Plenty of topics to cover to keep the spirit moving and not get stuck in muddy waters.
Can anyone please explain?
Matthew 10:40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
Matthew 10:41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.
Matthew 10:42 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
What was Jesus trying to tell us? What is the difference between a righteous man's reward, and a prophets reward?

Works are not a prerequisite for rewards. Works are something that go onto a foundation. Works have nothing to do with salvation. The score-card is always going to be imperfect, The Lord expects this. We suffer loss and and also we gain rewards. We can never merit by 'works' a place in the kingdom. But we might be useful to the Lord, depending on His judgement. We need to encourage each other to examine ourselves. Onesiphorus ministered to Saul. The name means 'profit'. He helped and supported Saul (Paul). Elijah and the woman is another example of a prophet's reward. Her son was revived and lived and she did not run out of oil or meal. She gave everything to the prophet, and the prophet rewarded her. She received the prophet and the prophet blessed her. She got the prophet's reward.

Jesus is the one coming with his reward.
Matthew 16:27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
Luke 6:23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.
Luke 6:35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
1 Corinthians 3:8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
1 Corinthians 3:14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
Colossians 3:24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
1 Timothy 5:18 For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.
Hebrews 10:35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
2 John 1:8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
Revelation 11:18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
Revelation 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

2 Timothy 2:20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
Not everyone's labours are the same, although everyone receives salvation, some will shine brighter than others in the kingdom when the reward is given.
Just like the stars, all are precious, but some have more light in them than others.

Bless you Sister, amen....and Jesus really is the righteous man and prophet being spoken of, who when we receive Him, we also receive His reward/inheritance as our reward. And in this way, He Himself is our very great reward.
Gen 15:1
After this, the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward."

What was Jesus trying to tell us? What is the difference between a righteous man's reward, and a prophets reward? Look at the last line . its the same reward . Even the one who gives a cup only in the name of a decisple , SHALL IN NO WAY LOSE HIS REWARD . I know also that some have more talents and get larger rewards . I know that too. but in this case , JESUS is making the point to simply DO GOOD unto the brethren .

Our reward WILL BE the resurrection NOT of the unjust but of the JUST . AND again that is summed up by WHO we followed , it shows WHOSE we truly were .

Works are ONLY EVIDENCE of WHO is TRULY IN US and WHO we FOLLOW . Faith without works IS DEAD . And works actually Perfect faith . ITS ALL about this one word . OBEDIANCE . Are we going to OBEY the SPIRIT or RESIST the SPIRIT . man condemns himself .

I think that what this is saying is that when we do things to aid God's servants, we will share in their rewards. We are not all prophets, but when we do things to help a prophet fulfil his or her ministry, we receive the reward of a prophet. We are not all apostles, but when we help support missionaries so they can take the gospel to the world, we share in their reward. I believe that is the main point Jesus is making.
