I noticed that the Bible keeps saying that the kings of Israel kept doing after the sins of Jeroboam. What is it talking about?

I'm looking at 1 Kings 13
It appears King Jeriboam was burning incense by the altar in the Temple of God.
God told him not to eat or drink in there. But a false prophet lied and told him to eat and drink God punished Jeriboam for disobedience.
At least that's what I'm getting so far.

Jeroboam was the first king in Israel after the nation split, and he started calf worship. He was afraid that if the people went to worship in Jerusalem, it would cause them to go back under Reheboam, and he would be slain. Every king that followed left the calf worship in place.

I think this is more the root of things. After the kingdom split, you can't find one good king in Israel. This was a big part of the reason. Judah had some good kings.
