Do our practical needs just distract us from God or is there a way to stay connected to God through things like chores, work, and the like?

I believe that God knows that we have the need to work to provide income for our daily needs, also i believe God knows that we have the need to do chores as such. We can sing Praises to Him through these things and give thanks for the blessings He provides, we can be a witness to others through our jobs. I would state though that there is the difference between normal work compared to workaholic and that would come under the umbrella of false worship.

I see your not looking for the Blessed Hope!2 Peter 3:4 4And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

Where are you plunged into? Hi magpass. I find that worrying about the state of the world does nothing to really help anyone. God is still on the throne. He can handle the big things. So I just focus on things I can control. It is enough to just worry about today, let alone the world.

Those scoffers do not believe in Christ and so don't believe He is coming back to the judge the world. But to us, Jesus said to occupy until He comes.....since no man knows the day or the hour of His return. Whether we happen to be alive at His return or in the grave, it doesn't matter because we have the blessed hope....we're saved by that hope ( Romans 8:24 ). In my view it would be more edifying to be preparing to lay down our lives for the Lord rather than seeking to escape trouble. Don't forget He is going to be looking for last-hour-of-the-day labourers for His vineyard.

I would say beginning the day with the Lord is important. Praying as well as reading and meditating on His word, gets our hearts recalibrated and rightly oriented to Him for the day. And then whatsoever we do, we can do as unto the Lord. "Early will I seek you." wrote the Psalmist.
