People who know not Christ , serve SELF , they do worship themselves. They pick a religion that suits who , THEM . That happens a lot, but people don't always choose their religion based on what they want. Many people get caught up in religious cults and faith in idols because someone convinces them that these religions are true, and they get in them out of fear.

All I'm saying is that we need the Lord, we need His mind/Spirit to illuminate and quicken His word to our hearts. In other words we need oil for our lamps...having a lamp without that extra oil will not light our path to the finish line. We serve a Living God and Christ....He's alive and has given us His Spirit (His Life) to help us, because we need Him. Why is it so hard for people to just say amen as if I have said something strange and foreign here, when it is only the word of God.

All idolatry boils down to self-worship. Oh but to love every word God ever inspired in the most beautiful book , is not idolatry . I just cant say it enough , it is truly as though every thing GOD inspired is worthy of all our heart as HE is worthy. I honestly don't know how to separate the love of GOD from the love of His word and truth , nor would I want too . Nor do I think this is what you mean either . You are loved sister . Exactly. It is when people separate His word from Him (His life and Spirit) that they are serving a dead letter. Then it is AS THOUGH they are worshiping the letter rather than the God who speaks them. I don't mean anyone sits a bible up on a pedestal and paints their faces and puts feathers in their hair to dance around that book and bows down to it, I am just painting a picture of an inward heart attitude that we don't want to have. And it is self-worship....because it is self-righteousness to serve a dead letter.....what the bible says about trying to establish one's own righteousness.

She is right on this butero . THINK on this , pray on this for a bit . WHY do people covet . and even covetous is idolatry . WHY do they covet money for example . FOR THIER OWN DESIRES , it is worship of self , they what is best for THEM . Any other religion is the same too . Think about that for a bit . Anything contrary to GOD , to embrace that is to embrace what self THINKS makes IT HAPPY . what serves what , THE FLESH . Serves us . I don't even think she is right. It is true about things like money, but not Baal worship or things like that. People often worship idols out of fear. It is not because it profits them. People sacrifice their own children to false gods out of fear. It is not all worship of self. John is right. Bondage is the consequence and chastisement for an initial idolatry.....rather than the cause. Then it becomes a chicken and egg kind of quandry that the person is stuck in. And then only the Lord can deliver a person from the bondages that come about due to idolatry of any kind. For the believer in Christ it is no longer rebellion being imputed to them (bondages are not wilfull/deliberate sins when the believer wants out of it)......but it is a case of what Paul was saying, that with the mind I want to serve the Lord, but with the body (in my flesh) I am not able to....who shall deliver me from this body of death? It can be a battle in prayer and seeking the Lord until the victory is won.....and the Lord is not condemning a child of God meanwhile who acknowledges their sin and are engaged in fighting it with Him.

Most people see Romans chapter 7 as talking about a struggle Christians have with the flesh, but I don't believe that is what it means. I believe that Paul was speaking of what it was like living under the law of Moses. People desired to live right and obey the law, but found they could not. Then you get to Romans chapter 8, and Paul speaks of new life through Jesus Christ. He gives us the power to overcome the flesh, whereas the law could not do that.

A very simple way to say this is , They read and learn the bible , but what is the reason behind it . many seek knowledge , but the why we do anything shows what is in our heart . Example . A bad one first . And we will let JESUS own words sum this up . Many will seek knowledge , wisdom , understanding from the bible , But they do it for to be seen of men , self worship . how so , they read they desire TO LOOK WISE unto men to be able to stand over a group and receive the praise and awes of man . THAT is SELF WORSHIP , inwardly they desire to be RECOGNIZED as some good and holy and wise man and have the praise of men . They stand and ponder , I am righteous and good because I DO thus and thus . But a true lamb seeks none of this . By grace a lamb seeks for wisdom , knowledge , understanding , so from the heart HE may truly learn and serve GOD as GOD desires . They do it out of love FOR HIM . They do good , but with no desire to be seen of men nor to receive the praise of men , nor to be seen as some wise and high individual . Ye shall be judged not just for what we do , BUT FOR THE HIDDEN MOTIVES of the heart and WHY we did and do as we do . FOR THE LORD thy GOD sees all and KNOWS all . Self worship will always do as it does , to be seen of men , to receive the recognition of men and to be seen as GOOD and HOLY in its own eyes . Worship of GOD in SPIRIT and in TRUTH will do all , for the desire that GOD ALONE receive all recognition and glory , as it walks lowly and humble and does all , knowing that GOD who sees in secrete is whom they aim to please and not men and not self , but GOD ALONE . And the beauty of this is , WHEN we do from the heart what pleases HIM alone , WHAT A REJOICING of the SOUL HE DOES GIVE HIS CHILDREN .

