You believe in Jesus? You say you’re following Him? What do you follow Him for? What does He mean to you?
Is He a means to an end? Is He the way to make your dreams come true? Is He a source of prosperity? Do you give Him conditional obedience as long as you’re seeing progress in your career/social life?
Is He an avenue to seek vengeance on people who hurt you? Is He your source of judgment on others?
Is He your ticket to heaven? Is He someone who lets you do your own thing here in this life?
Do you and Jesus “have an understanding” which absolves you of what the Bible requires? Do you and Jesus “have your own thing going” which exempts you from what the rest of us have to do?
Do you see yourself through Jesus’ eyes, or do you see Jesus through your own eyes? Is Jesus here to convenience you? Does He conform to what happens to benefit you? When you discuss doctrine, does it always work out in favor that the Bible says what you want it to say?
Do you like it when people use you? If not, are you sure you’re not using Jesus?

While we can attempt to look at our lives in light of God's Word, I don't think we can truly see ourselves as Jesus does. I like where you are going with this, because people do tend to make the Lord in their image. Have you ever heard someone say they can't believe in a God that would ________________? If it is something they don't like, they choose not to believe. That never made sense to me. God is who He is. God doesn't answer to me. I must answer to him, so I look at God as the Bible says He is.
There are benefits to serving God, the greatest being eternal life, but I believe that by faith, and God wants us to believe Him, so I see nothing wrong with holding to promises in the Bible. I would not quit serving God simply because He doesn't give me what I want. He is not my genie. So while I might believe I can go to God for healing, to meet my needs, to deal with my enemies, etc., if in His wisdom I don't see things working out, I am not quitting the faith.
I have a friend that used to hold a position at WCF and ran her own message board, and she quit serving God because she is angry at him for the death of her son. She is totally backslid. Being angry at God is foolish. If her son was saved, her decision may mean she will never see him again. I hope I would be like Job and say that if God chooses to slay me, I will still trust Him.

Even many Christians in the church do this. The Bible says God is good —> I have my own idea of what’s good and just —> therefore God agrees with me.

Our enemy is able to size us up and take an educated guess on what could make us backslide. That’s what he tried on Job. What is our line in the sand? What is that one thing we won’t tolerate? What an idol we would put above obedience to God? For some it could be a career. For others it might be a child. Others may covet a big famous ministry, and if it doesn’t happen they grow resentful that God won’t use them. We each have our personal idols that must be laid at the cross. When Paul told us to crucify our flesh, he wasn’t joking. We must remember what Hebrews tells us. Anything that can be shaken will be shaken. Anything that can burn in a fire will be burned. Anything we put above God will be dealt with. He isn’t letting us bring our pet idols into heaven. He will search us, try us, and sift us until there are no idols left. And our enemy is all too happy to accommodate!

For another person, it might be something entirely different. In the case of Job, the devil threw everything at him, but Job never quit trusting God. That is why we need to take heed to the warning that when we think we stand, we need to take heed lest we fall.

He is my light. Truth. My song. My Life. My Righteousness. Friend. Helper. Counselor. LORD. The Lover of My Soul. Savior. My Provider. My Hope. My rod and staff. My refuge and strong tower. because of Him, I will not be shaken. He holds me up. My strength. My Deliverer.
in my darkest moment of life, He was there. when no one would have anything to do with me, He was with me. There is none like Him.
He first loved me, and even in spite of me, of who i was. He reached down and cleaned me up.
Because of what He has done, and who He Is I will worship and adore Him forever.
He is my everything. I am unable to count all my blessings that i have In Him.
I think you, PG4Him, just triggered me... lol.

Jesus is the Lord of my life. He is my everything. I am nothing. He has redeemed me with His sacrifice of His body and shed blood on the cross for my sins. I once was lost, but now am found. There is no one like Jesus. He is the Son of the Living God. I can't even fathom the depth of His love for me, I just know that it is greater than I could ever imagine and I don't deserve it. Just like that song that says, His love is deeper than any ocean, higher than any sky....
I just want to serve Him, I want others to know that Jesus loves them! He is truly the Good Shepherd who will go after that one and leave the 99. There is no sin greater than His love.
Jesus is so incomprehensible that I can't do Him justice when I try and describe Him. I just know that He is wonderful, amazing, gracious, faithful, true, compassionate, holy, righteous.... I could go on and on......
I just want to follow Him, and allow Him to do whatever He wants with my life, to be a testimony unto Jesus and to endure to the end!
ALL PRAISE, GLORY, AND HONOR UNTO JESUS! THE GREAT I AM. THE ALPHA AND OMEGA. THE KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS!!! FOREVER! AMEN!
