This thread is about old mr Irrrky.
And it is about being careful of what we let motivate us, when we speak against this or that and so on.
Yes we are called to speak against false doctrine, yes we are called to expose the hidden works of darkness, and so on and so on.
But also we are called to speak on things like the grace of God, faith, mercy and so forth.
The word irk means this:
(irk[ urk ] verb (used with object)
to irritate, annoy, or exasperate:
It irked him to wait in line.)
Our motivation behind exposing false doctrine and the like, should not be really based upon, because this or that irritates us, therefore we will speak against it, because we want our revenge, because they hurt us, and so on.
Our motivation should be based upon because we actually care about the person, and do not want to see them fall into a trap.
Our goal is seeking the people's good, and not to puff us up.
Not to puff us up, such as look at me I did not fall into that false doctrine; see speaking against false doctrine is not a boost me up session.
Yes sometimes we may say things in a righteous anger kind of way, which is totally fine, for the bible speaks of righteous anger, but as long as we are seeking the good of the people, and not using this as a boost me up session.
So do not let mr Irrrky get the best of you.

Anything can become a source of boasting if we’re not careful.

Pro 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

I somehow completely missed this message until tonight. I will on occasion use the word irked, but "irrrky" or even "irky" is a new word for me. I think you are right Giller. The main thing that motivates me to expose works of darkness is wanting others to beware of things that can harm them. I am not wanting them to be deceived and fall into some trap that could lead to their destruction. That really should be our motivation when it comes to things like this.
