we tend to hear a lot these days how God is just mercy and grace and love... just love, love, love. and people like it. it sounds good. but is this really who God is? let us take a look at God breathed scripture and see.
Deu 32:4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.
well wait a minute. where is the mercy and grace and love here? most of the time we hear about justice and judgment its holding negative connotation. is it not? and what of this judgment of God? I implore you... look this word Judgment up in the hebrew. It means what it says in english, and even more it means a verdict. a judgment. and it can even be used in the sense of a sentence(not a complete thought in words but what a judge gives). this word includes the act itself in the judgment. and here The Book says ALL His way are judgment. you do not have to wait till judgment day... He is already Judging our acts and words now... He does this for Himself and for us. now lets ponder this for a minute... all His ways are judgment. Jesus Christ became our sin, The Book says. a penalty was paid. Justice. the law was fulfilled... You see its because of Gods justice that we have this mercy and grace to us. He judges righteously.
He will not at all acquit the wicked... all His ways are judgment/justice.
For a christian its important to look in the mirror sometimes. its important for us to judge our actions and words compared to what God says is how to live. Its important that we strive to be like Him... to live Holy. so then let us set our heart to calling for justice. Behold God giving one of these judgments:
Isa 59:1 Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: Isa 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. Isa 59:3 For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness. Isa 59:4 None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity. Isa 59:5 They hatch cockatrice' eggs, and weave the spider's web: he that eateth of their eggs dieth, and that which is crushed breaketh out into a viper. Isa 59:6 Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands. Isa 59:7 Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths. Isa 59:8 The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace. Isa 59:9 Therefore is judgment far from us, neither doth justice overtake us: we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in darkness.
let us not walk in darkness... let us call for justice and let us judge righteously if we need to change or stay the course. let us take this serious, because this justice, this judgment is found in ALL His ways. Selah.

we tend to hear a lot these days how God is just mercy and grace and love... just love, love, love. and people like it. it sounds good. but is this really who God is? "He who does not love does not know God, for God is love." - 1 John 4:8
"So Jesus said to him,
Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God." - Luke 18:19
The problem is that many, many people really do not know God.
"Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken,
let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.
For our God is a consuming fire." - Hebrews 12:28-29
"...I cannot endure iniquity..." - Isaiah 1:13
"Love... does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth..." - 1 Corinthians 13:4+6
What many people are believing is in a love that rejoices in iniquity. And that love is not God.
"Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord...
And then I will declare to them,
‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’" - Matthew 7:22-23
"Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness." - 1 John 3:4
"Then Jesus said to them again,
“Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep...
...I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture." - John 10:7+9
"When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door,
and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open for us,’
and He will answer and say to you,
‘I do not know you, where you are from,’
then you will begin to say,
‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’
But He will say,
‘I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.’" - Luke 13:25-27
"And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge,
God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting..." - Romans 1:28
"Whoever abides in Him does not sin.
Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him." - 1 John 3:6

"Whoever abides in Him does not sin.
Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him." - 1 John 3:6God tells us to learn of Him and his ways. and His ways are love and mercy and grace... however... all his ways are judgment. so in his ways of love, there is judgment. In His ways of mercy and grace... there is judgment. and Judgment comes first.
you see people have only pursued God and learned of Him and His ways to a point. and its to the point of whats good to their ear. what serves them and their interest. their wants and desires. but what else does it say about God in Deuteronomy 32:4? ... a God of truth. and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit and truth. They have not pursued god for who He is, not really. Not the truth of who He Is. not the full truth.
Oh how do I love the book of Hosea! Hos 6:1 Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up. Hos 6:2 After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight. Hos 6:3 Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.
here the people of God finally acknowledged their error. their sin. they finally came to the truth. They called it what it is. They judged it. let me say it again... they judged it. and when they first came to the truth and judged it then was the mercy and grace, the love, the fellowship, even that peace... then was it accessible. You see... in ALL Gods ways is judgment. Judgment comes first. we are to Judge it. We are to call it what it is.
in Isiah 59:1 (in the OP) God is telling them... look guys I can save you... I AM able... and if you call it what it is in truth... if you judge it I will hear. If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
oh He will hear... but He Is also saying I will not compromise. judge it and be revived because in verse two... your sin has separated us. not truth, no judgment... no fellowship.
if we confess our sins He is faithful.
God is good. so good.

Its their vesion of love that is false . its their version of freedom that is false , their verison of judgment is even false . The thing is without beholding BOTH the GOODNESS of GOD and HIS SEVERITY , its all out of wack . For many preach a god that has no severity and thus if you pay attention to their goodness IT TOO IS OFF . they preach the goodness of GOD as being accepting of sin and not rather the true goodness of GOD which would LEAD ONE TO REPENTANCE . A small group is big on severity ONLY , but again they say nothing about nor point to the way out . THEY DONT POINT to CHRIST , they just accuse and have no desire to see anyone saved , just feel self righteous . Then we have the smallest group of all, AND I MEAN REMNANT SMALL . the true lambs . THEY DO BEHOLD the SEVERITY of GOD and the GOODNESS of GOD . They know the terror of GOD so they persuade men to repent and they KNOW if one who is saved does not continue in HIS GOODNESS they will be cut off . These will be warners and encouragers . They will do as the SPIRIT leads , and I promise the see themselves as no big thing , OH BUT THEY SEE CHRIST AS EVERYTHING .

Goodness and severity. and let us also remember what else that verse says... but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
and there are those who say read the whole passage and use it to prove hyper grace. we can never learn of Him and His ways if we only read the parts we want to.

"When I say to the righteous that he shall surely live,
but he trusts in his own righteousness and commits iniquity,
none of his righteous works shall be remembered; but because of the iniquity
that he has committed, he shall die." - Ezekiel 33:13
"Yet you say,
‘The way of the Lord is not fair.’
O house of Israel,
I will judge every one of you according to his own ways." - Ezekiel 33:20
"For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father
with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works." - Matthew 16:27Blessings!
