A friend of mine posted this on facebook today and then I reposted.... I want to share it here because it is so good!
Doctrine is your anchor to the truth.
Doctrine (from Latin: doctrina, meaning "teaching", "instruction" or "doctrine") is a codification of beliefs or a body of teachings or instructions, taught principles or positions, as the essence of teachings in a given branch of knowledge or in a belief system.
2 Timothy 3:16 - All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
We must be very careful as to what we are being taught. What we believe will effect every aspect of our life. When we listen to the wrong voices,we are allowing that persons beliefs to be transferred into our minds.
Satan is very crafty and cunning,he knows that he must mix truth with error so the person will not realize they are being deceived wth false doctrines. The word of God is being tampered with. Satan wants to fill our minds with wrong doctrine and a belief system that is man focused, instead God focused.
The only source of truth is The Holy Bible, so it makes sense that would be the target 🎯 for the enemy to creep in to pervert Gods word.
The Bible has a lot to say about sound doctrine, today the enemy has sat out to spread the lie that doctrine is not important and that those that stick to sound doctrine or being legalistic,judge-mental or trying to separate the body of Christ.
2 Timothy 4:3 KJV
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
Ephesians 4:14(KJV)
14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.
Hebrews 13:9 - Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For [it is] a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.
If our doctrine is based soundly upon Scripture, we can know we are walking in the path God designed for us. However, if we do not study the Word of God for ourselves (2 Timothy 2:15), we are led more easily into error. Although there are a variety of minor issues upon which Christians disagree, true doctrine is clearer than many imply. Second Peter 1:20 says that “no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation.” There is a right interpretation of everything God says, and it is our job to discern that meaning, not create an interpretation to suit our tastes. God wants us to know His heart and has given us His Word upon which we can build godly lives (see Matthew 7:24). The more we study true doctrine, the more we can stand on truth and not be lead astray but false teachers and doctrine of demons.
1 Timothy 4:1 King James Version (KJV)
4 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
1 John 4:1 - Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
Acts 17:11
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
Be like the bereans,See if what you are being taught Lines up with the scriptures. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you any deception or snare you are being lead into. Pray for discernment and ask God for wisdom and the Spirit of God will guide you into all truth
James 1:5 KJV
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

"Doctrine is your anchor to the truth". "We must be very careful as to what we are being taught." A lot in one post. The verses of Scripture are certainly true. However, note what Scripture says about "doctrine". (even just here in the op) .... Indicating a lot of "doctrine" is not true, is misleading, and leads many astray; e.g. "every wind of doctrine" .... Thus, having "doctrine" as an anchor is not through all Scripture safe thing to do. Another perhaps bigger warning: the anti-christ religions all claim the same thing: OUR DOCTRINE IS TRUTH, OUR DOCTINE IS AN ANCHOR. but it is how multitudes are easily led astray, willingly, daily, in the billions.

I think she clearly meant sound doctrine. You are right joseph, when you warn of the danger of being carried away with every wind of doctrine. The key to avoiding false doctrine is knowing the Bible.

The word doctrine just means something that is being taught. The key is that it be sound doctrine. That is why knowing your Bible is so important. If you have God's Word hidden in your heart, you will be quick to recognize something false. You will just reject it. The more you have read the Bible, the harder it will be to fool you.
Don't ever place too much trust in an individual. If they are telling you things that don't feel like what you have read in the Bible, go back and compare what they said to scripture. Look at the context of the verses. A lot of people take things out of context and build false doctrine that way. You can have a good minister go bad. They can sincerely be right now, and a heretic in 10 years. I have seen this occur first hand. Knowing your Bible will prevent you from being pulled down with them.
One other thing to consider is this. Are the things you are hearing the doctrines you would see if someone wasn't pushing them on you? If you never heard anyone tell you about the Bible, but only read it for yourself, would you come to the conclusions they are saying you should come to? We could ask this of a lot of doctrines. OSAS for instance. Would you really believe that your salvation is unconditional if you never heard a preacher tell you that, and all you did was read through the New Testament over and over? I wouldn't. Even all these pre-tribulation, mid-tribulation and post-tribulation theories? Would you have a definite opinion about when the Lord would return, had someone not told you when to look for him? The best I would have probably seen on my own is that Jesus will return one day, and we should be looking for him at all times. That is it. Seriously think about that. If it was just you and the Bible, how different would your opinion of things be than it is today?

