We are called to strive for perfection, but it is always in conjunction to us surrendering ourselves to his salvation.
The bible says this:
Jas 4:7 (7) Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
It is a type of striving were we are working in conjunction with Christ, and not in ourselves.
It is not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit says the Lord.

I’m not disagreeing that love and competition are incompatible. I am glad that we can agree on this. And to excel is a personal thing, but of course you can stir up others to excel as well. We really have to take heed to this next scripture: Jer 17:9 (9) The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? Our hearts can deceive us. And the bible says that he who exalts himself shall be abased, but he who humbles himself, shall be exalted. God just wants us to be who we are in Christ, and not someone else.

And if something is wrong at point Z, it is also wrong at point A, just at point A, it is not as recognizable.
It is easy to camouflage things.

God is a good God, let us do all to the glory of God.
Let love reign, just be yourself in Christ, and be a light to the people of this world, and let us also be a light to each other.
God is good.
Here is part of the emulations definition again, which I find is a good definition:
(Webster's dictionary)
(1. An ardor kindled by the praise-worthy examples of others, inciting to imitate them, or to equal or excel them. A noble emulation heats your breast.
2. Contest; contention; strife; competition; rivalry accompanied with a desire of depressing another. Such factious emulations shall arise.)
The 1rst definition is a good type of emulation, and the 2nd is a bad type which I never denied this.
One word that intrigued me is the word ardor.
(Webster's dictionary)
(Ardor 'ARDOR, n. [L.] 1. Heat, in a literal sense; as, the ardor of the sun's rays. 2. Warmth, or heat, applied to the passions and affections; eagerness; as, he pursues study with ardor; they fought with ardor. Milton uses the word for person or spirit bright and effulgent, but by an unusual license.)

Joh 6:28-29 (28) Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? (29) Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
See it is never doing then believing, but rather it is believe, then entering in the works of Christ, which will result in doing.
Many in the Christian world do not truly understand what true faith is, the bible says that faith without works is dead being alone.
If works is not resulting from your faith, in some manner or form, it is not true faith.
And many in the Christian world do not have a proper understanding of what resting in Christ is.
When you rest in his salvation, you cease from your own self effort works, you cease from trying to save yourself, but also you start entering into the works of Christ.
Resting in Christ's salvation does not mean doing nothing, and if you claim to be resting in Christ's salvation and it results in doing nothing, then are you truly resting in Christ's salvation, because Christ's salvation brings a change.
Now in saying this, does the Holy Spirit force us to obey him? No, God will stir us up to pray, he will stir us up to read, and he also uses the body to stir each other into the things of God, but he won't do it for us, we have to choose to obey.
Even the saying let patience have her perfect work, has big misconceptions to it, in the Christian world, and letting patience having her perfect work in our lives, takes work, and patience is a life style, and God's patience is different than man's patience.

Now can a game or sport, have a purpose to it, and you be playing this or that without there being the spirit of competition?
Absolutely yes, but let us be careful to not allow this competition mindset to be our mindset.
And of course there are some things in all areas of life that can be entered into, either with the competition mindset, or a godly, loving mindset.
But there are some things that are done in the name of competition, that is what it is, that is what it is about.
But Satan is clever, just like he makes this Santa Claus stuff look cute and cuddly, which God does not want us to give heed to fables, he can make the spirit of competition look good and fun, and some will say oh I am better than you, I am number 1, your the loser, but of course this is all done in the name of fun, right???
Or is it the spirit of competition masquerading itself in the name of fun?
I am all for fun, but at what expense, and in what name???
Now at times it is easy to detect the spirit of competition, but not always.
It would be good to know the roots of things, how things came in, how things came into Israel and so forth, we would probably be surprised.
Let us love God more than our likes and dislikes.
Here is a scripture to take heed to:
Pro 27:2 (2) Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.

I used to enjoy being in a bowling league, and would still be doing that if not for the fact I have no free time. I have participated in Fantasy Football for the past several years and never felt like that was sinful, but we all were doing our best to win. When I won two league championships, I was happy to have proven better than the competition, but when I finished next to last, I congratulated the winner. I don't think friendly competition is sinful. I am not sure that you are saying it is either. I am trying to get a feel for what you are meaning.

I can go further, and I am glad that at least some things were reconciled to some degree.
Here is just food for thought, something to ponder on.
Have you noticed what the world calls stars?
There are porn stars, rock stars, sports stars, hollywood stars and so on.
Yet what about say policeman, fireman, doctors and so on?
It seems that there is a huge amount of worship towards the stars and it is rampant, yet towards policeman, fireman, doctors ect, it is not rampant at all.
Now different people worship all kinds of people , but generally speaking, there is a huge amount of idol worship towards the stars.
Is this just a coincidence?
I know that towards a policeman what will be shown in the realm of praise is usually gratitude, and same goes towards a school teacher, a cleaner, a secretary, a fireman, an electrician and the list goes on.
And these jobs actually does add a benefit to people's lives, such as a doctor helping people fix their physical problem, or even some type of trainer that helps people be fit, it helps people be healthy, and fireman put out fires, teachers can help someone learn math, bus drivers provide transportation and so on, all truly beneficial.
But were is there rampant worship? Towards the stars???

Well look at the stars, these stars make me think of the works of the flesh.
Such as fornication, emulations (competition), impersonation as a lifestyle, stirrers of revelry (rock stars).
Are these the real stars that are being glorified or worshiped?

God bless you sister, and I appreciate you.

There’s nothing wrong with showing proper gratitude to good people. How we treat our brother is how we’re treating Jesus.
