For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took is journey.
Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.
After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them. And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed: And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, here thou hast that is thine.
His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: Thou oughtest to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

While reading this parable, the question comes up, are we talking about money the Lord gave us or callings and abilities? I think it is both. Any good thing we have is from God. He entrusts us with talents.
This tells me that if we are faithful with what God gives us, he will give us more. If we are slothful, he will take what he gave to us and give it to someone who will be faithful. It goes beyond that. Failure to be faithful is a sin. If we are not found faithful, at the judgment, we will be cast out.
What stopped the wicked servant from being faithful? The Lord mentions laziness, but what else? Fear. That kept him from doing anything with his talent. Don't let fear stop you from using your gifts and doing your calling. God only expects you to do things in your ability. If you have a calling, step out and do it. You have far more reason to fear being found wicked and slothful than to let fear and self doubt stop you. Don't let someone else get your talent and find yourself a castaway.

One thing that I was considering was how the Lord told the wicked servant that even if he wasn't going to do anything with his talent, he should have at least put it in the bank to get some return. I believe that when we give to someone else's ministry or assist others, we share in the rewards. There is still a return.

Fear is one of the devil's favorite tools to stop us from doing anything for God.

Fear is one of the devil's favorite tools to stop us from doing anything for God. You are right. People will sit on the sidelines and never do anything for God for fear of embarrassment or persecution. If you don't use your talents and aren't obedient to God's call, it is a sin.
There is a guy I used to go to church with who was called to preach. He was given an opportunity and did okay, but wasn't as good of a speaker as the Pastor. The devil climbed on his back and convinced him he wasn't called after all. God wants to use you in your abilities. There aren't that many Jimmy Swaggart speakers that can also sing and play like him. Step out and do your best by faith, and if it is not perfect, so what? Obedience and doing your best is what God desires.

Ecc 11:1 Cast thy bread upon the waters; for thou shalt find it after many days. Ecc 11:2 Give a portion to seven, yea, even unto eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth. Ecc 11:3 If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth; and if a tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there shall it be. Ecc 11:4 He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap. Ecc 11:5 As thou knowest not what is the way of the wind, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child; even so thou knowest not the work of God who doeth all. Ecc 11:6 In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thy hand; for thou knowest not which shall prosper, whether this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good. Ecc 11:7 Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun. Ecc 11:8 Yea, if a man live many years, let him rejoice in them all; but let him remember the days of darkness, for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity. Ecc 11:9 Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth, and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thy heart, and in the sight of thine eyes; but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment. Ecc 11:10 Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh; for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.

Do you think the parable is about money or talents, abilities, gifts? About what the Lord has given us according to the Spirit . So it is using all you have to serve God? Not looking at anything as your own but just leant to you by the Lord?

About what the Lord has given us according to the Spirit . So it is using all you have to serve God? Not looking at anything as your own but just leant to you by the Lord? That's right . anything and everything we have been given let it be all to honor God . For it is even God that giveth man breath and has made man to serve and honor HIM . And JESUS has prevailed over all things . And now in HIM this type of worship , the true worship in SPIRIT and TRUTH , is now given unto all who believe in HIM . Being born not of the flesh , but the true birth from above . The Father is SPIRIT and seek such to worship Him in Spirit and in truth . And HE has made the new convenant which in JESUS ALONE is given . Wherein the beauty of Gods eternal words are upon the heart , in the mind and the ability to both live and love it is upon the hearts of all lambs who are His . JESUS truly is the way and THE ONLY WAY . Thus in all things let us take it joyfully . Let he who stole steal no more but rather give and work with his own two hands . Let he who once steaped up forhimself , steap no more , but give and give joyfully to all who truly lack . Let he who once desired the preeminence , desire it no more but GIVE unto GOD , unto He who is worthy all preeminence . Let he who once trusted in earthern riches , TRUST NO MORE , but rather trust in GOD alone and as all have been freely given , let them freely give unto others . Let He who was servant to sin , By the power of the SPIRIT now be servant no more , but rather serve the LIVING GOD in SPIRIT and IN TRUTH . Doing all which is pleasing IN HIS SIGHT by the Spirit which works what is well pleasing in His sight . Let He who lied , lie no more , but rather speak ye truth one to another and put off the deeds of the old man . Let He who has been set free from sin , continue IN the one who set us free from sin . For truly we are debtors . But not to the flesh , for if we live after the flesh we will die , but if through the Holy Spirit we do mortify the deeds of the body we shall live . Let he who once loved as does the world , love no longer as does the world . For its love is sensual and death . Its a love that will feed the flesh and exalt man and put our carnal desires first . Rather let them love according to the LOVE which comes from God . And this love would love every word our LORD did speak , it would rejoice in truth and not in inquity , it would honor GOD in all things and place and LOVE HIM above all . But the love of the world is death and its end will be the second death . He who loves Father , mother , daughter , son , wife , husband , anything more than ME is not worthy of me . For this is the love of the world and it comes not from above , but rather the world . If any man loves the world , the LOVE of the FATHER is not in him . For the cares and pleasures in life , the lusts of the eyes and of the flesh is death and the carnal mind cannot receive the things which be of GOD . Let all do an all out exodus from men of hermes , men who twist things , And cling to the LORD and learn all things HE did say and embrace and love it all . FOR it is as mana unto the soul , as honey to the taste , as food that nourishes the soul . From every warning to every promise , let all things both JESUS and the apostles wrote be embraced and loved and eaten with all out joy . For we are now in the days of great evil and of massive delusion and all things will get only worse . The lambs must be contiously exhorting one another daily , being on guard and heeding the SPIRIT and sound doctrine .