The Bible has so much to digest that there are many things I wouldn't get if I had not heard about it from someone. I just don't grasp many things I feel like. But, if I am researching a particular question myself then I am able to come up with an answer from my readings usually. But, do see where you are coming from and it's absolutely correct. This is one reason that I am trying not to go to that Forum you all go to. I don't want to read a bunch of people's ideas on a bunch of stuff and even here I skip some things because my little pea brain can only absorb so much. I am tempted at times to go over there, but I restrain as I am just a babe in Christ I feel like.

Your issue isn't having a pea brain, but that you are really just getting started learning the scriptures. This is only your second time through the Bible, and that is far more than many will ever read. Even a lot of people that claim to have read the Bible all the way through never did so straight through. One person that claimed to have read the Bible all the way through admitted to me the other week he had only skimmed it once. You can't get it that way. You can't speed read through the Bible one time and really learn it. You can't do a Bible reading plan where you jump here and there through it and learn it.
We have the occasional crazy doctrine come in here at times, but far less than at some places because we are a bit more absolute in some areas than others will come out and admit to being. I don't just allow anything to be spread in here. But the thing that will protect you from false doctrine will be having the scriptures in your heart. You will recognize lies, more and more easily, as you continue to read the Bible. They will not be able to fool you. I can generally spot false doctrine right away. If it is really subtle, it might take me a little time to consider what I heard, but I will generally pick it up pretty quick, but that is from reading and re-reading the Bible.

I agree... I knew I heard the Lord tell me to read the Bible the year I started it. I really didn't know that I would become addicted to it...lol Since my memory has been so affected I feel like I don't remember as much as others, but I won't stop reading it because I don't want to be deceived anymore. And, honestly I don't know how deceived I have been. I am not sure what all I have been taught was wrong... I'm sure not all of it. But, the only way anyone can avoid being tricked is read for themselves. I get so worried about my mother because she just won't stay in the Word. I tell her she can be deceived without knowing what the Word says, for herself. She told me the other day that she thinks my brother is going to Heaven. He is a homosexual and doesn't even know if he believes there is a God. Well, that goes against everything I read. I told her he wasn't going to Heaven the way he is right now. He once accepted Jesus, but as you all know, that doesn't mean he is saved forever. But, he is her child and she does not want to believe the truth. So disturbs me but I was like her before I read it too. Lord, Help all people to discern the necessity for reading your Word!

People are going by their own wits and personal feelings, and that is dangerous. The only way your brother will get to heaven is if the blinders are taken off his eyes, he realizes he is in sin, repents, and comes to the Lord and turns to him with all his heart. He could do that. We just need to be praying for him, and your Mother too.

That is a good question. If it was just us, the Bible, and the Holy Spirit, and we never heard of any of the teachings of the RCC, the reformers, the teachers of our day, anyone, how much different would our understanding of things be than they are today? I need to give that some thought. I agree with you that we wouldn't come up with unconditional security if we just read through the New Testament. We would not come to the conclusion that the gifts have ceased. As you said, we would know Jesus is going to return, but we wouldn't have the entire time line figured out. A lot of the things we have been taught were developed, often times by teachers with a specific agenda, and they teach these things to young students in Seminaries. Thanks John. Once again, you have given me much to think about.

Along the same lines, if a person with no knowledge of Christianity were to be presented with a KJV Bible and nobody to explain what any of it meant, how different would their picture of Christians be compared to believers we see today? Just look around at the way we live? It doesn't even come close to resembling the picture of Christianity I get when I read the New Testament. Christians are swearing all the time, fornicating, their household is out of order, unqualified people are running churches. It is amazing when you think about it. This thread has really got me thinking about things!

One came to me just as I read what you said about your mother . Do you remember , dezi , where JESUS said HE who loves mother , father , daughter , son , husband , wife more than me IS not worthy of ME . So look at the danger your mother is in . She has chosen to ignore the true GOD , His own words which warn against sin , and she has chosen to invent a God that will simply let her own son into heaven in his own fallen state , without repentance . THAT GOD does not exist . Yet this is the god she is choosing at the time , because this god allows her son , into heaven as is . Many people and more so all the time are choosing this inclusive image of god , OVER THE BIBLCAL ONE . Paul , even warns that if one has NOT the SPIRIT of Christ they are none of HIS and if one has the SPIRIT the body is dead because o sin . THUS a true lamb is not going to be walking in willfull sin like that , a true lamb will not be a practicing homosexual . YET , todays peoples , many of them , are teaching otherwise . The best advice I can give , specially to newer ones , learn the new testament writings BIG TIME and as you are learning them , you can then also read some old testament . The best advice I can give . And just keep , keep reading it , the bible , all the time .

