How should a Christian view politics?
If there is anything that will spark a spontaneous debate, if not an outright argument, it is a discussion involving politics—even among believers. As followers of Christ, what should be our attitude and our involvement with politics? It has been said that “religion and politics don’t mix.” But is that really true? Can we have political views outside the considerations of our Christian faith? The answer is no, we cannot. The Bible gives us two truths regarding our stance towards politics and government.
The first truth is that the will of God permeates and supersedes every aspect of life. It is God’s will that takes precedence over everything and everyone (Matthew 6:33). God’s plans and purposes are fixed, and His will is inviolable. What He has purposed, He will bring to pass, and no government can thwart His will (Daniel 4:34-35). In fact, it is God who “sets up kings and deposes them” (Daniel 2:21) because “the Most High is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives them to anyone he wishes” (Daniel 4:17). A clear understanding of this truth will help us to see that politics is merely a method God uses to accomplish His will. Even though evil men abuse their political power, meaning it for evil, God means it for good, working “all things together for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).
Second, we must grasp the fact that our government cannot save us! Only God can. We never read in the New Testament of Jesus or any of the apostles expending any time or energy schooling believers on how to reform the pagan world of its idolatrous, immoral, and corrupt practices via the government. The apostles never called for believers to demonstrate civil disobedience to protest the Roman Empire’s unjust laws or brutal schemes. Instead, the apostles commanded the first-century Christians, as well as us today, to proclaim the gospel and live lives that give clear evidence to the gospel’s transforming power.
There is no doubt that our responsibility to government is to obey the laws and be good citizens (Romans 13:1–2). God has established all authority, and He does so for our benefit, “to commend those who do right” (1 Peter 2:13–15). Paul tells us in Romans 13:1–8 that it is the government’s responsibility to rule in authority over us—hopefully for our good—to collect taxes, and to keep the peace. Where we have a voice and can elect our leaders, we should exercise that right by voting for those who best demonstrate Christian principles.
One of Satan’s grandest deceptions is that we can rest our hope for cultural morality and godly living in politicians and governmental officials. A nation’s hope for change is not to be found in any country’s ruling class. The church has made a mistake if it thinks that it is the job of politicians to defend, to advance, and to guard biblical truths and Christian values.
The church’s unique, God-given purpose does not lie in political activism. Nowhere in Scripture do we have the directive to spend our energy, our time, or our money in governmental affairs. Our mission lies not in changing the nation through political reform, but in changing hearts through the Word of God. When believers think the growth and influence of Christ can somehow be allied with government policy, they corrupt the mission of the church. Our Christian mandate is to spread the gospel of Christ and to preach against the sins of our time. Only as the hearts of individuals in a culture are changed by Christ will the culture begin to reflect that change.
Believers throughout the ages have lived, and even flourished, under antagonistic, repressive, pagan governments. This was especially true of the first-century believers who, under merciless political regimes, sustained their faith under immense cultural stress. They understood that it was they, not their governments, who were the light of the world and the salt of the earth. They adhered to Paul’s teaching to obey their governing authorities, even to honor, respect, and pray for them (Romans 13:1-8). More importantly, they understood that, as believers, their hope resided in the protection that only God supplies. The same holds true for us today. When we follow the teachings of the Scriptures, we become the light of the world as God has intended for us to be (Matthew 5:16).
Political entities are not the savior of the world. The salvation for all mankind has been manifested in Jesus Christ. God knew that our world needed saving long before any national government was ever founded. He demonstrated to the world that redemption could not be accomplished through the power of man, economic strength, military might, or politics. Peace of mind, contentment, hope, and joy—and the salvation of mankind—are provided only through Jesus’ death and resurrection.

