Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
1Co 12:4-11
Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every (hekastos = each, every) man to profit withal.
For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every (hekastos = each, every) man severally as he will (before ordained).
1Co 12:31
Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the most excellent way.
1Co 14:1
Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy.
1Co 14:26
How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every (hekastos = each, every) one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.

The Lord has gifted each of us in different ways, and we are all to use those gifts to edify the body. Every gift is important. Every person is important. We are not to bury our gifts.

OK, then let us make a sincere lookup of our gifts. I believe I have:
Word of knowledge
Faith
Discerning of spirits
According to this list it makes sense.
Do your listing according to your faith or what you have already experienced.
I do not know if all believers can manifest all the gifts... But I believe it is possible for one believer to manifest all the gifts.
"But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift." - Ephesians 4:7

I think it's important that every born again, spirit-filled child of God learn and believe that he/she has been given spiritual gifts, that is really the main thing I wanted to bring forth with this. Not everyone understands that, and it is often not taught about or discussed in many places and that is one reason why gifts remain buried. I attended a Pentecostal church for a few years back when I was still a new believer, and the gifts of the Spirit were never talked about or taught...odd for a place that called itself Pentecostal. People need to exercise their gifts in order to grow in them, like exercising muscles, and learning even from their mistakes without feeling they are going to be "stoned" and cast out for making a mistake. Like young children in a family learn how to talk by interacting with their parents and siblings and giving voice to their thoughts....or as they learn to walk at first they may be wobbly and fall down a few times....and even in maturity it is possible to trip a time or two. Yes, there are many gifts, greater and lesser, but all are needed just the same, or else God's temple will be missing some bricks and the weather will get in or it will make other bricks around the gaps unstable.
The Spirit blows where it willeth, and sometimes He will sovereignly use a person in a way that is different from their usual spiritual gifts. It's a matter of us being available to the Lord to use anyhow and anytime He wills. And the vessel needs to be kept clean, and Christlikeness and maturity sought for, otherwise the gifts will still operate but can become tainted. The Lord doesn't take away our spiritual gifts....they are given without repentance....and actually this is one reason why false prophets/teachers are deceptive, because they do have genuine gifts.... they may be able to heal or prophesy for example, and often start out well before they begin to turn out of the way and veer off course. So spiritual gifts in themselves are no indication of a ministry or minister being kosher, whatsoever....they cannot be taken as a sign of God's approval.
One other thing I wanted to point out in the scripture where it says there are divers operations and administrations of the same gift, as that is something else I have not heard discussed or taught...looking at the gift of prophecy for example...some prophetic gifts have to do with doctrine, some have to do with words of encouragement or comfort, some have to do with foreseeing and prophesying of future events....there are divers ways that same gift can manifest. And feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on this, but up to now I believe that not all of the prophetic gifts belong to the leadership gift of prophecy (along with apostle, pastor, evangelist, teacher)...the leadership administration/operation of that gift seems to have more to do with doctrine and calling to repentance....leading the church in the right direction more so than giving prophecies to individuals. And same with other spiritual gifts, there are divers ways the same gift can operate and administrate (think that means minister) the Spirit of the Lord.

One need not be a pastor to have a prophetic gift, that's true. Gifts like prophesy, healing, etc are spread abroad through the church regardless of leadership. Bruce van Natta says it was a newly-converted Christian (she'd only been saved for 2 months) who prayed him back to life after his accident. No one is barred from being used by God. However, a prophetic gift won't elevate us to attack the authority of others. I can't go behind a parent's back and tell his/her child to disobey because I heard from God. I can't join a church with a nefarious plan to break it up because I think the pastor is wrong. If we think our prophetic gift is telling us to be a gossipy, rebellious, underhanded busybody, we've heard wrong.

I am completely not following your line of thought on this sister...sorry, is it my headache, or have you got the wrong end of the stick somehow...? I'm only mentioning the the gift of prophecy to try and demonstrate examples of divers operations/administrations...or did you think I was inferring anything about anybody? I'm confused by your reply.

Oh watchful, I'm sorry my post was confusing. It was not a criticism of you. Since you mentioned pastors/leaders, I just got to thinking about leadership in the church.