Christians are swearing all the time, fornicating, their household is out of order, unqualified people are running churches. It is amazing when you think about it. This thread has really got me thinking about things! My dear , dear friend , how true this is . I happen to know a man that had this very thing come upon Him . He was not raised in no church , he had no internet , yes as a child he had heard the gospel , but was no church goer . God , one day just flips that man around and puts him into ONE BOOK , THE KJV BIBLE . And drew that man to Christ and put a love of Truth , in that bible on his heart . And in it he remained , unctioned on by the grace of GOD to read it daily for hours . Some days up to eight hours , but usually around three to four hours . For the first five years , that man had just that bible . Then he got a computer . he still reads daily and loves it . BUT HOW RIGHT you are , that man is one odd creature to many who even profress to know JESUS . But when all we have is GOD and the pattern one learns over and over again IS the PATTERN IN that bible , Believe you me , having that pattern is gonna make one seem so strange to many . There approach towards sin and error will be far different than what we see today . And their desire will be unto the LORD and they will behold BOTH the goodness and severity of GOD . Imagine if we just read the bible and learned it for ourselves . How different our views would have been , on Osas , or pre , mid , post . I am not saying that true leaders , and such are not useful , what I am saying is , if folks would go back and read the bible for themselves not trusting in nor heeding the witty inventions of men , like Hermes and so forth , BUT rather TRUST IN GOD , PRAY TO HIM , ASK HIM for understanding and wisdom and do so from a heart that desires NO preeminence or to even look wise , but rather just because we want to learn to walk only more as we ought to , pleasing HIM THEN MANY FOLKS would grow wise . FOR GOD alone is able to give the wisdom , understanding and rightly divided understanding of the very scriptures HE HIMSELF inspired . Folks we would see a fat healthy church . My advice is learn those bibles well . And we shall unlearn the wrongs that men have taught , BY LEARNING IT THE RIGHT WAY by HIS SPIRIT . Now of course lambs help lambs along the way and of course we still have pastors , bishops and deacons . But we sure can read the bible ON OUR OWN and TRUST IN GOD to give us understanding . We then are to test all things that any man does teach . And the key will always be , as paul once said , all stewards should be tested . Never stop testing anyone who teaches , nor any word that man does say I have come to the upmost conclusion that GOD alone can only be trusted and that while there still may be some who do teach sound pure truth , EVEN THEY are but a man , that is capable of error and thus must always be tested . YET GOD , HE CAN ALWAYS BE TRUSTED .

