O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees; therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down and cast into the fire. I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

Religious activity, like water baptism, is of no profit to you if you haven't first come with a heart of repentance. There are many church goers and many that have been baptized that have never been saved.

And notice PHILLIP confirmed that . The eunach said , What does withhold that I can be baptized . HE didn't just say to a non repentant man , OH all is well , lets go to the water now . HE SAID IF YOU TRULY BELIEVE with your heart that JESUS is the SON of GOD ye may be baptized . AND he said , I BELIEVE . genuine repentance can be seen . Going to the water baptism without it , is a sinner goes down dry but comes up a wet sinner . NO transformation , NO real conversion . And for any and all who came to Christ , FROM the wisdom of men that preach another Christ , YEP its no good . WE GOTTA COME TO CHRIST , because deep deep down we KNOW we wicked sinners that DO NEED a savoir . NOT for an easy life , not for blessings of money or etc , or whatever . Because we have been convicted . LOOK at peters speech and the effect it had , SO powerful , THEY KNEW and they said , OH WHAT MUST WE DO TO BE SAVED . AND THEN the SOLUTOION was given . I DONT SEE ANY TYPES of conversions like these anymore . Very few . very few . very few . IF we coming to antoher JESUS or another gospel , WE WONT BE SAVED and satan KNOWS that . HE allures another JESUS that feeds the flesh . AND THAT AINT NO JESUS .

Baptism, to me, is an outward sign of what has taken place on the inside. It is not a method of salvation. As you said Frienduff, without repentance, and faith in Christ, you go down a sinner, and come up a wet sinner. That is not what John the Baptist, Jesus, or any of the Apostles had in mind.

its my belief we get dunked out of obedience. if you dont get dunked i do not think it keeps you from salvation. we should want to get dunked because it says to.
now as far as baptized with The Holy Ghost, and with fire... every believer should get this.
I am kinda at a loss as to what this thread is really about? warning of wrath? I got saved before i realized wrath was coming. now I do warn others.

It is word for word right out of the King James Bible. It is what John the Baptist was saying to the religious folks that came to his baptism, but whose hearts were not right. In thinking about that, you have to wonder why they were there? Was it because it was the popular and "in" thing to do? The people in Israel were going to John to be baptized, so they wanted to be part of it? Did they have any understanding about what the purpose of baptism was? John clearly didn't think they had repented of their sins, based on how he reacted to them being there. He wanted to see evidence of a heart change before he baptized them, which shows that the act of baptism itself can't save. I do agree with you that baptism is something we should do out of obedience, and a sign to the world that we have been born again. It shows the death of the old man as we go under the water, and the resurrection of the new man when we come up again.
I most definitely think we should seek the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Jesus put great importance on that, but it would be a separate issue from what John the Baptist was speaking of.
