What does it mean when we say that something is inerrant? It means by definition, incapable of being wrong. For those of you who claim to believe in inerrancy of scripture, let that sink in a bit. Do you really see the Bible is incapable of being wrong?
Based on things I have witnessed, I have come to the conclusion that it is just fashionable to claim to believe in inerrancy of scripture, but not really believe it. Why would I say that? Because of the ways people try to get around believing and following it. Let me give you a few examples.
Ever heard someone say that those scriptures about hair length were only cultural, and only applied to the day and time they were written? Ever heard women claim that those scriptures about wives submitting themselves to their husbands or that showed gender roles were the product of bias by the writers at a time when women were looked at as chattel? These people do not believe in inerrancy of scripture. Their words show that is true.
Here is another way people reject the Bible as perfect. One guy said to me it is inspired, but God allowed them to speak in their own way, and sometimes their own feelings got in the mix. He said it was not like dictation, where it was word for word from God. This man does not believe in inerrancy of scripture.
When confronted about the Bible coming against OSAS, one person exclaimed that if we go by what the Bible says, nobody would be saved. This guy either believes one of two things. Either he believes in inerrancy of scripture, and that means nobody will be saved, or he rejects inerrancy of scripture.
Words have meaning. Words have real definitions. The definition of inerrant is incapable of being wrong. When we at Narrow Way say the Bible is inerrant, we mean it in the most literal of senses. If you want to understand us, that is the starting point.