Bondage is the consequence and chastisement for an initial idolatry.....rather than the cause. Then it becomes a chicken and egg kind of quandry that the person is stuck in.
Lets change something . most people desire to live right and obey the law part . Lets reword that just a wee bit . Most people desire to Look good and go about to establish their own righteousness , they will pick and choose parts of what the law said and the parts that get in the way of SELF LOVE , they find a way around through their own precepts and doctrines . Really and deeply it boils down to this . They go about to establish their own righteousness and have not submitted to the righteous of Christ FOUND BY FAITH IN HE ALONE . Many can be pious and zealous , as even paul once was . MAN he thought for sure and for certain he was doing the will of GOD , but he was blind and how he peresecuted the true christains even unto strange cities . YET he did believe and according to the law He did much that was righteous , Yet did he really , for was he NOT with great power and vengeance persecuting the very church that JESUS established . But I bet he was still doing good THINGS , like prayer , like following commands in torah . Yet was he truly following Torah in SPIRIT and in TRUTH or was he following the letter of the law to establish his own righteousness and right standing with GOD . We know it was the latter . Paul KNEW IT TOO . And he counted the loss of all that , as total gain to WIN JESUS and be found in HIM , not having his own righteousness but the righteousness of GOD which is found ONLY IN CHRIST . One way serves self , the other GOD . Lets examine this own righteousness , we see it in the muslims , in even buddism , in even atheism , in any mindset contrary to GOD , contrary to Faith in CHRIST . If we do this or that we shall be worthy of heaven . Or in an athiest even , Who thinks HE is good enough as is . In essence any other false religion and mindset , is really saying this , we are the gods and we make the rules . I see satan in all false religions , in anything contrary to Christ , Satan surely is the one behind it . Feeding man , mans own personal desires and ideals with carnal wisdom and knowledge about HOW ye shall be as gods . As for romans seven , ponder this and examine it . IS evil not present within us . YES it is . Will it surface all on its own , YES it will . When was the last time any of us had to say to our flesh , HEY flesh its time for an evil thought to appear . NOPE , nor would we . YET its there , always evil is present within us . The sin that sins . YET we did not ask the flesh to rise up , IT DOES that all on its own for it is contrary to GOD . Where we sin is when we entertain the idea , the thought and lusts gives birth to the sin . We must shut down the evil desire of the flesh , WHEN once it rises up and woe it will . And the beauty of it is , A true lamb HAS JESUS , and sin has become exceeding sinful to them . They recognize the smallest unction of that evil flesh , FOR THE SPIRIT has given them all that is needed to be made aware . Has made them dead to sin , SO WHEN SIN REVIVES within them , THEY , having the SPIRIT are unctioned and see and Feel it as WICKED . Lambs must learn to bring those thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ . For in the flesh of man , from the core of the flesh , from within , comes forth evil . But a lamb has been washed and given new desires , CONTRARY to that evil flesh . A lamb has been given the HELPER , the SPIRIT and may all follow the SPIRIT and not the flesh . If any of this seems kind of hard to grasp , there truly is no need for us to strive over it .

Exactly. It is when people separate His word from Him (His life and Spirit) that they are serving a dead letter. Then it is AS THOUGH they are worshiping the letter rather than the God who speaks them. Another way of looking at it might be that Jesus said He didn't come for the righteous (in their own eyes) but for the unrighteous (in their own eyes)....and that those who are well (in their own eyes) do not need a physician, but only those who are sick (in their own eyes) need a physician. Jesus favoured the publican who was beating his breast and praying God have mercy on me a sinner....but not the one who was saying Lord I thank you that I am not like this publican here. It's in all our flesh to want to be righteous in our own eyes.....just another reason to die to our flesh.

It's in all our flesh to want to be righteous in our own eyes.....just another reason to die to our flesh. That and when JESUS had said I have come not for the righteous but for the unrighteous , the simple truth is , THERE IS NONE who are righteous . Only those who may think they are righteous in there own eyes . IN truth , there is none who is righteous and has not done evil . Thus all are unrighteous . Yet the blind say we SEE, and thus their sin remains . The truth of the wonderous flavor and savor of the glorious gospel of our LORD . The blind are made to see , and those who think they see are blinded . Let no man , woman or child harden their heart to the glorious gospel of our LORD . For it is a sweet savour , flavor , of life unto all who receive it , but death unto all who reject it .

We , as paul once wrote , are sweet savour . Life to those who receive the gospel , but the savor of death unto all who reject it . For if a man rejects the gospel , the very one WHO came to save , at their end will be the very one who does tread the wrath of GOD against . EITHER WAY the words of the gospel are a sweet savour of pure wonderous taste . feed on it and it is life , reject it and it is a death sentence.
