Romans 4:5 King James Version 5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
Bear with me but Im getting a sense of three types of righteousness.
There's righteousness through working in the flesh, which is the wrong kind.
There's Christ righteousness, which is imputed to us by faith.
And then there's a kind of righteousness we are to have. Like when Jesus said our righteousness must exceed that of the Pharisees.
Is this wrong? In my understanding, we have righteousness through faith. But without obedience, we aren't righteous. Faith without works is dead.
Christ's righteousness through faith must result in our obedience.

Lets begin with this... 1Jn 3:7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. Rom 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: Rom 5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
2Co 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. Rom 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: Rom 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Rom 8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. Rom 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Rom 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. Rom 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. Rom 8:10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
Eze 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die. Eze 18:5 But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right, Eze 18:6 And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbour's wife, neither hath come near to a menstruous woman, Eze 18:7 And hath not oppressed any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment; Eze 18:8 He that hath not given forth upon usury, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true judgment between man and man, Eze 18:9 Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord GOD.
1Pe 3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.
in the above scriptures i posted it even mentions the righteousness of the law. The law just kills... it cant give life. but one thing remains about laws, if you do not obey there is a penalty. for sin the penalty is death... the soul that sins shall surely die... therefore... the soul that does not sin shall surely live. Now it is true Christ Jesus is our righteousness... our garment... the new man we are to what... put on. I am going to say this as plain as i can... righteousness just means a right standing wth God. but in reality righteousness is something we do... and as we practice righteousness we can then step into living a life... a holy life. even still the best we got that we could ever do or even imagine... its nothing but filthy rags to God. He wont accept it. He wont share His glory. its His.... and He Is ours(righteousness).... truth is the only reason we would even want to obey is because He would make us want to obey... period. thus... none of our works or deeds can JUSTIFY us. and we can take credit for even the idea of it... we can never claim i deserve eternal life because i was pretty good, yeah i mean... i wasnt like these others extortioners and the like. I tithed a tenth of all my mint and cumin. As always... its all about HIM... and He Is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit and Truth... thing is he wont accept the worship if there is not some application or righteousness.... some willingness in our heart to live like He says. you wont get any peace, no words spoken, no communication not even so much as His presence being made known to you. Obedience is not optional... obedience does not justify us, does not save us... but not obeying can disqualify your chances of eternal life with Him. aka... not living righteous.
Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
wait a minute... verse one says to present our bodies HOLY!!! and that this is just our reasonable service. verse two says not to be conformed to the world... and have your mind transformed which comes by The written WORD... so you can prove whats good, acceptable, and perfect will of God.
If He said it as a command its possible.

Psa 84:11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. lets consider Noah. Would He have been saved from the flood if he had not obeyed and because he believed God built the ark? this is what you call saving faith. not faith without works, which is dead. Noah building the ark was a righteous deed/act/work. He obeyed. the walls of Jericho. did they fall before or after the people obeyed???... The Book says the walls fell "after they were compassed about" Abraham obeyed to go... then received the inheritance. Saving faith is faith that obeys. If your faith says obedience is not needed that faith will not save you... and there is nothing righteous about it. just ask yourself the one question... What Would Jesus Do? If you answered obey The Father you answered correctly. Obedience comes first... then the blessing. even Look at Jesus. The Son Of Man was lifted up, crucified, buried in a tomb... but He didnt stay put. not only did he rise from the grave but ascended. He obeyed, even death on a cross. 1Sa 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. 1Sa 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
it is expedient for all believers to understand this:
because Jesus Christ IS our righteousness... without obedience.... you cant even draw near to righteousness. What Kind of King is going to honor or promote those in His Kingdom who does not obey, who does not honor His decrees? What kind of Husband will be well pleased with a wife who nags and complains? What kind of honor will a father have from disobedient children???.. none he will be disgraced.
for the believer we need to make up our mind and settle it in our heart. come hell or high water. come death. come peril... i will serve Jesus Christ with every thing in me. not keeping back a portion like anninias and saphira did... but that He Is our portion.
what we do and dont do can be counted to us as righteousness... but that wont save us. but because we believe God we do what He says... and these are the deeds on judgment day that will be called righteous, not wicked.
lets just be real... if your faith dont trust God enough to do what He says... to obey... you aint got no faith. you got some empty words... and an empty heart. and here it is.... i believe in God, but i dont you know exactly live like i trust what he says. I dont try to apply it to my life.... this is the kind of faith that brings pharisee righteousness.
but when we choose to live for God... He will fill us up. clean us up. but He has to see its genuine.
Mat 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
first obedience... then the blessing. if no obedience... curse and death. there are only two paths in life. if you are not practicing righteousness you are not walking on The Narrow Way.

Id really like to retain more of God's Word.
One thing that I did for Leviticus was look up videos on the Tent of Meeting, the Ark of the Covenant, and how they point to Jesus.
Id like to add visuals to more of the Bible as well.
Id also like to memorize more verses.

These are some scriptures that might help with this topic sister.
Rom 10:3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
Phl 3:9-10 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
Rom 7:4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
As far as I can tell from scripture there are only two kinds of righteousness....ours or His. We die to our own righteousness, and it is His righteousness that He both imputes to us by grace and imparts to us via His Spirit and nature within. Christ in us, the hope of glory.
