We need all of God's word. Not just one side or the other. A church that is coddled on only the milk of the word long past when they should have been growing and maturing, falls asleep and backslides, as we're seeing in spades in the west today. But there is a ditch on the other side of the road too, and we need to avoid both ditches in my opinion.

Most people have struggles and sometimes fail. God know our heart, and if we are sincerely trying to live right. 1 John 1:9 makes it clear that if we confess our sins to the Lord, He will forgive us. It is about what is in our heart. I understand struggles people face, but this is about what the Bible teaches. The question is, does the Bible teach unconditional security? I do not believe that it does. OSAS seems to be the result of human reasoning that this must be the case because nobody can be saved without it. That is not true, but some have come to that conclusion. This thread is to discuss whether or not the Bible teaches conditional security or unconditional security.
I was a member of a message board for years, where the guy running it claims to believe in the inerrancy of scripture, and he also teaches OSAS. One time, in a moment of frustration, he said, "If we go by what the Bible says, nobody would be saved." This kind of mindset is what drives people to teach OSAS. The Bible teaches us to trust in Jesus and follow him, which includes the teachings of the Bible. If we do our best, and confess our sins when we stumble, we will be saved. That is conditional security. This is easily proven in the Bible, but those teaching OSAS do not argue using scripture, except for referencing a handful of verses out of context. They use human reasoning to try to prove that without OSAS, nobody can be saved.

Sin hardens the heart . END it before it ends you . We must take this far more serious than this geneartion does . Paul did not lie when he wrote , Exhort one another daily , lest any of you does become hardened by the deceifulness of sin . The church has weapons . most folks forget this . That man was put out of the church , delivered unto satan for destruction of the flesh . Folks the purpose is so that the soul may be saved in the day of the LORD . Thus the next time that lust or sin enters your mind , REMEMBER some of us shall pray unto the LORD for destruction of the flesh . IF ye would judge yourselves you would not be judged , BUT when we are chastend of the LORD it is so that we wont be condmened with the world . The church has weapons that can be used for the good . Even destruction of the flesh . Dominic let us cease the lust of sin . I know lust enters into our minds , THAT will happen . For our flesh is evil . BUT DONT BE A SLAVE TO IT ANY LONGER MY FRIEND . Cause if true ones pray to GOD for the good of your soul , DO You realize you might suffer something very serious in the flesh . I say lets get serious . We all have evil within the flesh . I say its time we no longer heed the evil that pops into our minds . AND if we all pray together for one another and do the things the early church did for correction . WELL that will keep one safe .

God knows what each soul needs and He is working all things together for our good. Paying too much attention to sin and our self-effort can make things worse....since the strength of sin is the Law. It might be better in some instances to look away from the sin and self and pay it no never mind so to speak, looking away from all that to Jesus instead.....the Author and Finisher of our faith. Focusing on Him and looking to Him to deal with what we're struggling with, because having begun in the Spirit, we're not now going to be perfected by the flesh.
Found this out when I was struggling with something. Watched it all unfold with me exactly as those scriptures say. I was letting self- condemnation and self-consciousness of sin drive me away from God instead of to Him for the help I needed. Like Adam and Eve hiding from God after eating from what..? Tree of KNOWLEDGE of good and evil. The more I struggled the worse things got. Once I cottoned on to the wiles of the devil, with the help of God's word, and just let go and gave my problem over to God to deal with, and put the whole thing on a back burner and stopped trying to struggle myself and pretty much forgot about it all, one day it just dawned on me, hey, the problem is no longer a problem. Just no longer an issue...gone without even a poof. But God knows what will work for each individual and their circumstance, He's not short on methods and His wisdom is manifold, and sometimes in some circumstances it might be better to be more Christ-conscious than sin-conscious, otherwise we can be giving more power to the devil.
Just a plain fact that some things are too much for us to deal with on our own. I picture a little child walking down the road with his father and the child sees a huge dog not looking too friendly approaching on his side. That child knows he's in trouble.....but rather than trying to deal with the dog that is bigger than him, he turns from looking at the dog and fixes his eyes on his father and says, "Uh, Dad....?" Dad says, now just get behind me son, and he calmly lifts the baseball bat he is carrying..... End of story, heh. The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run into it and are kept safe.

It's quite mysterious how the letter of the Law locks one into bondage, but it does. As though it makes the devil and sin loom larger and stronger when our attention and focus is on that instead of on Jesus. It's a falling away from grace in whatever area one is battling with, back into the slavery of Egypt....Hagar the Egyptian slave is likened to the city that is below in bondage with her children. Staying in the grace and mercy of our Lord is key, or battling one's way back to it, because under grace sin doesn't have dominion over us....I think it might be because being under grace is being in the Spirit. Submitting/yielding to the righteousness of Christ when we hand the problem over to Him and don't even look back at it.

watchful , as a Christian, the last thing we need to do is make light of our sins because we seemingly cannot stop sinning. Running away from the Father and Jesus out of being ashamed is not the solution either. If we are truly a Christian, we will feel terrible conviction when we do wrong, and that is from God. What we need to do is make daily confession to the Lord, and seek not only forgiveness, but deliverance. Sweeping it under the rug or ignoring sin because we do not want to be under the law is not the way to go. Be honest with ourselves and God, and seek him diligently till deliverance comes.
Sometimes we are not really in bondage to a sin at all, but we are under demonic oppression, and that will occur repeatedly, like Paul's thorn in the flesh. Like with Paul, God's grace is sufficient, but not in that we can just give into temptation without fear, but in that God will help us resist and overcome. If we are falling into the same sins repeatedly, acting like it is not that big a deal because of grace is not the solution. Resisting the devil and seeking God each day is the way we are going to overcome sin. The wages of sins was hell under the law and is still hell today.