How I see it is the right dont get it and the left gets it wrong. The Book says Jesus came "in the fullness of time"... and what can we see then: Luk 2:1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. Luk 2:2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) Luk 2:3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. in order for this to work they had to a census. and why number the people? to find out two things. who can pay/how much taxes they will get and 2 how many men can fight. Money and power. this is politics. Luk 3:12 Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do? Luk 3:13 And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you. Luk 3:14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages. Luk 3:15 And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not;
again, money and power.
John told them to do justice. He engaged in politics. He pressed upon them dynamics of The Kingdom and of Righteousness... seek ye first What what??? HIS KINGDOM AND HIS RIGHTOUSNESS.
what did He say... occupy until I come. OCCUPY. whats this word mean? It means to take over by force a hostile territory.
Psa 94:20 Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law? Psa 94:21 They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood. Psa 94:22 But the LORD is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge. Psa 94:23 And he shall bring upon them their own iniquity, and shall cut them off in their own wickedness; yea, the LORD our God shall cut them off.
once you understand we are citizens of a Kingdom already you understand what we do is political... even as ambassadors.
all thru the bible it tells us about caring for the poor and needy. is this a non-political stance?
Christian morals vs. the worlds morality? political, of course you must understand the politics here is not dem and rep. its the world politics vs Kingdom politics. these are two kingdoms... and there is a war going on. there is that power part again.
and in war to try to gain power what do you do... remember when we captured Sadam Hussien and then killed him? take out the leadership and the lower ranks fall apart, which is what happened... so dont try to tell me Jesus being cruicified wasnt a political assassination.
You see the problem is very simple... Many of us live very comfortable lives. so comfortable we are not effected by politics. we are not effected by refugee quotas or illegal immigrants, welfare, or how much money goes into certain schools... we can send our kids to nearly any school we want. even those on a budget can if they look hard enough. we can go where we want, do what we want, get our kids educated where we want... we can turn a blind eye to politics... we can turn a blind eye to our poor neighbors... we can insulate ourselves in our own private lives and in our own faith. if you listen closely many of our own theologies reflect this.
Do government policies not effect the lives of the orphan, the widow, and the foreigner? Does Jesus not care for these people? Deeply care for these societal outcasts He does. even for the unborn that they tear from the womb in pieces.
Eze 16:48 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters. Eze 16:49 Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. Eze 16:50 And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.
God mentions of Sodom not taking care of the poor and needy BEFORE he mentions their... abominations.
As a believer in The LORD Jesus Christ if you wont involve yourself in politics you are not doing anything for those Jesus wants to help because they are cast aways of the worlds kingdom. If you have an opportunity to strengthen the hand of the needy, or save babies from being aborted or help refugees, real ones not those wanna-bes posing as non-terrorists ... and you sit by and do nothing... well, what ye have done unto THE LEAST OF THESE MY BRETHREN... you did it unto Him.
everything we do is political. we either support the enemies kingdom... or God's. your either for Him... or against Him. And He Is THE KING OF KINGS.

Well, as I'm sure we all know God's kingdom is not of this world. The kingdoms of the world are temporal. We are not actually here for the sake of our earthly kingdom or nation or town, or company we work for, or our earthly family, but we are here for the sake of the Lord, in HIS service, even though our service to Him means being a blessing in whatever earthly sphere(s) we find ourselves in.
We can glean from what God told the Israelites before they were carried off to Babylon and the example of Daniel. From that I learn that we are to pray for and may work for the good of the temporal sphere we happen to be part of in the sovereign will of the Lord. And looking at Daniel who even had a position of authority in the "government" of Babylon.....he acquitted himself well, doing his job as unto the Lord, for God's glory....letting his light shine that men would see his good works and give glory to God.....but when push came to shove, he did not compromise God's will, and was willing to lose his position and even his life for the sake of truth and righteousness.
So I believe the important thing is to not put politics or anything else of this world before God. And not to let the politics of this world distract us from our reason for being here as Christians, which is first and foremost to be a witness of the gospel, since we are ambassadors and citizens of God's kingdom, not of a worldly kingdom.

