At the risk of harping on CS Lewis, he wrote a whole segment about this phenomenon in The Abolition of Man. There's an agenda in our society to divorce our intellectual capability from our guttural feelings. The end result is overly-educated "rational" thinkers who don't know how to govern their impulses. Public school is the primary outlet for this agenda, among other means, and psychotropic drugs can definitely speed things along (no pun intended).
Stimulants for ADD/ADHD should be a last resort in severe cases and only to get the patient in remission so that natural treatments can take over. They shouldn't be a permanent solution. It's kind of like how antibiotics can kill infections as long as we use them sparingly. Any drug is dangerous when we abuse it; that's the nature of a drug. Oxycodone was developed for patients in legitimate extreme pain. Now it's one of the most popular drugs on the street. So then what happens? Patients who truly need it are judged, interrogated, and punished like they're faking it.
Unfortunately we have millions of people abusing psychotropic drugs, and what's more unfortunate is that the average primary care doctor has no idea how to manage these drugs. Clinical guidelines (mostly set by the drug makers and imposed by insurance companies) tell doctors on the front lines how to prescribe a drug. The doctor might be passively interested in getting you into remission, but he/she won't go to any extra miles on an alternative treatment plan.
When I was going through my health crisis, I wasted untold money, time, and resources on many useless doctors. It was just one constant series of antibiotics, sedatives, expensive tests, and inconclusive lab reports, based on little more than clinical algorithms the doctors were told to obey. It took a lot of prayer to find people who could actually help.
Here's a little secret about doctors. There are more drugs on the market than time in the day to research them. Doctors don't know everything about every new drug. So your typical doctor has a collection of go-to drugs that he/she is comfortable to recommend. You'll hear the doctor say things like "I've had good results with this" or "My patients tend to like it" which should tell you the doctor prescribes it all the time. He/she really has no idea what that drug will do to your individual body; it's assumption that your body should respond like most people tend to respond. Then if your insurance company rejects it, the doctor will shrug it off and move on to Plan B, again just going with the flow and hoping for the best.
Never put a pill in your mouth until you do your own homework on it. Seriously, the doctor doesn't know much more about it than you do.
Before my writing career took off I actually worked in healthcare. I've worked in the pharmacy side and the insurance side. I've seen the way insurance companies dictate treatment plans and the way most doctors prescribe the same drug ten times a day. The powers that be (Abolition of Man) are perfectly happy with this arrangement because it results in millions of people misusing psychotropic drugs.
Freud and Jung paved the way for the psycho heresies we now find in our churches.
They also paved the way for a gold-mine of drug sales. A never ending saga of so-called science peddling drugs to an ever younger customer group just to make sure they are trapped into the pill-regime and perpetuate this parody of errors.
That Christians now herald this godless pursuit is a travesty. Suddenly we can fix everything with the right medication.
I have tried most of them before I realized that spiritual issues can never be medicated. I can give chapter and verse on how, why, what, where and when. When we turn our backs on God's healing Spirit, we do ourselves and millions of others a grave disservice.
In certain isolated cases some drugs are most necessary. But to treat them as a panacea for all ills is a travesty. Beware psycho-heresy. It is couched in supposed science, but it is not yet a complete and proven science. It is still in its experimental stages. Freud and Jung and many others were/are occultists - what does that tell you? Look up the meanings of pharmacy.
Be ever so careful what you peddle to your children. It may perpetuate a lifetime of pill popping...
Yes, the whole system is bizarrely wicked, overall, worldwide.
I saw a television program where A.D.D. was discussed, and they were talking about these children being hyperactive, and their solution was stimulants. I have no experience with this, but on the surface, I would think this would make the condition worse. What is the logic in this?
Very short version: 'stimulants' (perhaps even like coffee?) CALM THEM DOWN. Opposite effect of what happens in most adults.
