I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. Luke 18:14
The word we are looking for in scripture is abased. Try to find scriptures that use that word, and post them. This word doesn't appear that many times in the Bible, but some words are found in a lot of places. While abased doesn't come up that often, there are a few other verses that contain it.

Philippians 4:12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
Abased is to make oneself of a lower degree, or rank. Jesus abased himself when he washed the feet of his disciples to demonstrate that he, the Son of God, was serving them. A King always has others washing his feet, serving him, and would never lower his rank. Our King lowered his rank so much that he was mocked for us, whipped for us, spat on for us, given vinegar to drink for us, and crucified for us. He died like a commoner, and a criminal one at that. He wants us to humble ourselves towards each other in the same way he did. Everything we do should be for the benefit of Christ, and for our brethren and neighbours, and not for ourselves.

Based on the scriptures where the word abased comes up, I think the primary lesson we get is that we need to be humble. If we are prideful, God has a way of humbling us. The verse in Philippians is interesting, as it speaks of our behavior in different situations. There is a time to abound and a time to be abased.
That word does not come up in many places in scripture, and I think all of them have been mentioned.
