Challenge: But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Find the original place of all four quotes. Deuteronomy 8:3 "And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna Which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live."
Psalm 91:11 "For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways."
Deuteronomy 6:16 "Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah."
Deuteronomy 6:13 "Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name."

I posted this passage from Isaiah Chapter 11 which is clearly referring to Jesus, but I want to tie verse 2 in with the New Testament. Isaiah 11:2
And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
Matthew 3:16,17
And Jesus when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God, descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Matthew 3:17 can be tied to Psalm 2:7
I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

Jesus quoted Deuteronomy to rebuke Satan! If you think Deuteronomy is just a boring pointless section of the Old Testament, think again! Would that we all could rebuff the enemy with God’s word!!!

Jesus in 1 Samuel 1
And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions: But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the Lord had shut up her womb. And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the Lord had shut up her womb. And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the Lord, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat. — 1 Samuel 1:4-7
And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife. And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes. — Genesis 16:3-4
For this child I prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him: Therefore also I have lent him to the Lord; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the Lord. And he worshipped the Lord there. — 1 Samuel 1:27-28
And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called. — Genesis 21:12
Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the Lord. — Isaiah 54:1
And the Lord said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle. In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.... And the Lord appeared again in Shiloh: for the Lord revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the Lord. — 1 Samuel 3:11-12, 21
As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved. And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God. — Romans 9:25-26

And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be? And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. Luke 8:9,10
And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. Isaiah 6:9

But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Matthew 9:36
Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation. Which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the LORD be not as sheep which have no shepherd.

A psalm of the bride of Christ....
Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father's house; So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him. And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall entreat thy favour.
The king's daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold. She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework: the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee. With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought: they shall enter into the king's palace.
Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth. I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever.
— Psalm 45:10-17

And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one. Zechariah 14:9
And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. Revelation 11:15

They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. Psalm 69:21
After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, it is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. John 19:28-30
That verse from Psalm 69:21 was clearly speaking of Jesus being offered vinegar mixed with gall while on the cross. I noticed something this time around I hadn't in the past. It was right after they did this that Jesus said "It is finished," and gave up the ghost or died. Every prophecy about the Lord had to be fulfilled, so it came across to me this time that until that final prophecy happened, Jesus couldn't die, but once it did occur, it truly was finished because everything mentioned in scripture that had to happened before His death was now accomplished.

I have been thinking about this Scavenger Hunt, and I feel like we are bound to be missing a lot of references to Jesus because we don't know what has been covered. We are just kind of jumping all over the place, rather than being organized. I don't know if anyone would be interested, but we could have a Scavenger Hunt 2, where we focus on one book at a time starting in Genesis. We could focus on each book for a week and let everyone have an opportunity to post whatever they can find. I think we barely scratched the surface in locating references to Jesus.
One other thing we could try is having an individual thread for each Scavenger Hunt. One thread would be Jesus In Genesis, then Jesus in Exodus, and so forth, so we don't have a time limit. What do you all think? I just don't think we have done justice to the idea Candance had.
