Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it. Luke 17:33
You might ask, what kind of sense does that make? How does living cause you to die or dying allow you to live? This is speaking of dying to the old unregenerate you. It is speaking of dying to personal ambitions and things we love in the world, so we can live for Christ. In so doing, we gain eternal life. If we save the old man, we die spiritually and lose heaven.

...In so doing, we gain eternal life. If we save the old man, we die spiritually and lose heaven.
"For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live." - Romans 8:13
"And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart." - Galatians 6:9
Those who lose their lives will find it... Because living for the flesh (sin) is a deception, true joy and life is found in Jesus only.
"What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed?
For the end of those things is death." - Romans 6:21
Yet many who are lost love living for the flesh (sin), and pleasures of sin.
And this will cost them their soul if they do not repent.
"But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you.
Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His." - Romans 8:9
"And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires." - Galatians 5:24
"and He died for all, that those who live should live
no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again." - 2 Corinthians 5:15
Then, dying to self... while being hard... still is the best thing to do, and if we do so we will have life.
"...if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live." - Romans 8:13
"Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry." - Colossians 3:5
"I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly..." - John 10:10
Because what is the excuse for living for the flesh?!
It may seem good, but its end is death, and if you analyze carefully... It is NOT good.
"Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like..." - Galatians 5:19-21
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law." - Galatians 5:22-23
"Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin... Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed." - John 8:34+36
"Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap." - Galatians 6:7
Blessings!

Sister Candance said something about dying to our own desires, and I made me think of that scripture. We need to be willing to sacrifice all for the Lord.
