I am needing a new Bible. I am currently reading in an Amplified Bible which I really like. I had bought a Bible a few years back that is a Chronological Bible. But, the thing is it's a New Living Translation. Is anyone familiar with this and if it's ok?

I wish this one was ok because I bought it. I guess I can just go by it for Chronological order.

First and foremost... ask God to give you the bible you need. He sees way further down the road than anyone here does. as for my suggestion and thoughts...
I think most on this forum will tell you get a KJV. I lean more to this version myself. However its no longer 1611 (or the revised version english either) and the english language is not exactly the same. if you get a KJV i recommend getting a good dictionary, and a bible dictionary, a strongs concordance(exhaustive) and spend some time looking up words until you get a good feel for it. most of this can be had for free online if money is an issue. Esword is a good one i like and use a lot. still though get a paper bible, I meant the references could be had for free... if the electricity goes out you wont have a bible.
do not get an NIV. it has so many exemptions its pathetic. hundreds.
I just looked up new living translation and compared to other versions... I would get a different one. some verses seem ok, but there are others that seem to not convey the point very well.
If God is speaking to you out of this bible right now read it. try others if you like. if you find one where you seem to be getting more food for your spirit stay with that one.
Let God lead you where you need to read from.

The only one I can fully recommend is the Authorized King James Version Bible. It does use old English, so it is not as easy to understand as the modern English Bibles, but it is the only one I believe is fully reliable. Among the modern English Bibles, I would agree with 2fw8212a, that the New King James Bible is probably the best among them. That is because most of the modern English Bibles remove portions of the text, and they also made changes to differentiate themselves from other translations to get a copywrite. That means that the newer the translation, the more liberties they had to take with the text in order to make money off of it.

I would personally recommend the KJV as well (authorized version), I believe that it can be understood, and good dictionaries to some degree can help.
And especially praying to God to reveal the word to you.
A pastor friend of mine told me a story once of this guy who could barely read, yet he could understand the KJV bible for some reason, and it seems that the Holy Spirit just opened his eyes so he was able to understand what it said in the bible.
God can do miracles, and can enable us to understand it.

Butero is right . The kjv is truly the only one I can fully vouche for too . The more we read it , the more it will sink in . I have read read it so often , When I write it I can say it in our version of English . It will come together more and more over time . The beauty of it , Is its accurate . I have read other versions too, and some and flat out bad , while others are not as bad . They did not copy a direct translation of the words in these newer ones . I wonder if one was to just rewrite at least the new testament in our newer langage and was not it in for the money , IF they would allow that . If I took the time to rewrite it in our newer language , I would care not for a penny profit . Just that the word gets out to the people . I wonder if I hand copy some of the letters , if sister Candace could get it put together into a book of the new testament . Cause rest assured I would not want to change a single meaning of it . Imagine what one who does so , WILL say ON the DAY of the LORD . That they wanted to make a profit , so the cost came at excluding or changing truth . HOW TERRIFYING that day would be for the man or woman who did such a thing. But in my heart , I know I could rewrite the new test and put it in todays language without changing any meaning .

This would take a while , but I think its well worth it . If I hand write all them letters and send them to Candace or butero could you all then find one who can make it into a book and THEN we can give it to people like our loved Dezi and it can really help her . If you all want to do this , I will begin . But it will take time . I guess I could do a book at a time . Maybe starting first with the letters from paul and so on and then do the longer ones like the gosples and revelations last . It would be a word for word , not MY interpretation of what I THINK it should say , just word for word and formatted in our newer English . If you all are up for it , I will begin and then each letter I finish I mail it to whomever we decide can put it together .

Put me down in agreement that KJV is still the most accurate. frienduff if you want to tweak the NT and make a little book to send to Dezi, I’d be open to helping.

I will just have to read it like it is even though it is confusing. Maybe I can just use another version to cross reference? I just don't like having to take so long when reading it. If I don't understand what it means I have to keep looking up words or expressions. I wonder what you all think of the Amplified Version?

You could always have a New King James Bible to compare the Authorized King James Bible with, if you really couldn't quite figure something out. Frienduff's idea is interesting. I have thought about trying to create something word for word to the KJV Bible in today's English, for the express purpose of making sure it didn't change the meaning or leave anything out, but that would take a lot of time. I am not necessarily opposed to the idea. I think it is doable.

An idea is that I will do romans . Butero you do first corinthains . When we get done we can mail them to each other to read and we test and ensure its word for word . then we mail them to Candace . She reads both . maybe get Cletus or another to read them and test them for being word for word accurate . We can all have a part . This way also we can be accountable too. Let me know what you all think . If so , I will begin asap with romans . Maybe we could do this with three of us . me you and Cletus . But only if one is led . If not then at least they can read it .

Also a good thought came to me . Some of the older words like unseemingly I will keep . their is a reason . When writing romans one for example it shows very clear men with men working that which is unseemingly . Now also in first Corinthians the LOVE CHAPTER , it clearly says Love does not behave itself unseemingly . I WANT that to remain the same SO folks can know gay marriage Is not love and etc . I will cap the word UNSEEMINLY in romans , make sure to cap it in Corinthians thirteen . The way the kjv is worded is so wonderful .

I am not sure how quickly I can get this done, as I want it done right, but I will give it a try. 1 Corinthians it is.