This is precisely why the focus must be GOD , THE GOSPLE . It must be the forefront of everything . A lot of people will be caught up in a snare . IF the focus is on the kingdom now , the world , then they will unite with anyone who agrees with them for the cause . An example . I see many within even christendom who unite with catholics , even muslims , or any who is in agreement with , THEIR POLITICAL MINDSET . YEAH . AND IT IS A SNARE . And a big one too . BUT IF OUR MIND IS ABOVE ON JESUS , then we unite with those whose minds are above on HIM . These will not find themselves being unequally yoked together with the causes of this world . MANY are gonna fall . WE should have remained like the early church did . Pray for the leaders , but do not unite under their causes . Folks dont realize that pence , trump , they are FOR the abrhamic faith convenant , THAT ROME ITSELF LEADS IN . WE MUST pull away from the causes of this world . I Dont need to unite with anyone that is of any contrary belief for any cause . An example . I am dead set against abortion . BUT that dont mean i am gonna unite with catholics to try and stop it . NOPE i can do as i need to on my own . YALL mark my words we are walking right into a snare if our hopes are in politics . Simply pray for your leaders . Speak truth . But never get unequally yoked . And never have any hope in this world . The last time i checked , near the end things go from bad to worse . And if JESUS said so , and the apostels said so . YEAH THEN IT IS SO .

"... ... follow the teachings of the Scriptures, we become the light of the world as God has intended for us to be (Matthew 5:16)."
If anyone is born again, born from above, born not by the will of man (nothing of man's/flesh/doing) nor by the flesh nor by blood, but born by the Will of The Father in Heaven
THEN they are the light of the world, abiding in union in and with Yeshua .
If they follow all Scripture, but are not born again (are resisting dying, refusing to die, refusing to give up everything even their own life), then they are not a light at all, rather a problem perhaps as most in the world are leading to destruction...
This is all too often mis-represented here on the forum and world wide in most if not all 'churches'. It is not at all possible to rely on ourselves, nor to change ourselves to go from being dead to being alive by reading Scripture, not even by memorizing it thoroughly in the original languages.
The change, a total change in life, is necessary and required and only accomplished as God Says.

While this man is so right , for yeah i been warning against this all inclusive trash for years , Dont ever forget that even busch said we all , muslims and all serve the same GOD . Dont ever forget that even mike pence and trump support the abrahamic faith accord , WHICH CAME FROM ROME . YEAH . THIS IS WHERE the world will unite . Our evangical churches are fast selling out under this all inclusive social gosple . THIS IS WHERE they will FIND COMMON ground and unity and RIGHT UNDER THE BEAST who was and is and yet is not . ITS COMING Faster and faster . HAS anyone ever wondered why on earth you can have many who support trump , AND YET they also support pope franics . BUT i am telling us its called confusion of faces . I watched robertson even speak against communism , i watched them prosperity stallions preach against communism , liberalsim , AND YET THEY PUSHING US TO UNIFY WITH ROME . THE reason is , because everyone who is not truly OF CHRIST , CHRIST CENTRED , no matter their politics , WILL UNITE UNDER THE LIE . WE MUST pull away from all this stuff NOW . GET centered back on JESUS .

The basic and most important duty of an ambassador is to represent the interests of where they are from, and due to the danger of their job they must be very diplomatic.
A christian really has duel citizenship.

in the roman days the soldiers were not allowed to have jobs in agriculture or a market selling goods or any job that would take up to much of their time. 2Tim 2:4 is not forbidding involvement in politics. its speaking to not allowing things to dominate your life so it brings you to the place where your mission/calling is jeopardized. we do still live in the world, we do still have to have a job, and we still have to exist here, for now as is. the verse can also be speaking to carnal desires. Standing for christian values in politics... voting for those whose politics best represent these values if the opportunity is there for you is not what that verse speaks on. if that is in fact how you are using that verse that goes hand in hand with what i said in my original post concerning listening closely to our theologies and how we insulate ourselves, turning a blind eye.
If we fail to engage in the world around us all we are really doing is burying our talent in the sand. and even worse... if we dont stand for whats right there will be zero resistance for evil.
You know what the problem with socialism and communism is? its not economics. its atheism. Its Godlessness.
Godlessness in politics... HMMM.... i wonder whose politics those are. (i wonder)