A-men Dezi.
The repent word sure is hated In this generation . BUT LET us look at our own conversion . I used to wallow in sin and loved it , I practiced almost every sin , cept maybe homosexuality , and I loved it . THEN the Grace of GOD appeared , THEN the marvelous Grace of GOD appeared and drew me to CHRIST and put me in That bible . But what else occurred , GOD had put the desire of doing good into my heart , GOD had flipped my entire conscious around by putting HIS LOVE for HE above all , which means I now LOVED HIS TRUTH . And the old man and his desires , FLED . It was in an instant that my whole desires changed . THIS did not nor does not mean that sin was not present in my flesh any longer , IT was , but what did happen was the more GOD worked on me by His SPIRIT and HIS WORDS in that bible the more I seen it as extremely sinful. many sins I had not even seen as wrong , BECAME SO WRONG and vile and evil in my own site . THAT was the WORKING of GOD , which comes unto lambs WHOSE FAITH has been placed IN JESUS CHRIST ALONE . Even the scriptures , coupled WITH HIS SPIRIT , led me into a place where I had no choice but to CRY OUT from the whole heart , LORD save me from even the evils of my own flesh . IT was the grace of GOD truly drawing me to a total dependence on CHRIST for any kind of hope or salvation or way out of any sin . GOD DID THAT . HE DID . But here is the thing this generation is also so in large blind to , THEY have no idea what really hardens a heart . HOW can a lamb start out so right by and in grace and then fall. SIN . SIN WILL and I do mean IN TIME IT WILL HARDEN THAT HEART . IT WILL DO IT . THAT is why folks fall away , THAT is why JESUS so often warned about NOT continuing in sin , or Paul would say exhort daily lest YE DO become hardended THROUGH the deceitfulness of sin . FOLKS today have no idea that sin will harden that heart , cause they think its impossible to fall away . Many doctrines have men , have caused the churches to grow only worse . Teach a man to behold both the goodness and severity of GOD and that is what they will learn and that pattern will keep them wise not to do error , wise to cling to GOD for all help , wise to know we must endure faithful to the end , wise to work that salvation out through fear and trembling . IT will make the wise to keep correcting any who does err , to build the church up , to fight the true fight , to die daily , to cling to Christ for all aide , all help . But many teach not the severity of GOD and thus teach a goodness not even compatible WITH GOD . IF we do not behold BOTH the goodness and severity of GOD , look out . DID NOT even paul talk greatly of the goodness of GOD , YET he warned out about the severity of GOD TOO . LOOK how he warned that church and said , DONT BE like that , done take one to court , DO You not know that the unrighteous WILL NOT inherit the kingdom of GOD . DID not jude warn about what happens IF WE KEEP NOT our first estate , and he used the examples of angels and of israel and so forth . DID not peter warn about what happens if one returns to the pit and is overcome and how the latter end will be even worse . FOLKS we need TO BOTH SPEAK and BEHOLD on BOTH THE GOODNESS and SEVERITY OF GOD . and another great example IS FOUND in the very message to the seven churches . ONE can sum it up likethis , CONTINUE IN CHRIST or else , CONTINUE IN THE GOODNESS OF GOD , or else , , REPENT if one does err, OR ELSE . AND let us know and understand , so as not to be wise in our own eyes , THAT THIS TOO is simply the SPIRIT of GOD at work in us , WHICH DOES Unction us to do the good and not the evil . It is the goodness of GOD that even led us to repentance . BUT we , by the SPIRIT would remain TEACHING the same first PATTERN given us IN THE BIBLE for all things . ITSWHAT the SPRIIT DOES , KEEPS US FOCUSED ON WHAT JESUS TAUGHT and we KNOW now by grace , THAT what the apostels taught , WAS WHAT JESUS TAUGHT , they taught NO CONTRADICTIONS TO HIM , THEY TAUGHT HIM ,BY THE SPIRIIT . WE NEED , OH DEAR HOW WE NEED to return to JUST the original and pure pattern JESUS FIRST TAUGHT and the apostels would later teach and write .

You can't on your own decide to repent of not believing and magically have faith. If you believe however, that faith will lead you to repent of your sinful lifestyle to obey God. Biblical repentance is about obedience, not belief. Belief leads us to obey.

You can't on your own decide to repent of not believing and magically have faith. If you believe however, that faith will lead you to repent of your sinful lifestyle to obey God. Biblical repentance is about obedience, not belief. Belief leads us to obey. Many do twist this word. Yet in truth we know it was GOD alone who even led us to repent of all our evils . A stronger saying is , LOVE is about Obediance . FOR who we love , what we love is what we obey and do . The proof of our love is not in words alone , but in deed and in action . Do our actions match our words . For a man can say , I LOVE JESUS , OH I LOVE HIM . But do they really have that love , if they can willfully omit and twist things HE has said . Does a man really love what he wont do . Does a man really love TRUTH . IF we truly have HIS LOVE in our hearts , then we LOVE HIM above everything and everyone . And His sayings are not grieveious , rather they are embrace , loved , done , with JOY . Truly happy is the one who hears and does HIS sayings . They have been planted BY THE LORD . They have been planted by the FATHER and HONOR the SON thus HONORING the FATHER WHO SENT HIM . Unbelief IS SIN . Ye shall die in your sins , IF you believe not that I am HE . But do notice something , JESUS also says to those who BELEIVED on HIM , IF you continue in ME the truth shall set you free . Repentance is GOD given , as you KNOW already , I say this to remind us though . I know many men twist this or that , they come with part truth and then part lie . which makes it deadly . Example . I could say the exact gospel all day , and yet am I saved if I am still In darkness loving sin . NOPE . its head knowledge only . SEE many people are in grave danger . THEY sure love the fact that JESUS saves , YET don't LOVE HIM . and I tell you these are not saved either .
