Behold, a sower went forth to sow; And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: But others fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it. Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

Many of these people were one time believers. Many were saved for a long time but fell away. This parable shows that things like cares of this life can cause you to backslide and lose salvation.

You are absolutely right Solid. Of course there are many Christians that will endure for a time and fall away because of the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches, among other things. Those who hear the word and never even understood it were never saved, but many of these people were saved and lost their salvation.

Look at what the Lord said about people who hear the Word of God. Some hear it and never understand it, the devil comes along and takes it away immediately. They were never saved. Then you have some that hear the Word, receive it with joy, endure for a while, but as a result of persecution and tribulation, they are offended and fall away. Next you have some that hear the word, and continue for a time, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke it to where they don't bear good fruit. They were clearly saved for a time. It is those who receive the Word, bear good fruit, and endure that remain saved, but many of those who fell away were genuine Christians.

Because the disciples asked the Lord privately what this parable means, it is one time we are not left to figure it out for ourselves. We have the parable plus the interpretation.

This parable proves that OSAS is a lie. Many that believed the word and received it, and even continued for a long time, wound up falling away. I don't know how anyone can deny that? I am surprised more people don't point to this parable to show you can get saved and still fall away and be lost again.

I don't often bring this parable up either, but it clearly shows that a person can get saved, and continue serving the Lord for a long time, but later fall away and be lost again. How can someone deny this? You would be surprised how those who promote things like OSAS can twist scripture to make it say things it does not. I mentioned some of the tricks they use in the Visitor's Forum section. If someone is sincerely looking for the truth, this parable should be adequate to prove to them that even a genuine Christian can fall away and be lost.

Everything you mentioned over there, I have seen used. I have never seen an orderly debate on the topic where both sides addressed all the scriptures pro and con and moved on.

Everything you mentioned over there, I have seen used. I have never seen an orderly debate on the topic where both sides addressed all the scriptures pro and con and moved on. I have never seen an orderly debate on it either. It always breaks down into each group ignoring the other side and returning to a handful of their favorite scriptures. The OSAS side is especially bad about that, along with catch phrases.
