Yeshua was sitting on the South steps near the Wall of Judgement. He was teaching.
A crowd of Priests and Scribes was dragging a woman along. Their aim was to trap the Lord. The woman had been caught in adultery. Normally, she would have already been stoned but the Priests wanted to make a spectacle of Yeshua. They again waved the Law in Yeshua's face. (His Law)
So they told Him the story thinking they had GOT Him. He stoops and begins to write - now this place is mostly solid hewn stone. But he began to form letters in the dust that covered the stones. An EERIE silence descends as the Priest begin to see what He is forming. The discourse continues a little while and He stoops again. This time writing on a SECOND stone.
By His Finger the Ten Commandments for Moses were written in stone.
The Priests and Scribes study and argue about the Tanach every day. They see what He is doing. They know they came to the Wall of Judgement for a reason, but not that it would judge THEM. The SECOND stone makes the hair on their heads stand up. Originally He wrote on two tablets, the second was needed as Moses in fury broke the first.
This would have been unmistakable to the priests - they KNEW what he was doing, and when He said that the one without sin should cast the first stone at the woman - well, I imagine they just had to get the heck outta there!! They were AFRAID.
He told the woman that as there were no accusers and He did not condemn her then she should leave and sin no more.
I imagine that the priests gave this lady a really wide berth from then on. I think great fear had fallen on them!

While it never states what he wrote in the sand, that is an interesting possibility. They figured they had Jesus either way he went. If he said to let her go, they would say he was standing in opposition to the law of Moses and if he said to stone her, it would give them reason to bring him up on charges to the Roman government. Solomon had wisdom, but nothing compared to our Lord.

The beginnings of the commandments (only later they called them the Decalogue)
I {am} "Yhwh He is" your "Elohiym Powers" :להיך להיךאאנכי יהוהנכי יהוהאא "I am the LORD your God."
It would be interesting to wonder how many letters (right to left) the Lord might have outlined to get the message across. The fact that he wrote TWICE is to me very telling and would have been quite hair-raising if correct.
If you recall, in Gethsemane He said, I AM HE. And they fell down!!

I recently did a little research on when Jesus said I Am he... the he was added in to make it easier to read for us... He said I AM.
I have always believed when Jesus stooped down to write in the sand He wrote their sin or the law forbidding their sin, they were convicted and left. Cant prove that... but i think its common sense.

Two of the Bible's greatest mysteries:
1) What did Jesus write on the ground?
2) Why was Jairus's daughter the same age as the sick woman's illness?

“My little daughter is at the point of death; please come and lay Your hands on her, so that she will get well and live.” And He went off with him; and a large crowd was following Him and pressing in on Him. A woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years, and had endured much at the hands of many physicians, and had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but rather had grown worse— after hearing about Jesus, she came up in the crowd behind Him and touched His cloak... Taking the child by the hand, He said to her, “Talitha kum!” (which translated means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”). Immediately the girl got up and began to walk, for she was twelve years old.
This is in Mark 5. The woman interrupted Jesus on His way to Jairus's house.

Two of the Bible's greatest mysteries: 1) What did Jesus write on the ground? 2) Why was Jairus's daughter the same age as the sick woman's illness? The written scriptures we have are littered with allusions. The Lord Smiles as we 'get the point'. A point the workers of iniquity cannot possibly understand. God has a wonderful sense of humor and proportion. He is the VERY BEST at everything. He can out-fox the foxes and outwit the cleverest, but still He leaves little clues for His children to follow that enrich their understanding of HIM. If you read the ancient scrolls in Aramaic (many were originally Aramaic) there are many inferences and poetic plays on words that Yeshua uttered. These are largely lost in the Greek translations that are somewhat cold and medicinal in nature. Yeshua truly is the Son of David. He is adept at poetic hyperbole and humorous allusion. Like playing hide and go seek with daddy... He is Papa Perfection.

It looks like a coincidence, but lets suppose it is not. I don't think the significance would be in the number twelve. You remember that story where the disciples asked Jesus who sinned to caused a man's blindness, and Jesus said nobody, but it was for the glory of God? Perhaps that is what we are seeing here. The events leading up to these two miracles were set in motion twelve years prior with the woman's illness and the little girl's birth.

May the Lord bless all. Do you mean that there are many mysteries in the Bible to be discovered? If so, I completely agree. There are many things hidden in the pages of God's Word, and it seems that no matter how many times I read it, I always learn something new.
God bless you and welcome to Narrow Way Forums.
