Matthew 5:17-20 King James Version 17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Is Jesus advocating that people follow all of the law and the prophets here?
I ask because Paul teaches that certain laws no longer are necessary to follow.

The law is fulfilled in Christ, and the moral law is still for today, but the ceremonial law is no longer binding, but the things that the ceremonial laws point to, that is for today, that is the spiritual truths that they point to, such as the day of Passover, points us to Christ's death, and we must put our faith, in Christ and him crucified.

The answer is:
...Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. - Galatians 5:16
...Against such there is no law. - Galatians 5:23
For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh,
God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,
that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us
who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. - Romans 8:3-4
Now we walk by faith.
Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God.
Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. - Romans 14:22
But there is always someone who asks:
Then I can watch porn, kill people, engage in homosexual relationship, these things?
What you have to ask yourself is:
Who is leading you to do those things: the flesh or the Spirit of God?
If it is the flesh then you will be in trouble.
For if you live according to the flesh you will die;
but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. - Romans 8:13
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. - Galatians 5:16
It is your mind that will have to change.
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh,
but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. - Romans 8:5
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me;
and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God,
who loved me and gave Himself for me. - Galatians 2:20
And as it is written:
He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked. - 1 John 2:6
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. - Romans 8:14
Conclusion:
This being so, I myself always strive to have a conscience without offense toward God and men. - Acts 24:16

Mat 5:17-20 (17) Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. (20) For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
So Jesus came to fulfill the law and the prophets, and not to destroy it.
Now how did he fulfill the prophets? Well by fulfilling many of the prophet's prophecies, which pointed to the coming Messiah.
Here is an example:
Isa 53:5 (5) But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
This speaks of the things Jesus suffered for us, in regards to the cross ,and his road to the cross.
So this is how he fulfilled the prophets.

Jesus fulfilled the Law by dying on the cross for our sins....because according to the Law, which God instituted and put into effect, without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins.

Is Jesus advocating that people follow all of the law and the prophets here? I ask because Paul teaches that certain laws no longer are necessary to follow. Just understand that we no longer look to the law to save us . By the law everyone of us stands condemned . For all have sinned . But in CHRIST if we follow the SPIRIT the righteousness of the law would be fullfilled in us by the Spirit . For the Spirit does not lead us nor unction us to do evil , but to do good . The flesh is contrary , but greater Is HE in us . Love actually does fullfill the righteousness of the law . Love would do no evil towards GOD or man . THUS there truly is no law against the love that comes From GOD . GOD desired the people to obey Him from the heart , PRAISE GOD for JESUS CHRIST , for in HIM we have the ability and desire to do good and flee evil . Any love that comes from GOD does not trangress the law , it would not have us to do what God calls evil , but rather it has us Love what HE calls good . Now JESUS made it clear , concerning meats and drinks , IT aint what Goes in the body that defiles you , its what comes out of your heart . SIN . Paul knew that . Its why He says i am persauded by Christ that nothing of itself is unclean . But it is santicified by the word and prayer . However not all folks have that knowledge . And thus they will abstain from certain meats . IF they abstain we abstain while we are before them . Let no man judge you in meat , drinks , celebrations of days , of sabbath days . These are willfull acts of good worship , like fasting and etc . However let no man judge another concerning meats drinks and days . One thing though . eat nothing IF YOU KNOW its been sacrificed to idols . And drink no blood . SEE it not as we are earning anything . WE are simply walking in the new man , by the power of the SPIRIT . Love would do no evil , no wrong to man . No wrong to God . Meaning if folks are telling us gay marriage is love , we know they are dead wrong. cause You cant call good what GOD calls evil . Or any other sin . However meats drinks and days , let each be fully persuaded . For its not a sin to not eat or to eat , UNLESS one eats NOT of faith . THUS if we see some who eat no meat , WE EAT NO MEAT while around them .

I think I understand.
Christ fulfilled the law of Moses in our place, and gave us the law of love and the Spirit for us to follow.

I think I understand. Christ fulfilled the law of Moses in our place, and gave us the law of love and the Spirit for us to follow. For the love that comes From God shed upon the hearts of those who believe in Christ , would have us loving truth , God , Christ above all and our neighbor as ourself . Let us praise and and thank continuously our Blessed God and Father of our Lord and savoir Jesus Christ . We truly need Him at all times . May we abound by the grace of GOD and follow diligently our Glorious Lord , the Spirit and our comforter . Let us stir one another up by the Holy Ghost given unto us and be stirring one another up by pure way of remembrance of all things Our Lord did teach . Be diligently seeking the Lord and let us be learning well our bibles . Bringing all reminders of truth to stir one another up . And let us praise the glorious Lord .

Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. (free. free. free free free free free) Rom 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: Rom 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Rom 8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. Rom 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Rom 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. Rom 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. Rom 8:10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. Rom 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

The Scribes and Pharisees were righteous in their own eyes, and were not truly walking after the righteousness of God, but Christ's righteousness surpasses any man's so called righteousness, and the righteousness we have in Christ surpasses the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees.
He is our righteousness.

More stuff
Mat 5:17-20 (17) Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. (20) For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Jesus fulfilled the law, through his perfectly led life, and him becoming a perfect sacrifice for us on the cross.
But what does the bible say was nailed to the cross?
Now yes the bible says that he bore our sins upon his body on the cross, but I am zeroing in on something specific, I am zeroing in, on what Col 2:14-16 says.
Col 2:14-16 (14) Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; (15) And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. (16) Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
It was the handwriting of ordinances, that was in a certain specific manner, against them, that was nailed to the cross, but which ordinances?
Well we see clues in verse 16, which mentions the new moon and sabbath days, and who established the various sabbath days and the new moon under the Old covenant? It was God.
It speaks in a big way of God's old testament ceremonial laws.
Now is there a scripture that specifically mentions hand written ordinances, that was in some manner against them, under the Old covenant? yes.
And this meat, drink, Holyday stuff, speaks of meat ordinances, drink ordinances, and holydays that God had established in old Testament times, and I will prove this in another post, by simply letting the word of God, reveal the word of God.
And notice that the King James bible, does not say holidays, but rather holydays, very specific.
