The Southern Baptist Convention held a major conference event last week to discuss the celebrity pastors who keep falling from sexual impropriety. The conference was attended by the whos-who of SBC big shots. Denomination president JD Greear (mister ‘I love gays and hate non-tithers’) gave a keynote speech to 1600 attending pastors.
Billy Graham’s grandson Boz Tchividjian, a mover-shaker in the business, used the event to attack gender roles in church:
“A system that excludes one entire gender from leadership—something wrong with that,” Tchividjian said, to much applause from the crowd. While he didn’t get into the theological reasons he believes a lack of women in leadership is wrong, he said he’s happy to have a theological debate on that topic with those who are interested.

Not to be outdone, celebrity preacher Beth Moore said the SBC’s official stance on women pastors must be re-examined due to how it creates female victims (or something). Her speech at the conference, met by rousing applause, is the crescendo of a months-long attack on.. wait for it... Paul’s epistles. Apparently anything Paul said that Jesus didn’t say can be characterized as a Pauline doctrinal opinion. But she still believes the Bible is the flawless word of God. Or something.

Those at the very top of SBC influence are moving the denomination leftward. They refuse to give clear answers on LGBT, openly question Christian gender roles, and are working to diminish Paul’s portion of the New Testament in Sunday School curriculums. The Caring Well conference was a major public attack on traditional doctrine. Bloggers are calling the conference a “watershed moment” that signals the beginning of the end for SBC.
