We have to stop approaching the word with our own pre defense mechanism, and have to receive it for what it is saying, and then let that become our defense. There are two approaches to how we view the Word . Many , who by carnal minds , will have a mindset which will alter the word to suit an idea in their own head . They change the meaning to suit their own minds thought and how it sees things . Then there are lil lambs , who see the word , and allow the SPIRIT by the word to transform their thinking into the TRUTH of the word . We must never change the word , Let the WORD change us . Amen!!!

I find a couple of ways people approach scripture. Some start with a belief system, and then they go through the Bible to find anything they can to make it agree with their beliefs. Others do as I try to do. They simply look to the Bible for truth, and genuinely seek to get the correct, intended meaning, and accept it wherever it may lead. I never start out with the thought that "I can never believe in a God who does this or teaches that." I do not seek to make God into an image I created for Him.

If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever shall save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. Matthew 16:24-27 The Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation WATCHMAN NEE Christian Fellowship Publishers, Inc. New York Copyright ©1980 Christian Fellowship Publishers, Inc. New York All Rights Reserved ISBN 0-935008-48-9 excerpt: (whole pdf free available online/offline) (words may be changed without being aware - if in doubt, check the original book) ... ... ... "Did I believe in God? I did. Did I know Him? I honestly did not know if I knew Him. I needed the aid of many reasons and doctrines to protect my faith. I felt safe and could even talk with others so long as my reasons were logical and my doctrines were sound. I needed mental assistance in my Christian life. But today I can testify that I am no longer that way. Today I can say I know my God. I no longer require mental aids for support: I do not need outward evidence to protect my inward faith.” What this Christian has said is what truly knowing God is. Such knowledge comes from revelation: not because the doctrine is good, The Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation pg 11 but because you know it inwardly by revelation. It is different from the kind of knowing which you had immediately subsequent to the moment of being saved. For at that time you felt your knowledge had to be handled with the utmost of care out of fear lest it be damaged in some way or even be lost. For many people, their faith in the Lord Jesus is dependent continually upon their having to walk carefully: they are always afraid of hearing anything different which might overturn their knowledge of God. But one day God gives them revelation. They begin to know Him inwardly because they have truly seen Him; and all problems are solved. " ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ i.e. when abiding in Jesus, completely resting, set upon Him, working all things daily in Him with all one's strength and effort and will and willingness, HE keeps our minds in PERFECT PEACE - unshakeable. Guarded by a STRONG FORTRESS, by YAHWEH THE ALMIGHTY, by HIS WORD.

I would have to give a genuine amen to that.

And every now and again, I tend to get a certain pricking in my heart concerning such and such, and many times I found out that it is in the bible, and that, what I was feeling, was indeed of the Holy Ghost.
The bible shows that he quickens us, he pricks us, and convicts us, and when he truly does, he will always point to something that is biblical.

Very good john . And that is the beauty of it . since i was raised nor brought up in any church i never learned all that stuff some teach . But by grace my approach to that bible was to learn , loving it . No preconcieved ideas , JUST the beauty of the WORD by the power of the SPIRIT , burning out of my mind carnality reasoning and replacing it with wonderous pure unadulterated TRUTH . OH it was and it IS a beauty . Our appraoch to the WORD should be exactly that , reveal truth , not to ever find what agrees with our so called truth wethink is truth . You are correct my friend . Indeed . NOW HANDS UP , i hears a PRAISE FEST TO THE KING .

HE WILL ALWAYS POINT to something BIBLICAL . In fact if any spirit , a thought , a man or anything comes and points to something anti biblical , something contrary to sound doctrine , REST ASSURED its a LIAR .

You've given me a lot to think about. Hard preaching, but true. This is an interesting thread, that I just came upon. It does force us all to consider how worldly minded we are without realizing it.

Start reading it, as if it were the first time, without commentaries and the opinions of man to cloud our thinking. Then believe and receive.

They do that with the Bible and Jesus. They bend and shape them into their own image instead of the other way around.

Amen! The Lord's words endure forever: "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever." (Hebrews 13:8)
The Lord leads me where I need to go in the scriptures when He convicts me in such a manner, Giller. I wrote elsewhere that the Lord has commanded me to read specific books of scripture, teaching me to do so in prayer (Job was the first). I'm in the book of Revelation at this time... so many erroneously believe that Revelation is terrifying, in effect becoming "the revelation of the Beast!" Perhaps it's that way due to the conviction of some who read this book, which is a blessing from God if they grasp the ramifications of the following verse:
Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand. (Revelation 1:3)
The Lord convicted me of this, asking me why am I so afraid? Like frienduff, I wasn't indoctrinated in the churches and yet the errors and false teachings of this world's churches concerning Revelation still found their way into my mind. The Lord is faithful to cleanse us, sanctify us, and instruct us in His word. Revelation is wonderful beyond words because that book is the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ! It's exciting to read.
