But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard. He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went. And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not. Whether of them twain did the will of his father?

We can make the following conclusion:
“...be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror;
for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.” - James 1:22-24
“...as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance...” - 1 Peter 1:14

Ideally, it would have been good if both sons were jumping to it when their Father told them to work in the vineyard, but which one did the will of the Father? It was the one that said no, but repented and obeyed, rather than the one that said yes, and didn't follow through. We do have to be doers of the Word if we want eternal life. There are many out there claiming to be followers of God and saying Jesus is Lord, but they don't do the things he says. How is Jesus their Lord?
