I would like to know what this verse is supposed to mean....
Matthew 24:34
34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

I agree with 2fw8212a. It means the generation that is alive when those things start to take place will be the final generation. Many believe this means those who were part of the generation that was born since Israel became a nation again in 1948. A generation based on a normal lifespan would likely be 70 to 80 years.

Look at our generation today . This implies look at this world , its peoples at this time . The world and all that is in it shall fade away , but the WORD of our LORD shall endure forever . Put those hands up everyone . Letters is right . Whom the heavens must retain , till all things written be FULLFILLED . Put those hands up sister Dezi . And let all rejoice in the LORD .

Because we have had many generations, the generation that is being referred to is the parent generation (that is still in progress).

I do not think it means the world... but the church.
Mat 24:33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Mat 24:34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
when we look at what all He Is talking about and also in verse 33... when ye shall see all these things.... not some, but all of these things. today we see those things Jesus is talking about, some have to still happen, and if/when they do we.... know that it is near, even at the doors.
the reason i do not think its the world is because many in the world now do see these things coming to pass but they do not realize it... even when you quote these scriptures to them or they read it for themselves. the world dont know, and is blind to the truth here. in reality, even some in the church dont see it.
He could be talking about the church age, he could be talking about a then future generation. but we need to be careful with this verse because a lot of those who believe in preterisim like to use this verse to "prove" all the prophecy in the bible has been fulfilled and Jesus is already come. which is false and the end of that teaching brings about the fruit of denying Jesus, and His words. so be careful who you listen to on this verse.

Mat 24:33-34 (33) So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. (34) Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
Till all what things are fulfilled?
Mat 24:8-30 (8) All these are the beginning of sorrows. (9) Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. (10) And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. (11) And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. (12) And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. (13) But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. (14) And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. (15) When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) (16) Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: (17) Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: (18) Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. (19) And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! (20) But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: (21) For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. (22) And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. (23) Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. (24) For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. (25) Behold, I have told you before. (26) Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. (27) For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. (28) For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together. (29) Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: (30) And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
We can even see the second coming in this.
In verse 14 it says this:"(14) And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come."
In the tribulation period, the gospel shall be preached in all the world, even unto the time of Christ's second coming, and then the end shall come, but what end?
The earth will still be here, but it will be the end of Gentile rule, it will be the end of unbelieving men being the center of rule, for Christ shall now be here.
So now let us get back to our scriptures:
Mat 24:33-34 (33) So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. (34) Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
When Christ comes, at the beginning of his reign, all will accept him, all will get saved, although later on in the millennial reign some will rebel, but at the beginning of the millennial reign, all will accept him.
So the generation of an unbelieving ruled world will pass, and now Christ will rule, and we will be under his rulership, all at the beginning will accept him, Satan no longer being the ruler of this world.

One thing we have to remember is that we are speculating to some degree. We are making an educated guess that this verse means the generation that saw Israel become a nation again. It makes sense, and I tend to think that is probably true, but we can't be completely certain.

Here is part of Luke's version of this:
Luk 21:24-28 (24) And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. (25) And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; (26) Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. (27) And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. (28) And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
When it says your redemption draweth nigh, this is speaking to them, especially Israel, of when they see the tribulation events starting to come to pass, which is a sign of Christ soon coming to earth, which is when Israel shall finally receive Christ as a nation, or shall be redeemed as a nation.
Luk 21:29-32 (29) And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees; (30) When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand. (31) So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand. (32) Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.
It is talking about a generation not passing away t'ill all be fulfilled, which generation? The generation that sees the tribulation events come to pass, including the second coming, but it is not referring to that generation passing away in the sense of dying, because we know that people will survive the tribulation period, so I believe it is more in conjunction with the times of the Gentiles being fulfilled, were they are no longer treading Jerusalem under their feet, thus an unbelieving generation, and the rule of the Gentiles passing away, and the world receiving Christ, were Christ will be ruling.
Observe what it says in the parable of the fig tree, notice it never mentions Israel anywhere in association to this, but rather it associates the events being seen to come to pass in association with this, and it mentions when you see these things, and not when you see Israel becoming back a nation, for that is not in the list of the things being seen, but rather when you see, the things that happen in the tribulation period, come to pass, know that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand, that is know that Christ is coming soon to establish his kingdom on earth, and that is when Israel as a nation finally receives Christ, were Israel as a nation will be redeemed.

Now I do believe that when Israel became a nation in 1948, that that is prophetic, and coincides with other verses, but I personally do not associate it to the verse found in Matthew 24.
And yes I am aware of how the fig tree is used in the bible, but I believe in taking everything in it's own context, and leave it say what it says, without adding anything to it.

What you are saying Giller is a legitimate way to interpret that passage. One thing we need to be careful about is date setting. That leads to doubt and outright unbelief, and people questioning about where is the sign of His coming? My personal opinion is that we are in the time known as the beginning of sorrows. I have no idea how long it will continue before the great tribulation starts.

I’ve never bought the theory that Israel being a nation was the start of the end times. Jesus said to watch for a fig tree shooting forth, not a fig tree being planted. By no means is modern Israel shooting forth spiritual greenery yet. When the fig tree and all others around it blossom in unison, that’s when the harvest is ready. He said nothing about a generation perishing, dying, growing old, or any such verbiage. And He didn’t say THAT generation which first saw the fig tree. He said THIS generation.
As I see it, this refers to a generation of children of God. A generation of Gentiles redeemed and born again in this covenant. All lambs born again, from Peter and John, to the last human redeemed by the blood, will share the same inheritance. One generation.
Anyway, that’s my two cents.

I know that the most popular interpretation is that 1948 started the end time clock. So if I understand you right, you aren't seeing a "generation" in terms of the normal lifetime of a person. You are seeing it as the time of the gentiles? I have never heard anyone suggest that, so I am trying to make sure I am understanding you.

There is a difference between the times of the gentiles mentioned in Luke and the fullness of the gentiles mentioned in Romans.
