“We’re a Bible based church because we teach it line by line.”
Out of curiosity, do we have any Biblical examples of Jesus or the apostles teaching a chapter of the Torah line by line?

“We’re a Bible based church because we teach it line by line.” Out of curiosity, do we have any Biblical examples of Jesus or the apostles teaching a chapter of the Torah line by line? We have liberty in the Spirit. The Spirit can teach us in many ways.
“But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by,
so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.” - Romans 7:6
Blessings!

To me, line by line is a good teaching method, but not necessarily for preaching every sermon. And no, I have no such examples.

Line by line certainly has its value. It could definitely be useful in some cases. But lots of churches use this as a crutch, and it makes a smokescreen for rejecting teaching of a broader scope.

It removes God from leading in the message. It is better than Joel Osteen type messages all the time, but I know from experience that you need to give God lead way to tell you what to preach on a given week.

I cant think of a place in the NT where thats the standard but it is in the bible:
Isa 28:9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. Isa 28:10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
as far as what people say... well people say lots of things.
