Jesus ministry was to the Jews. The sheep that were not of this fold were the gentiles that hadn't yet been evangelized. God has called different people to different ministries. An Apostle is a missionary, and their primary role is to reach the lost and establish new churches with those converts. They also oversee the new congregations. Prophets primary role is to give out direct messages from God to the church or the world and to share specific messages to a group that deals with things God knew they needed to hear. A Pastor's primary role is to be a shepherd over a congregation. Evangelism for him is secondary. Teachers have a primary role of instructing Christians into a deeper understanding of the Word. If a church encourages people to use their ministry gifts, all of these things are being done. There is ministry to the church and to those outside the church.
Dear brother I believe the "ninety and nine" scripture speaks God's instruction for itself, and that we glean a different vision for the church from the bible in general, from the traditional ways we inherited from Rome. All I know is, the church needs to be on the offensive in this spiritual war a lot more than it has been. An army doesn't spend it's entire tour of duty sitting in camp talking about the war and tending to the wounded....they go out and actually fight in the war to take more ground for their King. I am all for being on offense, but different people have different jobs, even in the military. Do you have some suggestions concerning how to go on offense?

I started a Witnessing And Evangelism section to discuss ways to reach the lost. If you are feeling a burden to reach the lost and be more on offense, God may have called you to be an evangelist? Each person has their part to play.

I am trying to discuss it here...but please feel free to move it to the other section if it's not appropriate in this thread. I think part of the problem with traditional churches is that pastors operate alone, so they are already overburdened......I'm pretty sure the Lord intends to give pastoring gifts to more than one person in a larger group/church of believers, and then that makes Jesus' instruction a lot more doable. And doing things the world's way is a much bigger drain on a pastor's time and energy to begin with. Another problem is that the sheep never grow and develop their own gifts...they don't get discipled but remain dependent on the pastor rather than growing and becoming an active soldier in the army. Just trying to say in general we need a whole new mindset than the one we came up under.....to me, that would be Suggestion #1.

We need everyone working together. What do you see as your ministry gifts and primary calling?

I think we are getting our wires crossed John....I am not in any way implying criticism of this forum or the way it's being run.

okay, sorry, I got confused when you started talking about gifts and callings, I hadn't been thinking along those lines. Please excuse me from saying much about myself on the "world wide web", I'm cautious that way, unless the Lord leads me to share.

I just meant like, if you feel God has called you to a specific ministry, if there is a way to do that ministry through Narrow Way or if there is a strategy that can be devised to help you do it, it could be to your benefit. But certainly, be as cautious as you like and always be led of God.

AND I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
Apostle Paul, 1 Corinthians 2:1,2

Rather than coming with gimmicks, Paul simply brought a straight forward message of the plan of salvation. He just shared truth. That is our example.

Amen. Our weapons are not carnal, but are spiritual. Faith, love, the word and the Holy Spirit. And they are MIGHTY in God! Signs follow the preaching of the gospel to the lost.
