Matthew 5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
None of the prophets were hidden from us and given to only a select few. Not one. Every word that the Lord speaks is given to all of us to benefit from. Whether we understand what they say or not, it is up to us to seek. God is fair. His Word is a witness to the just and the unjust. If there truly is a prophet around I want to know what he says. So I am asking where are they and who are they? Can anyone show me? Yes it does say in the NT that Christ will send prophets, ...but their names are mentioned, and Paul came, he prophesied, and Jude came, he prophesied, and the youngest apostle John came and he prophesied, and many more in between, great and small, all mentioned to get this church established and word sent out. John who wrote the last book (Revelation) mentioned that that there were two prophets to come in the end times. He did not mention that many prophets would come, only these. So we wait for them, and the whole world will hear what they have to say for nothing is hidden. All is for a witness. But some say they are in your churches. Only given to you. Are these the same churches that are of the falling away? My church is Christ, and the apostles, and all the prophets from the Old and New testament. We need to put the truth first before our church, go back to the Word and heed the warnings. There is a lot of deceptions happening in the last days. Don't believe everything is from God, Satan can copy, however he cannot copy the truth. Go to the doctrine, the true doctrine which is in the Word. Any one can preach that God is not happy with some of us, or to strengthen the things that are weak, for this is written all over the scriptures. If we are reading and obeying the Word, we should know this. What we don't know is what Babylon the Great is, and how to come out of her. Anything that is of the world is of her. Christ has nothing in the world, and gives us nothing of the world. He gives us his spirit which is truth. This is what is going to see us through. Colossians 2:20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, Colossians 2:21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not; Colossians 2:22 Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men? sister, i have received prophecy. Every word came true. I have even known a prophetess. she never gave me a prophecy tho. You may even know a prophet, but they wont tell you while you are talking like that because you wont believe it unless God speaks thru them to you and you see for yourself. Ask God.
Prophecies i have recieved... The prophet was ministering to me out of the book of daniel and we got into an arguement he said tonight you are going to have a dream... i awoke and the guy who was a prophet was standing at the foot of my bed. i forgot the dream as soon as i woke up. He said oh sorry i need to use the bathroom... but guess what when he left the room he went the wrong way down the hall to the bathroom, because i thought it was bologna. in the morning i told him i couldnt remember the dream... as He gave me the interpretation i could remember the dream. In the dream i saw my wife. and i saw the city where God is. i spoke with angels in another language, which i dont know but obviously i am very fluent in.
another time... i was sad. didnt want to die but didnt want to live either. i was going to kill myself to end it... went to the same guy weeping all the way across town. he listened to my sob story. when i was finished he said your heart is going to spring holes and leak out all the pain, and one day you will look back and smile and have joy when you think on this. it didnt help me then so i took out weeping still. a few days later the sorrow got the better of me. i tied a noose, busted a hole in the celing and tied it up. before i stuck my head in peace hit me. it laid me out on the bed. i was praying in tongues and an angel stood next to my bed giving me the interpretation. as i prayed i felt my spirit spring holes and all my pain rushed out... today when i think back, i do smile.
there is more but if two times wont do it for you i am just wasting my time. who told you this teaching prophets dont exist? from where did you hear it? did The Holy Spirit tell you this? no. He did not. I know He didnt because of experience. I know this because of what God has told me personally.
I say again: the purpose of prophecy is not limited to revelation. to say no more prophets exist today is to ignore a multitude of scripture.
1 cor 14:3...But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.
When i received prophecy it was to comfort and edify and i guess to an extent to exhort. why would i make this up sister? why would i curse myself and lie on God? I will gain nothing by telling you lies. Nor will you.
Ask Him. dont just listen to some preacher, even if it sounds good. take it to God.
Thank you for sharing that Cletus. I have been really thinking about this. As watchful mentioned, the world and all that is in it is waxing old. The church is not at the beginning, but at the end of the journey and everything spoken in scripture is true. However, even though the church is at the end awaiting their Lord, there is always a new beginning for someone, even in these last days, and the Lord does move in mysterious ways. I guess someone being touched by the holy spirit having the gift of prophesy, does not make them a prophet, as in the ones who were already sent, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, or even John for example, but can have that same annointing for a moment to reach someone who really needs it. God is not limited, and if I were to say that all the gifts were ceased, then the gift of wisdom and knowledge and understanding would have ceased also, which we know is not true. So I will give you all the benefit of the doubt because the word of the Lord is the final authority. Just be careful and test the spirits. The spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. They must be saying the same thing already said, and this is how we measure. So I will state for the record that the gifts do still exist until they are not needed anymore is my conclusion after this little discussion. So sorry if I have offended anyone, but we are in the last days, we must be careful. Our faith must be based on us wanting to know the truth that Christ gives, and not go after these miracles. If a miracle happens and it leads us to the Lord, so be it, our eyes have been open, just feed on Christ's flesh now, the Word of God. Hunger for that truth and everything that the Word spoke which cannot be broken. Go with the understanding of the heart and not what the eyes can see, for many deceiving spirits, and men have been sent out into the churches, but we have the Word to compare all things and that they are done in order.

