To exercise spiritual gifts is not something many people are interested in but many do benefit from them daily.
Yes, people can definitely make use of spiritual gifts even without knowing.
But to use spiritual gifts in ignorance is like having a brute diamond. It could shine much more if properly finished.
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may
see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." - Matthew 5:16
I have heard people's comments (not here) and I could see one thing clearly:
Well, you have just lost an opportunity to manifest your gift.
They have missed the opportunity because they were probably ignorant.
We are told to pursue love and to desire spiritual gifts.
"Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts..." - 1 Corinthians 14:1
"For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you." - John 13:15
"Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ." - 1 Corinthians 11:1
Well, people generally know what they have been called to do. And their desire is one sign of it.
"...for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure." - Philippians 2:13
"...he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also..." - John 14:12
"Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ." - 1 Corinthians 11:1
But each one receive a measure of faith.
"But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift." - Ephesians 4:7
You may also receive plain revelation from God confirming that, and the signs will follow.
If you are still in doubt, ask the Lord and He will reveal to you.
"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find..." - Matthew 7:7
Learning, there is always a learning process. If you tell me no then you are probably a brute diamond.
I tell this because experience showed me and there are things I have learned from them.
Exercising of spiritual gifts must be done in conjunction with sanctification and spiritual growth.
"For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision
avails anything, but faith working through love." - Galatians 5:6
Seek to grow in love, spiritual gifts must be manifested through love. Always.
"...bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails." - 1 Corinthians 13:7-8
"...if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law." - Galatians 5:18
"He who does not love does not know God, for God is love." - 1 John 4:8
Learn with the Lord: Ask, seek, and receive.
Let Him be your teacher and walk in humility, the Lord can use situations and other people to teach you something.
Obviously, He can also talk to you directly by revealing knowledge to you through His Spirit who dwells in you.
Then make sure you read the Bible, learn, and practice.
To reserve a time with the Lord is very beneficial as well. You can do at the end of your day or any time.
"And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ." - Matthew 23:10
And very important: Do not give up or stop practicing.
If you stop practicing growth is stagnated and you do not learn.
"For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance..." - Matthew 13:12
Then, start practicing your gifts!
"Let all that you do be done with love." - 1 Corinthians 16:14
"Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." - 1 Corinthians 10:31
"If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them." - John 13:17
Blessings, blessings to you in Jesus' name!
