I recently finished reading the book of Job, and wondered if this was a real man or a kind of parable? What do you all think? Do you think that the devil goes to God accusing us, and then we get tested?

I believe Job was a real person and most likely the devil still accuses us to God and some trials we go through are a result of it

i believe it was a real story. SCRIPTURE says that the devil accuses the brethren. also Jesus gave us the parable of the widow before an unrighteous judge (not saying God is unrighteous) The Kingdom of Heaven is like a court setting. many Scripture like in the Psalms talks of the courts of heaven. I believe that Job allowed the door to be opened for satan to try him because it says in Scripture he was fearful that his children may have sinned against God. fear hath torment, this allowed the devil an open door. we are not to be fearful. Now this is different than Job being a righteous man cuz Scripture says he was righteous.

Why did you read it ?

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
This includes the book of Job.

Yes, but personally why do you read Scripture ? (same question to the OP) etc ....
Do you think that in reading Scripture you can find life ?

That's an odd question. I've read Job, while reading straight through the Bible. There are several reading straight through right now, and we are in Psalms.

For the Word of God is quick and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing dividing asunder of soul and spirit and of joints and marrow, and is a DISCERNER OF THE THOUGHTS AND INTENTS OF THE HEART.
JESUS IS THE WORD. HE BECAME FLESH... IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW JESUS FOR HE IS THE AUTHOR AND FINISHER OF OUR FAITH.

I recently finished reading the book of Job, and wondered if this was a real man or a kind of parable? What do you all think? Do you think that the devil goes to God accusing us, and then we get tested? Job was the first book I read after I was born again, Rejoice. There's no question that Job is a real man but his story also serves as a parable: yes, even the righteous suffer in this world. This stands in opposition to the "good times" gospel preached by many in this day and age: "if troubles befall you then something is amiss!"
Note that's what Job's friends thought as well. Ah, but the Lord tells us the truth throughout: Job didn't sin even when he lost everything. Job never blamed God, proclaiming "Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord." (Job 1:21)
We're tested and refined by God as the scriptures remind us (see Zechariah 13), something which occurs with or without the railing accusations of the evil one, my friend. As to the reason why? Let the scriptures answer this question for us:
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8-9)

The scriptures contain the words of life.

What Walker said was right on the money, all he did was mention scripture, so since you are asking different people why they read scripture, then I will ask you why do you read scripture? Do you find it important to read the book of Job, and what are you into?

Rejoice can certainly answer for herself, but I know the answer to that question. We started reading through the Bible as a group back in December, with the intention of finishing by December of this year, and Rejoice said she planned to read with us. If she just finished up Job, that would be about right, because we are reading in Psalms now. I realize there are not that many people that faithfully read the Bible, but I know a lot of people that have read Job, and are very familiar with the story. Why would it be strange to you that she would read it?

WE know JESUS was not against the reading of scripture . HE said this , cause though they did read scripture , WHY did they really read it . they read it to look wise and in truth they actually omitted stuff and replaced truth with their own precepts . SOUNDS LIKE TODAY man . We read scripture , FOR GOD has put that LOVE INTO OUR HEARTS . and the scripture indeed does make one wise unto salvation THROUGH , yes THROUGH FAITH IN CHRIST . BIBLES OPEN . read and LOVE IT .

To reinforce that answer, here are the words of the Lord:
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. (Matthew 4:4)
