I personally do not believe in the gap theory.

here is one of my thoughts. show me a verse where it says God made the water. and study the words used about god creating very carefully. some of them hold the idea of sculpting. you will need to look for other instances of the words being used.
is gen 1:1 and 1:2 saying God made it without form or is it saying it was there already, and God just made it what it is now. i wasnt there so i do not know.

Gen 1:1-2 (1) In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (2) And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
It talks about God creating the earth here, and then in verse 2, it mentions the earth, therefore the earth was in existence, but he just did not form it yet or dress it, and it seemed to be void of any specific form, but yet existed, for it says "the (definite article) earth".
What was without form? Nothing? Nope, the earth.

I think that the most straight forward reading implies that the world was still a work in progress. God created it a blank canvass, which was referred to as without form and void, and then proceeded to do his work of creation. The gap theory seems to have come about to explain things we can't account for, like dinosaurs and cavemen. It also gives an explanation to how the earth could be millions of years old, so we don't look like intellectual light weights or superstitious to a scientific world that is convinced that the world is millions of years old rather than thousands of years old. It is just as likely that the dinosaurs were part of the original creation, but not mentioned by name, as many other species are not mentioned. Of course, there is also the other theory that they were the product of angel-man hybrids monkeying around with animal DNA as some speculate, but the simplest answer is probably the correct one. They likely were around from the time of Genesis but became extinct.
