christians from such non-essential or burdensome laws, eg they can remain uncircumsized, eat non-kosher foods and drink non-kosher coffee or tea. . IN ESSENTIALS UNITY, IN NON-ESSENTIALS LIBERTY, IN ALL THINGS JESUS CHRIST.

Coffee isn't mentioned in scripture to my knowledge.
. DEUT.29:5-6 (NKJV) = And I have led you forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes have not worn out on you, and your sandals have not worn out on your feet. 6 You have not eaten bread, nor have you drunk wine or similar drink, that you may know that I am the Lord your God. . 1PETER.2:4-5 = Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. . . Coffee and tea are also intoxicating drinks, similar to wine, alcohol, colas, cocaine, etc.

It is a stimulant, and it won't make you drunk, so I see no similarity. Besides that, the scripture was only speaking of those performing the duties of priest, not the common person. The average person was free to drink wine. It is drunkenness that is sinful.

If we go by that verse in Deuteronomy, we should stop eating bread too...

Heroin, cocaine, marijuana and pedophilia are also not mentioned in the Bible. . Peace.

Now you are speaking of things not mentioned in scripture. I can make a case all mind altering drugs are sorcery and pedophilia, outside of a lawful marriage are fornication. If anyone wishes to tackle things they perceive are wrong not in the Bible, that is for another thread.

We have a thread going in another section that was dealing with a great tasting, non alcoholic drink, and it was not designed to be a serious doctrinal discussion on matters like this. Still, we did have someone bring up the issue of coffee and tea, and suggested it was not allowed under the law of Moses, and the scripture verse he used was Leviticus 10:9
Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations.
My position is that this commandment was only for the Levitical Priests when they were fulfilling their duties in the tabernacle, and was only speaking of wine and alcoholic beverages. It has nothing to do with stimulants like caffeine, and doesn't apply to anyone but the people specifically mentioned. I am taking the discussion on this issue and moving it here.

If God liberated us from the law, why is this even an issue?

If God liberated us from the law, why is this even an issue? The only reason this is an issue to me is because there are things in the law of Moses that are dealing directly with God's standard of holiness, like all but one of the 10 commandments, and things like communication with the dead. It appears that this was intended to use something that wasn't valid as a springboard to ignore the entire Old Testament. If we are going to have that discussion, it doesn't belong in the recipe section.

Anyone who reads the Bible with a fair eye can get a good sense of how much OT material applies to us. It isn’t that hard. People seem to enjoy making mountains out of mole hills.

You would think so, but there was a woman I was talking to a few months back at WCF that believed that those commandments mentioned in Acts were the only things any gentile Christian needed to be concerned with. That shows you how far out some people can go in misunderstanding scripture. She could rob someone, but she better not eat something strangled.

But Paul said thieves won’t inherit the kingdom of God...? What is wrong with people?

I have coffee every morning, with a little sugar and here lately a splash of white chocolate creamer. As I drink this coffee I pray and read and get into God presence. If it is wrong He has not told me about it yet. Doc said two cups max. dont tell him but every so often I have a third cup. And I do love me some sweet tea. I used to be able to drink a gallon after work but with in the past several years I have noticed it keeps me up and I do not sleep so well at night as is so I had to limit myself to two glasses in the evening. i could probably do three but i do not need to push it.
Lev 10:9 Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations:
Strong drink is whiskey or grain alcohol. something like that. Something that is strong alcohol, stronger than wine. H7941 שֵׁכָר shêkâr shay-kawr' From H7937; an intoxicant, that is, intensely alcoholic liquor: - strong drink, + drunkard, strong wine. Total KJV occurrences: 23
every instance of strong drink I can find is speaking to alcohol. Caffeine can give you some pep but you do not get intoxicated or get inebriated. You do not hear about people getting in a car wreck because they were sipping on some medium roast arabica fresh brew. If you get pulled over cops dont ask how many espressos have you had this evening? Also coffee does not ruin your life from drinking it. Now having said that coffee can be abused just like pep pills. If you are drinking coffee in an abusive manner then you should consider not drinking it. Its probably not good to be drinking a pot or two a day. And also caffeine effects people different. some people drink it and nitey night.

And also caffeine effects people different. some people drink it and nitey night. I probably drink about 20 to 30 ounces of black coffee a day. It doesn't keep me up. I can drink coffee right before bed and no issues. It is funny, because hot tea will give me more of a boost than coffee will, but I do put sugar in my tea. I have never been intoxicated on coffee or tea. I have never been drunk on wine either, but I rarely drink it, and am so conscious of the scriptures that warn against being drunk, I only drink a little with food when I have it, and the last time I had even a small amount was more than 2 years ago. I do know what it feels like to get a buzz on vodka, from a one time experience a long time ago. I just wanted to taste it, because I would see people put it in orange juice, and I wanted to know what it really tasted like, so I poured a little in the bottom of a juice glass and drank it straight down. Had I not tried one extra sip like that, I would have been okay, but I felt nothing, so I thought what the heck, and it hit all at once. I wasn't exactly drunk, but just didn't feel right. I was in the process of cooking chicken, and it made that a bit of a challenge. I think I was pretty much back to myself in about an hour or so, once I got some food on my stomach. I know never to do that again. Anyway, there is no comparison between caffeine and alcohol.

that is funny. keep in mind i have drank in excess. not any time recently tho. aside from the alcohol in cough syrup i have not had any alcohol in 3 or 4 years or so. maybe more? I do not know for sure. But i remember it was on fathers day and i had two beers.
sugar does increase the effect of caffeine.
as far as no comparison goes think about this... you can run a gas engine on some grain alky, caffeine wont even spark. Alcohol or rather, ethyl alcohol is way different in chemistry. Vodka is just weak grain alcohol.