The Bible does not teach that salvation is unconditional and "faith plus nothing," as many false teachers claim. It is conditional. We must be overcomers to enter into eternal life. Notice what it says in Revelation 21:8.
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
If salvation was unconditional, and it were "faith plus nothing," it contradicts this scripture, because there are many things mentioned here that will lead anyone into eternal punishment. If anyone is a sorcerer or idolater, they will not enter heaven, including Christians. The same thing applies to liars. There are some who keep saying how God hates those who sow discord, but the same list speaks of God's hatred for a false witness, which is a liar. That will keep you out of heaven, even if you believe in Jesus. The Bible simply does not teach unconditional eternal security.

Certainly agree brother...making light of God or taking our sins lightly is not what I'm talking about, and I'd be among the last to suggest such a thing. It's about where we need to put our focus and reliance if we are in a battle. The strength of sin is the Law....that is bible truth. Who will deliver me from this body of death....thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord, and there is therefore no condemnation for those who walk not after the flesh (including self-effort) but after the spirit. God's word. Through Jesus, by His Spirit. Instead of dwelling on the sin, we can put our focus and reliance on the Lord instead....fix our eyes on Jesus, not on the sin.....give the problem over to Him, keep going and don't dwell on or keep looking back at the sin (Lot's wife)....in other words, having put it in God's hands so leave it there. Be STILL, ie, stop struggling ourselves and give it to the Lord, and know that He is God....His strength made perfect in our weakness. Anyway that is my testimony of how the Lord specifically helped me with something, in case it's helpful for anyone. He may use other means for other folks with other kinds of problems. And just to say there is a difference between willful sins and a bondage. Some battles take longer for the breakthrough to come, but in the end God can even use someone's greatest area of weakness to turn it around and make it their greatest strength.

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw night to God, and he will draw night to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts ye double minded.
This all requires self-effort. Resisting and cleansing our hands are things we do, and that is not walking after the flesh. I realize this is a difficult subject to fully understand, because on the one side are people trying to save themselves apart from Jesus with good works, and on the other side are people following the "faith plus nothing" heresy. The truth is in the middle. It is about abstaining from earthly lusts and doing good works because of faith in Christ and believing the teachings in the Bible, along with it's warnings.

Take heed unto thyself and unto the docrtrine . Todays church is condemning those who actually are fully persauded to cease sin , as though those are not relying on GOD . Wrong . THEY are . ITS THE SPIRIT ITSELF that is unctioning the lambs to cease the sin , and to exhort one another , and to warn against sin and to correct sin . Today many no longer even know what it means to FOLLOW the SPIRIT . Cause any action on our part is deemed wrong and false . YET again i say ITS THE SPIRIT that even unctions me to make an all out effort to not sin , to avoid evil and to remind others to do the same . THEY ARE DESTROYING the very weapons of the church . NO , more than ever we need to be fully persauded , make an all effort that we are not going to do evil . That we are gonna live holy and heed the Spirit and deny the flesh . Folks act like serious grave reminders are wrong . They even act like correcting another in sin is wrong . YET ITS THE SPIRIT that is doing the work amongst the true lambs that do warn . That do say GO and sin no more , THAT DO say LET IT NOT once be named . THEY follow another spirit . THE ONE which says OH take it easy , LET GO and let GOD , Dont judge dont warn , dont be so serious , dont be grave . RATHER ODD that paul himself wrote to titus and to timothy and another place saying HOW folks , how leaders , how even wives should be AND I SAW the WORD GRAVE in all of it . BE SERIOUS , BE GRAVE , WORK that salvation out , HEED the SPIRIT , FLEE all evil , LET IT NOT once be named . SHOULD BE IN OUR VOCABOLARY YET ITS GONE in todays folks . TAKE HEED unto thyself and the doctrine , OUGHT to be in our speeches . LOOK how serious paul was to the corinthian church about sin . WE have weapons , but if the church wont use them and instead thinks they are judgemental , NO WONDER THE CHURCHES FELL . NO SIRS and NO MAMS . I say DOUBLE DOWN ON ALL BIBLE REMINDERS .

If it's "no longer I who live but Christ who lives in me", then it must be by grace that we are resisting the devil...though since it generally comes naturally to our new nature it might seem to be our own effort at times. (except in cases where a bondage/stronghold has taken hold...that is more difficult) I don't believe the 'faith plus nothing' concept for our walk either brother, amen. It was a free gift in the beginning, but then we start "buying" more oil for our lamps, ie, paying the price for it, in the manner that Jesus meant when He said to count the cost. (And want to add that ignoring the devil isn't taking him lightly, since it seems that is being misunderstood.....it's one way to resist him and put him under our feet. If a foolish thought comes into our head, we can ignore it by grace instead of heeding or entertaining it. To pay it too much attention does the opposite of putting it under our feet, it gives it more power over us...WE give it more power by paying it attention.)

BEHOLD, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. Whosoever committeth sin transgesseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
Notice that this passage states that sin is the transgression of the law, and those who abide in Christ do not sin. Those who have their hope in Christ purify themselves. Those who are not righteous in their behavior are not of God. This is about things we do and choices we make, and it involves not breaking God's laws. It also speaks to the fact we have a new nature.
