thats an peculiar way it words "exercise thyself unto Godliness" lets take a closer look:

this word is telling us to train ourselves in Godliness. in other texts this same word is found used in the context of the training an athlete would endure in a gymnasium. and please do compare gymnasium and gumnazo by appearance, they are similar, are they not? Did you also know there are various words in the bible that tell us to train ourselves/others/even our children?
are you asking God for the gift of patience?
are you asking God for the gift of holiness?
are you just expecting this things to manifest by His Spirit in you? well freind i hate to rain on your parade, but those prayers will not be answered. you must train yourself. by practice and working hard is how you will gain disciple ship.

if you want to walk uprightly, if you want to be holy even as He Is HOLY if you... oh if you want to be close to God... you must train yourselves. this does mean work at living(zao) Godly.
there are so many scriptures that show us to train ourselves. do you know of any? wont you post them? let this thread be all about our responsibility to being a living sacrifice, to living Godly... but how to get there by training. please, post any verses you know. i could just list a bunch but i want to draw out of each of you what you know.