most definitely test what someone/anyone says. the enemy knows us better than we know ourselves... thats how he tricks us. he has been watching since generations and generations... societies and societies ago. He knows how to deceive. he knows when our guard is down, he knows how to direct an attack, and he has no problem attacking women and children to get to the man of a household. he has deceived his own followers to believe he cares for them, but he is only giving them their lusts to snatch their soul away from God. He has even tricked more people into believing he doesn't exist. I wouldnt even know where to begin on (not that i would want to) getting people to believe i didnt exist. how does one go about doing that... just tell them i am not real???... he is very crafty. and anyone speaking lies such as a false teacher or a false prophet is a child of the devil.
one of my gifts is discerning of spirits so its easy for me to know if its from God or not. it took me awhile before i realized not everyone had this gift.
The gifts are to reveal Gods glory thru us. everything the gifts do builds His church in one way or another. even if it is just to an individual. I used to go to a home church where it was not so formal, we sat in a circle and we all shared what The Lord had given us, whether word, song or whatever, we just shared life and the goal was to "have church" the best way we could imagine the early church did meeting in homes. the gifts moved a lot more in a setting like that than in a church where one person speaks on a stage. it becomes evident how God uses individuals differently like this.

It is a real blessing to see people come together to seek truth, rather than to hold on to error to win an argument at any cost. I appreciate both your desire to hold to scripture as our standard and your willingness to reconsider God using prophets today, Sister. Being cautious is very important.
There is one point I need to address. We do not know the name of all the prophets and what they said.
For it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water. 1 Kings 18:4
What was the name of the 100 prophets, and what did they prophecy? I don't know the answer to that question.

May the Lord richly bless your heart, Sister. Such an important point you are making here....amen. It is even why the Lord has called many to come out of the churches in these last days....because they are for the most part being given over and judged by Him, at least here in the west...hence the gifts are badly tainted, and those who remain within its walls are in grave danger of being deceived. And there are dangers and snares in the wilderness too, the devil pursues us into the wilderness, like Pharaoh did, so we still need to continue testing all things.

What was the name of the 100 prophets, and what did they prophecy? I don't know the answer to that question.
Prophets were available at that time so the people of Israel could inquire God through them.
"And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian." - Luke 4:27
But the people of Israel, at least the most part of it never trusted or gave prophets the credibility and honor they deserved.
"Then he said to him, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of His word?..." - 2 Kings 1:16
"But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house.”" - Mark 6:4
Especially because (true) prophets always spoke truth, and most of the times their answers was against their own evil way of walking and doing things.
"So the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is still one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the Lord; but I hate him, because he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil.”..." - 1 Kings 22:8
But the problem is that they were not accepting the truth, but working against it... That is why they said: They only speak against us... Why did I go there?!
And much of Israel preferred to believe in the lies of false prophets rather than humble themselves before the truth of the Lord which was spoken through the prophets.
"And the Lord said to me, “The prophets prophesy lies in My name. I have not sent them, commanded them, nor spoken to them; they prophesy to you a false vision, divination, a worthless thing, and the deceit of their heart." - Jeremiah 14:14
"So he said, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.”" - 1 Kings 19:10
"Nevertheless I must journey today, tomorrow, and the day following; for it cannot be that a prophet should perish outside of Jerusalem." - Luke 13:33
"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!" - Matthew 23:37

1 Samuel 19 suggests that Samuel ran a school for prophets in Ramah. We know they were prophesying, but we don’t know what they said. Later in 1 and 2 Kings we see several references to some type of commune or support group for prophetic students. Three times they told Elisha when Elijah would leave.
Nathan is famous for giving personal words to David. He never wrote a book of prophesy, yet Scripture calls him a prophet. Micaiah didn’t write a book either. The OT is full of prophets whose words are unknown or were for a personal ministry. Many of them remained anonymous.

Yes, not all prophets had recorded writings that became part of the Scriptures we know today.
But many of them, if not all, recorded their ministry by writing the most noticeable events and words from the Lord.
Not all prophets did the same thing, they were all used for different purposes according to their calling.
