Nether give place to the devil. Ephesians 4:27
One six word sentence uttered by the Apostle Paul, but so important if we want to live a life pleasing to God. Don't give place to the devil. In the Bible, we read about how a woman kept a bed in her home for the prophet Elijah when he was travelling through. In the natural, she was giving place to the man of God. In the spiritual sense, we choose who we give place to as well. Jesus comes knocking on our heart's door, and we choose to give him place, or to turn him away. The devil also will drop by, and we have the same choice. Set him up a cot and welcome him in, or tell him to hit the road.
I think that one reason we often struggle with the flesh is that when Satan comes to call, we welcome him in. We entertain him. We roll out the red carpet for him, and listen to what he has to say, instead of taking his words captive immediately. Hath God said? We are all filthy sinners all of our days. Fornication is normal today. God understands that. Getting drunk every so often and having fun can be a good thing. God will forgive you if you take the mark of the beast. God won't send someone to hell because they are homosexual. They can't help who they love. God won't send good people to hell because they don't know Jesus. There are many paths to God. Don't believe any of this. Check everything by the Word of God. But the bigger thing is, if you refuse to give place to the devil by considering what he has to say, you are less apt to stumble. If you have given him place, get rid of that cot and nightstand, and tell him to get out and stay out. The Holy Spirit shouldn't have to share His temple with devils.
