I have something strange I would like to ask about... many who believe in OSAS say that you never really knew the Lord if you have gotten into sin correct? Well... now that I have read the Word all the way through and reading it again now. I want to say that I do wonder about if I was truly a Christian before. I do think I truly got saved as a child but then later I wonder? I wonder because I feel like I knew "of" the Lord but not that I "knew" the Lord, really. If you hear of Him and accept Him then you are saved. But, if you never continue seeking His word but just go to church and go along with whatever a preacher says to do... then maybe you are not even saved at all? I only knew what was being taught to me at church. I didn't read for myself and study what God really wanted of me or who he was according to scripture. So, I feel this is the majority of so called Christians today. I would dare to say that 95% of the church members of any Christian church don't read the Word of God... so do you really know Him if you don't study His word? Just a thought I've been having and would like some input on it.

That is possible. You can think you are saved, but not really be. Something else I believe is that many claim to know Jesus, but do not. They know the name, and they know that He died on a cross for our sins, but they do not know the Jesus of the Bible. They created a false image of Jesus and molded him into the kind of god they want him to be. You can only know the real Jesus by His word. We do have a personal relationship with him, where we feel His presence, and yes, He will speak to us at times, but we know of His character and get to know the real Jesus Christ by His words. If you never read the Bible, you don't know Him. When I say, "don't know Him," I mean his teachings, the way he behaves, things like that. I do not mean that if you live in a place where there are no Bibles, you can't have met Him, but when you have nothing to go by but hearsay, you tend to imagine what He is like. The consensus to most is that Jesus is nothing but love, and he loves us so much, he will let us do as some are saying, commit acts of rape, murder and theft, with no repentance, and go to heaven, which is crazy.

While I do believe you can think you are saved when you aren't, if a person sincerely repents of their sins, and accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior, at that moment, they are saved. They can know they are saved, to where if they died, they would go to heaven, but they still may not be the elect. They can still turn back to sin and die lost. The prodigal son was saved till he walked away from the Father, and he became lost and dead. When he returned, he was found and alive again. Saved for the second time.

I do think I was saved as a child, but I never learned enough from the Word of God to truly be living by His Words and knowing the truth about God and what he expected of me. It was all this new age religion of name it and claim it and lots of praise and worship but not really knowing much about the One true God! This is how I got into so much sin myself... I do believe. Now I am learning all about the true God and his Son and Holy Spirit. It sure makes you want to do "right". He truly is the creator of this world and he has the answers in his Word for us... but just listening to preachers does not teach us all that we should know and understand!

He truly is the creator of this world and he has the answers in his Word for us... but just listening to preachers does not teach us all that we should know and understand! You have two major problems when it comes to trying to understand all you need to know about God when you put all of your trust and confidence in any minister. You have some who are not genuine servants of God, and they are trying to steer you in the wrong direction to suit their agenda, whatever it may be. For some, it may be to promote liberal politics, or perhaps conservative politics? For some it may be to promote unity with everyone at the expense of truth. For some, it may be to create a very unjudgmental attitude towards sin, because they are living in sin themselves. There are many reasons why people teach lies. In the worst cases, there are genuine servants of the devil who are loyal to him, and trying to lead Christians astray.
Then you have sincere ministers, who are not teaching things that are false, but the ministers have certain areas where they tend to place all of their emphasis. They can be all about the love of Jesus. They can be all about faith and miracles. They can be all about holiness. They can be all about the gifts of the Spirit. Again, it is not that they are trying to teach wrong doctrine, but they are not balanced. Because of that, if you only listen to them, you will only come to some truth. I understand that is human nature, to spend most of your time on what you feel is most important.
That is why I have tried to do a couple of things here at Narrow Way. I have promoted through the Bible reading. This will be our second time through. I have also made it a point to have a Bible Study where we go through entire sections of the Bible. We went through teachings of Jesus, that covered all the parables and the Sermon on the Mount. We have gone through several of the epistles from beginning to end. Next, we are looking to start going through Revelation on January 8. This helps to add to anything I am sharing in the forums or others like Frienduff, Candance, Giller and Cletus are sharing. I recognize that left to our own devices, we will spend most of our time on what we feel is most important. I believe that all of the people I mentioned are genuine believers, and are sharing truth as best the understand it, but we all tend to spend most of our time according to what we find most imperative that the church hear. Frienduff will spend most of his time warning about the dangers of the all inclusive movement. I will spend my time on trying to bring everyone back to following God's proper order for the home and the church and standing against false doctrines like OSAS. Everyone else has their main focus. If you also read your Bible all the way through, and spend time in our Bible Study groups, you will know all about God's Word, the whole counsel of the Word of God. You will have all you need to know.
Another safe guard to this is that by knowing your Bible, it protects you if any of us should go astray down the road. I have seen people that started out in the truth fall away over time. If you know your Bible, you will recognize it when it happens. I want everyone here to be the most educated Christians when it comes to the Word of God that there is. I don't fear that, because I always seek to teach the Bible as written. The false prophets and teachers will either try to get you to place your confidence in teachers, rather than the Biblical text, or they will push you to read commentaries to get understanding or try to get you to follow things like hermeneutics. They will make fun of those who say they are trusting the Holy Spirit to lead them into all truth, even though that is what Jesus taught. Know your Bible for yourself, and you will recognize the true as opposed to the false when you hear it.

...so do you really know Him if you don't study His word? Just a thought I've been having and would like some input on it. “...If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word;
and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.” - John 14:23So, it seems that if you never listened to His word you cannot (truly) love Him.
And you cannot love what you do not know.
“But if anyone loves God, this one is known by Him.” - 1 Corinthians 8:3
And many people in this world do not know Him and many will die without knowing Him.
“And then I will declare to them,
‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” - Matthew 7:23
“Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.” - 1 John 3:4
“Whoever abides in Him does not sin.
Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.” - 1 John 3:6
“If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered;
and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.” - John 15:6
Blessings!

You can get saved and fall away, but you can also think you are saved when you are not. If you really put your trust in Jesus and obey the gospel, you can be saved and know you are saved. The ones who are deceived are those who never accepted the Lord, but try to save themselves by living a good and moral life. The other group that is deceived are those who accept Jesus and don't obey him.

If you are trying to save yourself apart from Jesus or believing in Jesus but failing to obey him, you will be in trouble on the judgment day.