Godlessness in politics... HMMM.... i wonder whose politics those are. (i wonder) I don't know if you saw my earlier post brother, or whether you agree that Daniel is an example of how we should be. The bible says we are strangers (foreigners) passing through this world.......but doing good as we have means and opportunity, as unto the Lord, and being led by Him. If a believer is in a position to work for Godly principles....justice, honesty and efficiency, etc.... in government, I do not believe that is wrong and it can be a good witness. As long as they aren't putting the cart before the horse, and don't compromise Godliness themselves in order to do so. At some point the sacrifice one is willing to make for truth and righteousness is the strongest witness we can have as believers. There's just no lasting answer in this world.....even with democracy, it's only good as long as the Lord is offering you a decent choice in political leadership. And if the majority of the population aren't Godly themselves, then they will not support Godly initiatives in government, they will support and vote for what is unGodly, and unGodly leadership. And the Lord will eventually judge an unGodly nation when it fills up its cup of transgression. Like ancient Israel, as soon as we are blessed in this world materially we start to forget God, and America was blessed for a time and now many have turned away from God. I get tears in my eyes sometimes watching what is happening to America, how she is being torn apart. It reminds me of the story of Solomon and the baby. I hope I am wrong, but either way is not good whether the baby is cut in two or given whole into the hands of a wrong and corrupt mother. Donald Trump is not the answer, he may have some good policies but in other ways he works against the Lord.....look how his peace plan divides the land of Israel.....he is potentially part of the judgment, chosen by God for the job in the sense of being foreknown by Him to do so, to divide America. Might be that His surname Trump is a warning...trumpets were sounded in Israel to warn of impending war and judgment. It doesn't look as though there is any good answer to be found in this political situation. It's a rock and a hard place. Vote and campaign as one might, but about all that can be done is to keep seeking the Lord and pray for mercy and opportunities for the gospel in the difficulties that are coming.....He will be watching over and helping His flock whatever happens....and I can't help but feel many will return to the Lord in the times that are coming, and that is the reason He allows hard times to happen. Our hope is just not in this temporal world but in the world to come.

Our hope is just not in this temporal world but in the world to come. I have carefully considered your words. I still believe what a person believes deep down will come out on the ballot, and that is the type of government they will go for. I still believe the problem with socialism is Godlessness. I still believe we have a duel citizenship, and we should try to establish a Godly type government in the land. However...
What stood out the most in what you said was concerning Trumps peace plan. I do not know if that is the reason, or partially the reason for Trump didnt get back in, tho i do suspect its apart of the equation. i do know tho that there is hard evidence of election fraud from computer geniuses, and even video footage, and the courts wont even look at it, it appears that hearts have been turned like water in a river, or it was all a big act all along to keep people complacent . It could be what some democrats are saying as well that there are some who idolize trump. thats one thing the dems say is true. I think however this nation failed to heed the call to repent, many went after their Godless ways and now God is giving this nation over to that very thing. in between this post and my last post to you in this thread God spoke to me thru the word on something that is a complete game changer for me. its different instructions from before when i asked for His council. this tells me the times have changed, and the only thing i can think of is its to bring the sin to "full" so judgment will be just as to Gods limits. I am still praying on it.
anyway, as soon as trumps peace plan began to gain traction... this nation was already divided, but that division became more out in the open, even to the point of violence. Its all coming together right now... Giller posted the thread about 2 days in Hosea... God took me there years ago. there are other threads on this forum now to where everything ties together, brings the puzzle pieces to a fit, not that they didnt fit before but that this point on the timeline when they are fitting. and this is my reflection on your words " it's only good as long as the Lord is offering you a decent choice" i think the time of decent choices is over. i think its time for ten toes to rise. I think violence is about to increase. lawlessness and depravity also. I know that resistance to God's will results in death.
i do know for certain, i am deeply wounded by the cowards, spineless cowards, and how they did not even honor their own word that are politicians on the right side. they have betrayed america, freedom, liberty, justice, we the people, and even themselves. and in a sense... even those beyond our borders. I have to just chalk it up to its Gods will.