How spectacular and wonderful even to be able to speak about the gifts of the spirit without someone trying to bridle you. I was once in a church and an older retired preacher for a baptist church stood up and announced to the preacher he had something, a word from God to announce. this man was well respected so the floor was given... And he said, God has laid it on his heart that there is a young person in the church today that God has been dealing with and they were running. there was more about specific details i wont go into. after service me and a dear friend went to this mans house for fellowship. I mentioned the gifts and was interrupted by this man saying the gifts are not needed. I thought, spoken like a true baptist. He does not want the gifts to even be discussed but yet that day was given a word of knowledge, which is given a knowledge in form of word that by no way of knowing it, knows it. and it was to edify so it fits the scriptural outline to a T. I find it very distasteful to quench the spirit... not to say that I am a perfect christian that never scrapes my knees or gets bruised from falling down in my walk, but i do not intend to speak negatively to how the Holy Spirit operates thru us. Am I the only one who sees a similarity to how in the OT there was some who were close to God and were sold out to Him and believed His words, but there were many more who were riding the fence and had their own ideas... and how that is the same as today. many have their own interpretation on scripture.
For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. Romans 11:29

Watchful, thank you for your post.
I was thinking about all this when I went to bed last night, and then I saw this today.
The body has different functions, members. All are working for the same purpose, and all have their different styles on what they preach or talk about. We have those who encourage, and those who bless, and those who correct, those who witness the Word and bring in the new comers, and those who feed with them with milk. Those who heal, and who can counsel, those who can lead and those who expose the works of darkness, and show the lies of the world, ...also those who take some on to the solids, or talk to them already on the solids, and bring to attention the things that no-one else does, going into the deeper things under the layers, but all in all, it's so that every part of the body supplies all. All have their different functions, but all are in Christ, and all are loved.

For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. Romans 11:29 Amen Cletus, it is wonderful when we have that freedom and the Spirit is not quenched. And no you're not alone in seeing that there are many who deny that gifts are for the church today really as a way of explaining why they don't see the Lord moving among them....when all along He is waiting for them to receive the Holy Spirit and believe that He can and will move as He wills. Or there are those who believe that spiritual gifts are only for a few and not for all. Both these viewpoints quench the Spirit in believers, because the Lord generally only moves in cooperation with our own faith and will in welcoming Him to do so......most of the time. There are times when He will over-rule someone's unbelief regardless and move sovereignly though, like the example you gave of that Baptist....the Lord is so merciful.....and He is God after all…a God who can make a donkey talk and rocks to cry out when He wants to! Sad though, that in spite of the Lord demonstrating His power the man chose his doctrine over the Lord. But these gifts are spiritual weapons which are needed in order to participate with Christ in destroying the works of the enemy and building up the church. I know I'm ‘preaching to the choir’ here with these thing, but a church that is not learning to rely on the Holy Spirit is a very weak platoon in the army of God....an enemy that is spiritual can only be overcome with weapons that are spiritual.

All have their different functions, but all are in Christ, and all are loved.
Amen Sister...there is not one part of the Body who can say they have no need of the other parts. God has worked it this way in order to humble us, like marriage is useful in working for our good, and rubbing away our sharp edges to fit better together, and both parts are needed in a marriage otherwise you don't have a marriage. The Body of Christ is likewise being knit together in a way that all need each other, in the wisdom of God....to help us grow and mature in love and humility. Generally, the divers parts only learn to recognize and appreciate other parts of the Body as they grow in humility and understanding...then they can begin to prefer others over themselves. But in a war you need all hands on deck, not just pulpit ministers. Imagine trying to win a war with only the Generals engaged in combat and all the rest of the entire army just sitting, cowed into inaction because of believing they have nothing to contribute, just watching and admiring the Generals and nodding their heads. LOL! Yes, we've really been THAT silly in the church! Jesus has a whole Body, and all parts are needed to do their part in the battle, from the greatest to the least. Even Generals need other members of the army to watch their backs....but that won't happen if the Generals are unapproachable, untouchable, or unteachable because of esteeming others lower than themselves.....many deceptions sneak in because other parts are not standing at their posts or dismiss and second guess their unctions....to the detriment of the Generals, the army as a whole, and the outcome of the battle. And everyone just needs to humbly do their part without giving it a thought, offer our offerings with the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing. What do we have that we didn't receive from the Lord..... because we have nothing of our own. This is still in context of spiritual gifts: 1Co 12:12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. We can see here why the church is falling away because this principle was not followed...and so the church was not edified (built up): 1Co 14:26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.
