I noticed that when they were numbering the people, they only counted those from 20 years old and above. Was that the age when people could serve in the military? Was 20 considered the age where a person was considered an adult?

Was 20 considered the age where a person was considered an adult? I am happy to see you are still reading through the Bible with us. Yes, 20 was considered the age when someone became an adult. When the children of Israel rebel against God and refuse to enter into the land of Canaan, God has them wander in the wilderness till everyone 20 years old and above die out, with the exception of Joshua and Caleb, the only two adults besides Moses that believed the Lord. Twenty appears to be a sort of age of accountability, at least in that instance.

This is the closest thing I know of in the Bible that points to an age of accountability. Even though that was the cut off in that situation and for that purpose, that doesn't mean those under 20 are not accountable for their sins today.
