Many people question why we strive to walk holy (as Scripture command us) and many accuse us of: Working to be saved.
In short, they mean that we do not trust in Christ but rather in our works to be saved.
Well, it is not true that we trust in our works. We trust in Christ, and in His blood.
First, because there is no other thing that can truly cleanses us from our sin.
We believe the only way is Jesus Christ.
❝whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness,
because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed...❞ - Romans 3:25
Now, I will explain why we walk in the light and have pleasure in doing so.
When we walk in sin, we walk in darkness, and I believe we all can agree with this.
And as it is written:
❝If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.❞ - 1 John 1:6
As you can see, if we say we have fellowship with Jesus and walk in darkness (sin), we lie and do not practice the truth.
Walking in darkness can also be thought as walking according to the flesh.
❝Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are:
adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions,
jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness,
revelries, and the like...❞ - Galatians 5:19-21
Those are all works of darkness.
No one who has a genuine (or active) fellowship with the Lord is practicing those things.
❝...which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past,
that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.❞ - Galatians 5:21
And this is why we, who have fellowship with the Lord Jesus, must walk in the light:
❝But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.❞ - 1 John 1:6-7
Note that it says: as He is in the light. Then we conclude that:
❝He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.❞ - 1 John 2:6
And what happens if we do not abide in Him?! The answer is:
❝If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered;
and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.❞ - John 15:6
Finally, talking about this verse again:
❝But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.❞ - 1 John 1:6-7
It says that, if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with Him and the blood of Jesus cleanses from ALL sin.
We can see there is a condition in order to be cleansed by His blood: We have to walk in the light.
And it agrees with the following verse:
❝to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God,
that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’❞ - Acts 26:18
But what is the light?!
If when we walk according to the flesh we walk in darkness,
then we can conclude that if we walk in the Spirit we walk in the light, in His light.
❝Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.❞ - 2 Corinthians 3:17
❝I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.❞ - Galatians 5:16
The fruits of the Spirit is of the light:
❝But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
Against such there is no law.❞ - Galatians 5:22-23
❝...for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth...❞ - Ephesians 5:9
May the Lord bless you in Jesus' name!
