I asked God to help make my grocery run a success.
He suggested I buy in bulk. Not only did I complete my list, but I was able to get multiple times more food and house supplies.
Usually I'd be able to get two lemons, three limes, an onion, a few meats, four avocados, etc with my budget.
But by looking at price per ounce and buying in bulk, I got bags full of all those items and just more than I could have imagined.
The Lord truly blessed me by showing me this. I was basically getting robbed every week by purchasing small and individual amounts.

That is wonderful. Is there a particular wholesale supplier that you went to?

That is wonderful. Is there a particular wholesale supplier that you went to? I went to Walmart. I will try Food Lion, a local chain, next week. I suppose you mean a store like Sam's club or Costco but there isn't one nearby. Let's say there are potatoes for 88 cents each and a 5 lb bag for 3.42. Normally, I'd buy three 88 cent potatoes, paying tax on each. So about $3. But the 5lb bag has a lot more potatoes. So now I have two weeks worth of potatoes rather than one meal's worth. I got a 10 lb bag of chicken, a 5 lb bag of Jasmine rice, and 5 lbs of ground beef. I got so much more food than usual. It was insane.

I was basically getting robbed every week by purchasing small and individual amounts. For a long time now, I have been doing the grocery shopping each week, mainly because my wife is not in real good health. I try to check everything when it comes to what I buy, because things are so expensive. I try to compare how much I will save to buy more of something, as opposed to a smaller amount, and also figure if it will keep until I use it. I do not want things to spoil. That defeats the purpose. I generally buy things like bathroom tissue in larger quantities, and keep in mind the number of sheets per roll. I always try to go with the ones with 1000 sheets.
One thing to keep in mind is, there are rare exceptions where buying more costs you more. As crazy as that sounds, it does happen in some instances. I have even seen this when I was purchasing food out. I will notice that the best deal is a smaller order. I rarely get this anymore, because I am calorie conscious, but just for an example, there was a time where the best deal on a Wendy's Frosty was the small size. If you wanted a large frosty, you were better off getting 2 small ones. You got more overall for less. The large one was 2.39 and 2 small ones were 2.00. It didn't show you the ounces, but you knew how much you were getting by the fact they had to list the calories. All you had to do was see that 2 small ones added up to more calories than one large one. When it comes to figuring out the best deals, you need to check out a lot of things, but the more you do it, the easier it will become.

At grocery stores, you can usually check the value per ounce on the label. The best value isn't necessarily the biggest one.

Tabitha3319, I wanted to mention that my wife did try out what you suggested about buying items in bulk, and she said it did save her a little money. It didn't save her so much this week, but it should save over the long run. She didn't do it on some things, because certain food items would spoil, but where it was practical she bought in bulk. That was at the local Wal-Mart. I almost forgot to mention it till I saw your post about going to Good Will.

The cheap items are at the bottom or the top. Also, many times generic and name brand products are made in the same factory.
