Sister versesJoh 2:13-19
(13) And the Jews' passover was at hand, and
Jesus went up to Jerusalem,
(14) And
found in the temple those that
sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:(15) And when he had
made a scourge of small cords, he
drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and
poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;
(16) And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence;
make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.
(17) And his disciples remembered that it was written,
The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
(18) Then answered the Jews and said unto him,
What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?
(19) Jesus answered and said unto them,
Destroy this temple, and in
three days I will raise it up.
Now in my E-Sword bible, it gives the title of "
Jesus Cleanses the Temple", just before verse 13.
Now what did Jesus do in the temple?
He poured out the changer's money, and overthrew the tables, and in essence cleansed the temple, from what they were doing.
An Jesus said "
make not my Father's house and house of merchandise".
Now Jesus may have done this a few times, and here is another account concerning Jesus cleansing the temple in a like manner, and this is what it says:
Mat 21:12-14
(12) And
Jesus went into the temple of God, and
cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,
(13) And said unto them, It is written,
My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.
(14) And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.
There are other similar accounts in Luke 19:46, and Mark 11:17, and I do not know how many of these accounts may be the exact same as the John account, but just showing different aspects of it, but it seems that some accounts may be different.
But here Jesus says, "
my house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves"
Now it has always been God's will that his house be a house of prayer, but is there a prophetic aspect to when God's house will totally become a house of prayer, and that to all nations?
Yes.
Isa 56:7
(7) Even them
will I bring to my holy mountain, and
make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and
their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar;
for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.
This will take place during the millennial reign of Christ.
So there is a prophetic aspect to when his house shall completely
become a house of prayer.
Now let us get back to our main verses:
Joh 2:13-19
(13) And the Jews' passover was at hand, and
Jesus went up to Jerusalem,
(14) And
found in the temple those that
sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:(15) And when he had
made a scourge of small cords, he
drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and
poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;
(16) And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence;
make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.
So Jesus cleanses the temple, and then the Jews say unto him: "
What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?"
So they were asking him a question regarding to what Jesus did, which was cleanse the temple.
They may not have seen it as a cleansing, but that is what Jesus did.
Then Jesus says "
Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up".
Now in John 2:21 it says this:
Joh 2:21
(21) But
he spake of the temple of his body.
Now even though there was a greater meaning to this prophecy of destroying the temple, and in three days raising it up, (
which Jesus is greater than the temple, even the millennial temple), did this prophecy still have a double meaning to it?
When Jesus spoke the words of "
destroy this temple, and in three days raise it up", was he thinking of 2 things in his mind? That is the present temple that he just cleansed, and his body?
Well let us put scriptures side by side to each other:
Joh 2:13-19 (19) Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. | Hos 6:2 (2) After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.
|
Well both scriptures mention
3 days.
And both scriptures mention something being
raised up sometime on the third day.
Now my question is this, what event begins the three days of John, and what begins the countdown of the 2 days, unto the third day of Hosea?
Well in Hosea, it does not specify when the 2 days begin, but in John it does show what begins the three days.
What begins the 3 days of John, is "
the destruction of the temple".
Now concerning the deeper revelation of John,
the 3 days begin with the destruction of Christ's temple, that is his body, and then it is followed with the 3 days, and you could say that the death of his body starts the countdown of these days.
But also what about the destruction of the literal temple? Well the Jews were asking Jesus a sign of really the cleansing of the literal temple, but the countdown to this,
starts with first, it's destruction, which it was destroyed in A.D. 70, and then it mentions raising it up the third day , well the John verse gives details of the destruction and raising up of the temple itself, but Hosea gives more details on who gets revived and who gets raised up, but there has to be a starting point to when the days of Hosea starts, and the third day begins, and we have our answer in the book of John.Because what literally happened?Mat 24:1-2(1) And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.(2) And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.Well the temple was destroyed in A.D. 70, which Matthew 24:2 speaks of.
But it has never been raised up since, but will only be raised up during the beginning of the millennial reign, or at the beginning of the third day.
Now let get back to our Hosea scripture.
Hos 6:2
(2)
After two days will he revive us: in
the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.
So it says after 2 days will he revive us, revive who? The Israelites, which they will become back a nation under God, when they receive Christ as a nation, during the beginning of the millennial reign.
Well at that very time, what also happens?
Zec 6:13
(13) Even
he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and
shall sit and rule upon his throne; and
he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.
This is referring to Christ building the temple of the Lord, well what does John say?
Joh 2:13-19
(19) Jesus answered and said unto them,
Destroy this temple, and
in three days I will raise it up.
Who shall build the temple? Christ shall. (
I will raise it up).
So I think the John scripture and the Hosea scripture are complementing each other, and one brings the starting line of the countdown, and both mentioned exactly 3 days.
And both bring you to the millennial reign.
So they are in harmony with each other, just both mentioning different aspects of things.
Now of course, in the bible it mentions this verse:
Mar 9:31
(31) For he taught his disciples, and said unto them,
The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.
Now this verse is not talking about a double prophecy, but strictly focused on the resurrection of Jesus, but the John scripture is a double prophecy, and is talking about the rising of yes Christ's body, but also the rising up of the millennial reign temple.
Now concerning the coming of Christ it says this?
Mat 25:13
(13) Watch therefore, for
ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
Now the context of this, refers to the 10 virgins, which this coming refers to the rapture of the church.
Now we
may not know the day of the year that he may come in, nor it's hour, but it says nothing about not knowing the year of his coming.
And can we know the year of his coming? Well I will not say in a strong way, but Hosea, and John
does seem to give us a timeline, that brings us to the millennial reign, and 7 years before that begins, the 7 year tribulation period starts to take place.
So we should take heed to that timeline, which is actually there, and whether the timeline I gave in this study is 100% accurate or not, I do believe that at least it is very close, if not on the mark,
and it does bring us to our time, and this timeline should get us to live our lives for Christ, in a ever increasingly, deeper way.
God shows us the signs of the time in so many ways,
he even gives us timelines.
