Many indeed there be that are of the UNMARRIED harlot . Few they be who are of Christ . Many more are the children of the desolate than of the married wife . The false way verses the true and only way . Even though what you are saying is true about the whore, how she has many more children than they who are of Christ, the context here, in Isaiah, is about the Jews and the Gentiles, the one's who were associated as being the married wife were at this point, in a barren state which is a negative state, and the Gentiles were also in a negative state, which they were desolate. It makes me think of the verse, all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
And then we see in Galatians, associating this verse in Isaiah with the New covenant, which the Galatians were mainly comprised of Gentiles, both the desolate and barren, can now come to Christ. The Gentiles are the one's who make the bulk of the New covenant church, but the barren nation of Israel, will one day come out of blindness and barrenness, and receive Christ as their Lord and saviour.

Isaiah 55 and 54 Gentile specific versesI want to compare a verse in Isaiah 54, to other verses found in Isaiah, and then we will go to Isaiah 55. Isaiah 54Isa 54:3 (3) For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited.
| Isa 14:1-2 (1) For the LORD will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land: and the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob. (2) And the people shall take them, and bring them to their place: and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of the LORD for servants and handmaids: and they shall take them captives, whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors.
|
The strangers of Isaiah 14, refer to the Gentiles, and Israel, in one form or another shall have them for a possession or inheritance, which will take place in the millennial reign, so this is what Isaiah 54 refers to. These you could say are sister verses. So the desolate of Isaiah 54:1, refers to the salvation of the Gentiles, and the church age, but Israel inheriting the Gentiles for a possession, refers to Israel having them as an inheritance, during the millennial reign. And now we go unto the Gentile verse, referred to in Isaiah 55: Isaiah 55Isa 55:5 (5) Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the LORD thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee. Now I read a few commentaries about this, and you have to read the verses very carefully. Let us start with verses mentioned beforehand: Isa 55:3-6 (3) Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. (4) Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people. (5) Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the LORD thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee. (6) Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: We will get into verse 3, in another post. The " him", " leader" and " commander", of verse 4, refers to Jesus Christ. And at the beginning of verse 5, it mentions the word " thou", and here Isaiah was speaking to Israel, thus speaking of Israel when using the word "t hou". The nations that the Israelites knew not, refers to the Gentiles. Were it says the Lord thy God in verse 5, refers to God the Father, and were it says the Holy one of Israel refers to Jesus Christ. And the ones that get glorified ( glorified thee), refers to the thou mentioned at the beginning of verse 5, which is Israel. Now yes Jesus did get glorified through his resurrection, and him being seated at the right hand of the Father, but so will Israel be glorified in some form, when she receives Christ as her saviour near the time of the second coming, and becomes the premiere nation during the millennia reign. Yes Gentile Nations shall be saved through the only salvation which is Christ, but also ISRAEL SHALL BECOME A TYPE OF TESTIMONY UNTO THE GENTILE NATIONS THROUGH CHRIST OF COURSE. And this during the time of the millennial reign. So we see in these verses, things that point to Christ and also the millennial reign, but what about what verse 3 is talking about ? What is this everlasting covenant referring to ? And is there a hint in verse 3 found in the words :" the sure mercies of David" ??

Isaiah 55, sure mercies of David
Isa 55:3 (3) Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.
| Act 13:33-34 (33) God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. (34) And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.

I just want to know how many of you's my friends: frienduff , tabitha3319 , Les , ohhello , and John , would agree so far that Isaiah chapters 53 to 55, all follow each other in referring to the new covenant ? Such as I will quote verses in each chapter, with their new testament equivalent: Isaiah chapter 53: Isa 53:6 (6) All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
| 1Co 15:3 (3) For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
|
This is talking about Christ dying on the cross for our sins, which is the basis of the new covenant. Isaiah chapter 54: Isa 54:1 (1) Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD.
| Gal 4:23-24 (23) But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise. (24) Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
Gal 4:26-28 (26) But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all. (27) For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband. (28) Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.
|
Israel one day (the barren) will receive the new covenant as a nation, near the time of the second coming, and this saying of : " Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband" , points to the receiving of the new covenant, which through the person of Jesus Christ, which was part of Abraham's lineage, the promised messiah was to come. , and did come Isaiah chapter 55: Isa 55:3 (3) Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. |
This everlasting covenant, is the new covenant, and the ultimate sure mercies of David, points to the resurrection of Christ, and it is through David's lineage that Christ comes from. In fact the bible says that we are saved by his death and resurrection also. 1Pe 1:3 (3) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

Isa 56:1-2 (1) Thus saith the LORD, Keep ye judgment, and do justice: for my salvation is near to come, and my righteousness to be revealed. (2) Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.

What was the salvation that was near to come ? And remember that to the Lord when 1000 years has passed, it is like 1 day has passed to him.
| Luk 2:25-32 (25) And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. (26) And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. (27) And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, (28) Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, (29) Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: (30) For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, (31) Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; (32) A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

Blessed is the man that layeth hold on what ?

What this is saying, is that when Christ the one who is salvation, is come, and his righteousness is revealed, hold on to him, for he is our salvation.
The new covenant is revealed in Christ Jesus.

(17) For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. It is referring to the new covenant, isn't it ?
