As I was reading last night, I saw a verse I heard about before where it says women aren't to dress like men and the other way around. I have been feeling convicted already that the clothes we wear today are too manly looking. I have heard some churches say women shouldn't wear pants. What do you all think?
Thanks for closing that thread about men and women. I was reading along, and thought it was offensive to be compared to a slave and prostitute for being an obedient wife. Why is that so bad someone would stoop to saying things like that? I don't mind doing what my husband says. Isn't that what the Bible says to do?

Sister, I quit following that mess when there were no answers that made sense about the other curses. Going to all skirts and dresses would be hard, because I do a lot of gardening, but I do agree with you that we should make an effort to look more feminine. Things have gone too far.

I think it may depend on what the culture you live in thinks is feminine and masculine. I have never myself thought it was masculine to wear pants because nobody I know thinks that. But there are lots of things that are masculine looking to me and others. I was a "tomboy" growing up and wanted to dress comfortable. I don't know if that was sinful or not? I think we should always be modest and not wear revealing clothes... but I don't personally think pants are masculine. Maybe someone can enlighten me if they are?

At my church, they teach that pants pertain to men and skirts and dresses to women. There are fewer and fewer churches taking that position today. There was a time where girls had to wear dresses in public schools, and it was against the law in some cities for women to wear pants.

Society and most religious groups with society have rejected God and His Word. Finding those who are faithful requires seeking them out, as well as God's Grace (we cannot find those who are faithful on our own, no matter how much we try) ....

I am not aware of the Bible saying what is men's and women's clothes, and what is masculine or feminine. There is nothing that says a prom dress pertains to a woman and is feminine. We kind of have to figure this out.

I understand what you are saying. The question I would have is can you ever imagine a situation where after many years of getting used to it, a house dress could be seen as masculine and is there anything a woman could wear today that would be looked at as wearing masculine clothes?

In some cultures a long dress type of garment was worn by men. So that to me is feminine. Today if a woman wore a suite and tie I would think that was masculine looking. So I do believe it's based on culture norms.

So I do believe it's based on culture norms. Everyone will ultimately have to make that decision. I know that my church would be in the minority here, but there are a fair number of Pentecostal, Apostolic and Independent Baptists and Mennonite churches that see pants as men's clothes. It is still a divisive issues in some places. I still see it debated at other message boards.

Thanks for closing that thread about men and women. I was reading along, and thought it was offensive to be compared to a slave and prostitute for being an obedient wife. Why is that so bad someone would stoop to saying things like that? I don't mind doing what my husband says. Isn't that what the Bible says to do? It has gotten hard to tell what many women wear today from men's clothes. Certainly, if you are feeling convicted about what you are wearing, you should listen to what you are being shown.
As far as that thread goes, I felt like I didn't have much choice but to close it. Everything was just going around in circles, and I think that comparing submissive wives to slaves and prostitutes was over the top.
