There are many parallels between the Old testament and the New testament, under Joshua, they had rest from their physical enemies, under Christ we have rest from our spiritual enemies.
There are many verses that talk about rest, in the bible.
Here are 2 scriptures to think upon:
Jer 6:16
(16) Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
Mat 11:28-30
(28) Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
(29) Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
(30) For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Too many are talking about this new thing, but God says ask for the old paths. As often is the case my friend . And yet i see to always notice this new thing contradicts the old original path . That should tell us something . As we KNOW GOD would never have us to leave off the original doctrine and path that CHRIST so long ago set before us and later the apostels did as well . IF a man comes saying its time to take God out of the box , I would be highly wary of that soul . Cause i also notice they use this when corrected . OH you PUTTING GOD IN a box says they . NO we are just reminding with his reminders . Taking GOD out of the box was a real bad idea . In truth they simply meant and mean , TAKE GOD out of the biblical box and let us create a GOD of own our making . In the beginning WE SEE GOD say LET us make man in our own image Today its let us make us a God after own our own image . THEY are creating a GOD after the likeness of mankind . WE see in the bible where IT says David was a man after GODS own heart but today they have a GOD after their own heart and desires . Satan is a twister and a deciever and he surely knows how to decieve man . THROUGH THE LUSTS OF THE FLESH . But greater is HE that is in the lambs than they who are of the world , and thus the lambs wont heed the voice of strangers . FOR THE LORD watches over the flock and the lambs love His words and the very pure and holy truth in the scriptures ,,, upon these does a lamb feast . |

Psa 37:3-7
(3) Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
(4) Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
(5) Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
(6) And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.
(7) Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
Resting in the Lord, is something we should live in, it brings us to a place of total trust in the Lord, and no dependence upon oneself.
And therein shall you hear him clearly, and see clearly what is will is.
Sometimes we do not see clearly, because we do not wait upon him.

I know when I am confused at times, I close my eyes and think of God. Today, I had a temptation and I thought of Jesus reaching out his arms to me and my reach to hold his hands. I felt a real connection and my struggle when away.

We have tremendous rest, in every way in Christ, and even in the old testament, they could have some type of rest, but not to the extent we have it today.
What were some of the types of rest, they could experience in the old testament ?

No it is not that scripture I was talking about, which in the king James bible it says this: Heb 4:8 (8) For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. but rather here is the scripture I am referring to: Jos 21:44 (44) And the LORD gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand. Now what kind of rest was that ? |

the kind of rest that enemies do not attack because God gave them those lands as an inheritance.
Acts 13:19 MEV
When He had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He gave them their land as an inheritance by lot.

Now another type of rest, they had under old covenant times, was a day of rest.
Exo 20:8-11
(8) Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
(9) Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
(10) But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
(11) For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
But also there is another type of rest mentioned, that they had in part, under the old covenant, and it is found through a person named David, now what could that have been ?
