There are some who look at OSAS as some harmless false doctrine. As long as you are living for Christ, who cares if you believe you can never lose salvation, no matter what you do? It is just a theological question. The problem is, in order to defend this lie, you have to teach things that will lead others into hell. I am going to give you two examples I know of right now where this false doctrine may have led to people winding up in hell.
In the first instance, there was a suicidal woman who asked if she would go to heaven if she was saved and killed herself. Those of us who reject OSAS would say no, because her last act would be murder of self, and there was no chance to repent. What kind of responses did she get from the OSAS crowd? They told her that so long as she was saved, she would go to heaven. One person went so far as to tell her she would go right into the arms of Jesus. To this day, I do not know if that woman committed suicide and is spending eternity in hell because of those false teachers. I hope and pray she did not listen to them, but I will never really know.
Now we have a second possible victim of OSAS. You see, in order to defend OSAS, there can be no way a born again believer can ever lose salvation, but they have a dilemma. Jesus taught that if you blaspheme or speak a word against the Holy Ghost, you will never receive forgiveness in this world or the world to come. They can't have that, because anyone can speak a word against the Holy Ghost, so they denied what Jesus taught and said the unpardonable sin is unbelief. They call that blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, which on the surface is absurd, but people believe the lie. This morning, a young lady said she believed that lie, and believed it to the point that she spoke against the Holy Spirit during an argument. Did she cross that line of committing the unpardonable sin? God knows our heart, and if there is any hope I might be able to give her, it is in that she may not have realized what she was doing. Sadly, I can't give any absolute assurance, and the Bible states that people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Believing a lie can cost you everything if you act on that lie.
People, you need to know the Bible for yourself, and stop listening to opinions. I am not saying you shouldn't watch or listen to preachers and teachers and ask for advise, but don't let that be the final word. Please know your Bible! That is the message I was trying to get across this week in video message, "Why Do You Believe?" Why do you believe the only unpardonable sin is unbelief? Why do you believe in OSAS? Why do you believe any of the doctrinal positions you believe? Open those Bibles and read what God says. Do you really want to take a chance on your eternal soul, based on the many opinions of men alone? If you turn on the radio and listen to various preachers, you will get one after another contradicting what the other person said. If you go from one church to another, you would be amazed how different they are in what they teach! Please, know what God says for yourself by reading the KJV Bible. Don't jump around. Read it straight through. Things can be taken out of context when you just read isolated verses.
