I was going to place this in that other thread I started, but I felt like I needed to do it separate. We have addressed numerous problems in the church where they have gone astray and need reform. We are doing that now with regard to Christian music and worship music. Can you think of other things within the church world that need reform?

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Using secular holidays and festivals as an integral part of a church’s calendar. God never told Israel to host a party during pagan festivals to help them relate to pagan cultures. We can say we’re doing it to “redeem” those holidays, but we know deep down that our children enjoy getting Halloween candy and we’re looking for a way to defend it. There’s absolutely no way to glorify Jesus by giving free candy to children on a random night in October. You want to pass out candy at home that night, so be it, but don’t pretend it’s a church event.
Jumping on the latest social media app to “redeem” it for Christ. Deep down, the truth is we like it as much as the world does. Most of what we call redeeming is just a Christianese way to say ”I want to get away with being just like the world.”
Learning from public speech experts on how to sound likable on stage, how to sell an argument, and how to get emotional “conversions.”
Wrapping Christ around your own cultural biases. Jesus is a socialist/capitalist/etc because that’s my political persuasion. Jesus is pleased by rock-n-roll worship because that’s the music I like. They celebrate Thanksgiving in heaven because I celebrate Thanksgiving.

Jesus is a socialist/capitalist/etc because that’s my political persuasion. Jesus is pleased by rock-n-roll worship because that’s the music I like. They celebrate Thanksgiving in heaven because I celebrate Thanksgiving. Thank you for your input. It is something how the church does follow a pattern centered around the holidays each year. Is this good or bad when it comes to Christmas and Easter? It does give us open doors to reach people, but so does seeker friendly. I think you have a point. With Halloween, no church should have parties, candy give away night, and even haunted houses or depictions of hell. We shouldn't even be questioning that.
Social media can be used to evangelize, but we know why we are there based on what we are doing. Are we discussing Jesus or sports and politics, which is what I usually would do at Facebook? I never claimed to be there to evangelize. I only remain there to keep contacts with people I know that are scattered across the country, and I spend very little time there anymore, perhaps 15 minutes in a week if that.
My personal preference is free market capitalism, but if we are really looking at the most Bible based system of government, it is a Kingdom, where our King is Jesus, and we have Judges that interpret His instructions from the Bible. That is what we should seek to return to. Reform should include all areas of our lives, and it should be about following Jesus based on His teachings in the Bible.
