There are stories in the Bible where blessings and cursing were pronounced on an individual, and they effected their children. The same thing goes for whole tribes and nations. Can you simply renounce them and get free from such curses? I don't know of any specific Bible instructions that cover it, but it is not something I have spent much time looking into.

Are they real? Does the Bible speak of them? Thanks. Yes.
"The Lord is longsuffering and abundant in mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression;
but He by no means clears the guilty,
visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation." - Numbers 14:18
But I believe that once someone comes to Christ and is forgiven, they are no longer under curse.
"Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law,
having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”)..." - Galatians 3:13
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation;
old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." - 2 Corinthians 5:17
Glory to God!

Glory to God! Do you have to renounce the curses, and how do you know you are under a curse?

Do you have to renounce the curses, and how do you know you are under a curse? All unrepentant/unforgiven sinners are under a curse.
"For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse;
for it is written,
“Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.”" - Galatians 3:10

"...that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God." - Romans 3:19
"...the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe.
For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God..." - Romans 3:22-23

I know that sin opens the door to spiritual attacks and even curses. If you gave the devil access through sin, you might need to, but repenting of the sin might be all that is required. This is really about spiritual warfare.

I have been studying this to some degree for several years.... currently I am studying it a lot. I have found this man to really be so good. He teaches it straight from the Word of God and it makes so much sense. I started out by watching a series he did about witchcraft. We some how have thought that if we weren't participating in witchcraft ourselves or worshiping other gods then we would not be affected by our ancestors that did these things. My ancestors were into Free Masonry. I probably have some into many different forms of Sorcery, but that is the one I know of. Yes, we are affected by these past sins if they were never forgiven. I will post a couple of this man's series about it so you can begin to learn if you are interested.

I may look at them too, because I am not that much up on this topic. The videos will likely be more helpful than I can be to those with questions about generational curses.

They just have to believe, if renouncing will cause them to believe then yes.
